runDisney didn’t just tease a surprise this time, it delivered one that can blow up travel plans. We react in real time to the Springtime Surprise weekend shifting dates, what that means for resort reservations and DVC juggling, and why having a good travel advisor can save you hours when Disney changes the calendar.

Training talk gets practical fast: running in heat without turning it into a competition, how much to slow down as temps rise, and whether “real feel” should drive your pacing more than the number on the thermometer. We compare notes on when we start carrying hydration, electrolytes, and fuel, plus what pre-hydration looks like before a long run so race weekend doesn’t become a dehydration lesson.

Then we pivot to something purely fun: a Disney parks and resorts “last meal” draft inspired by the Last Meal podcast. Expect strong opinions and deep cuts, from Sanaa bread service and Morimoto favorites to Tonga Toast, Zebra Domes, Dole Whips, and the Beaches and Cream Kitchen Sink. We wrap with a community-packed race report and a Race Report Spotlight with John.

The Rise and Run Podcast is sponsored by our wonderful friends over at Magic Bound Travel and day of recording. If there was any greater example as to why you should book your vacation with a travel advisor, especially those who are expertly trained in Walt Disney World and Run Disney, uh, today would be that day. Obviously, we are going to talk about all the springtime surprise news and changes. And if you were like me and read that news and was like, oh crap, I got a lot of finagling I need to do now. Instead of you having to do that, have your travel advisor do that. And our friends over at Magic Bound can take care of all of that for you. So again, if you're looking for any race cation down at Walt Disney World for this season, they are the go-to. Take care of all of those accommodations for you. Be sure to visit our friends at Magic Bound at MagicBoundtravel.com.

SPEAKER_07

Disney's putting the surprise in springtime surprise. We will we'll get back to that in a little bit. Hey Jack, what's going on with YouTube?

SPEAKER_09

Yes. Um, we are continuing our Disney Resort Run series. So um the newest episode that just dropped was for the Disney's Coronado Springs resort. Uh that one dropped on Sunday. Um, so yeah, right now we have three hotel areas. If you like to do some virtual running on a treadmill, if the weather is bad, or we're just curious to see what the resorts are like and what running is like at each resort. Go ahead and check it out on uh the Rise Around Podcast channel on YouTube.

SPEAKER_07

Thank you, Jack. Let's take a look at training because we're about to go live again next week. If you're following the Galloway schedule printed in the Run Disney training section, the 23rd of June, which is a Tuesday, is when training begins for wine and dine. We are 18 weeks out from the wine and dine race as of this episode. So training kicks off this next week.

Wine And Dine Training Countdown

SPEAKER_07

I forgot to well I should have looked and seen and seen what it was. I'm going to guess it I it's 30, it's 30 minutes Tuesday, 30 minutes Thursday, and three miles on Saturday, I'll bet you. But uh but we're getting back, guys. It it's just when we feel like it's been so long, all of a sudden we're back to training again. We've been keep keeping track of uh other things. Uh we're now just a little under three weeks away from registering for springtime surprise. The registration date didn't change, did it? It did not just the race dates, yeah. So we're still about three weeks away, 19 days away. Registration day is the 7th of July. So that'll be coming up, and it's going to be a lot smoother than it was for Princess, I promise. I have no reason to say that. I'm just being optimistic. Uh, I've been keeping track of other events that the Rise and Run family enjoys. Uh, a lot of you, gang, you're just uh a little over six weeks away from Loopy Looper. That's coming up fast.

SPEAKER_14

And actually, speaking of that, Bob, uh, thank you for bringing up Loopy Looper. Uh, we might be, I'm waiting on confirmation of this, but we might be in the need of a runner to swap into one of our relay teams. Someone might have to be dropping out. So if you are interested and you are local or you want to travel to this, uh please send me an email, Greg at RyzenRunpodcast.com, and we'll see if we can um slide you into the uh this team that is in need of uh potential fourth member.

SPEAKER_07

Sounds good, Greg. Now, 85 days till bird in hand. That's coming up on us fast, also. Get out if you're going to bird in hand, friends, get out there and do your hill training. We're gonna talk training updates in just a little bit, but I've started some hill training. That's right, I'm hill training in Florida, I'll explain in a moment. Uh Space Coast, another biggie that attracts a lot of Ryzen Runners, 158 days away. Marathon's full, they're running a waiting list. And the last one I want to talk about, and after this week, I'll let this go for a little while. Uh, Flying Pigs almost a year away, but we have discount codes. And I mentioned this last week. And I don't know, should I even bother to read our discount code because it's so long, or should I just give everybody Allen 10? That's as easy as it gets. A-L-A-N-1-0. If you if you insist on using ours as FPM for flying pig marathon, 27 for the year of the race, rise run, all that's one word. But Alan 10's a whole lot easier. And Alan's a good guy. And it'd be great if you had a lot of folks using his discount code. Hey friends, what kind of training updates do we have for this week?

SPEAKER_10

I've been out there uh almost I'm trying to get out there at least one day during the week and one long run on the weekend, and I've been pretty consistent so far, so I'm I'm happy about that. So I think that's my biggest uh goal for this upcoming season.

SPEAKER_07

To stay consistent, stay consistent, yeah. Just get out there sometimes. Makes the race weekends a lot nicer if you stay consistent in that training. I know uh I'm I mean, I I mentioned it before, I've had a little trouble, but I think I'm coming through that, and I want to talk a little bit about you

Running In Heat Without Ego

SPEAKER_07

you will hear me say this if you've been with the podcast, you've heard it before. You hear it again. I always tell people hot, you define what hot is. If it's hot to you where you live, it's hot. I hate people playing these little games of oh, I'm I'm running and the temperature is this, and then somebody goes here, you think that's hot, you should. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. If you go out and it's hot, you need to make some accommodations for that heat. Uh I went out this morning in temperatures that are pretty daggum warm, but I'm a little better acclimated to all that. Didn't have a lot of trouble, but still I slowed down. I slowed down a little bit from what I would usually do. I don't know when you all get out to run in hot weather. Uh I usually get out around or just a tiny bit after sunrise. That's the coolest part of the day. Now it warms up quickly. Depends on where you are. If you're in a if you're in a humid area like many of us around the Gulf states are, the temperatures rise a little more slowly. If you're in a dry area like the the uh United States Southwest, then the temperatures rise and fall more quickly. So it'll get hot faster and it'll cool down a lot faster. Uh around here it it'll get hot and it'll warm up, it but it never cools down. Especially, especially as close as I am to the Gulf. The Gulf temperatures are in the mid-80s already, they'll get up to 90 and it just stays warm. Conversations we've had with Jeff in the past, we've talked about he's got his rule of thumb that says slow down 30 seconds for every five degrees over 60 degrees that you're running in. A good rule of thumb. Do I follow it totally? No. But I do pay attention to it, I absolutely do. And I remember remember a conversation I had with him, and I said, Jeff, with the temperatures around here and the paces that I run, if I did that, I would have to run backwards sometimes. And he he didn't normally get cross with me, but he he didn't like that. And he said to me, Bob, you know who has the most trouble with heat injuries is people who live in hot areas and are used to running in hot weather because they get acclimated and they feel they can push just a little harder when they get in trouble.

SPEAKER_14

You know, to that point, Bob, the the one thing that I have been contemplating this training uh season the last couple of weeks, and you know, and this is a question I would love to ask Jeff, but I mean, you know, now I'll just go and ask it to uh the coach Twiggs, but the part that I wonder in terms of that five five degree rule is is that based on the actual temperature or the real feel? Because like the you know, the thing that I'm I'm surprised about a lot is usually right before I get out of the car, I will I will open my Acuweather app and I will check it. And then you know it's interesting, like you know, today, for example, it was saying that the temperature was 64 degrees. So I was like, okay, if I'm gonna you know quasi round up, then sure, I should slow down by 30 seconds. But at the same time, though, the real feel was saying that it was it was 72. So I'm like, okay, should I slow down by a minute now or should I slow down by 30? So I think you know, if we can get you know Chris on the podcast in a couple of weeks, you know, I think that's definitely something we can ask him about.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, you you check it with Chris. I believe it's the feel temperature the feel cycle, because that's the that's what's taking the effect on your body. But yeah, check it with Chris. Alicia, do you know? Of course, it's not your rule.

SPEAKER_00

Right. I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_07

But I'm sure you advise, I'm sure you advise people to slow down and heat.

SPEAKER_00

I do. I've actually advised a couple people this week we were talking about, and um, I've said similar to you, Bob, like at some point we're we're going to be going backwards or or even crawling, um, which I know that we had mentioned before that um Jeff didn't like that statement, but it is important to slow down um and be mindful of the the heat that's out there because we don't want anybody getting um heat stroke or any

Hydration And Fueling On Runs

SPEAKER_00

heat exhaustion.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, leads me to a question that I've been kind of curious about. When do you, at what distance or how long do you run before you take something with you, whether it's liquid or nutrition onto your training schedule? How far do you have to be going? Or do you take something every time you go out the front door?

SPEAKER_10

I am a bad example sometimes, and I'm getting better. I I always if I go out if I leave from my house, I plan my route usually with some type of okay, there's a convenience store over here, there's something over here. I can kind of get liquid or any liquid anytime I want to. I do bring some like gels or stuff in my pocket when I run, but usually that's what I do. But if I do go to the park, I'll just have a water bottle for after the run. I mean, if it's half an hour, 45 minutes, I don't carry anything usually with me. But anything longer than that, I'm I'm looking at, you know, possibly getting a uh I have a vest, I'm using it more.

SPEAKER_00

So for me, it kind of depends on a couple of things. So it depends on the type of workout. So if I'm doing a speed workout, I'm at a local park, um, and I do bring hydration with me um for any of those runs, no matter the distance, because I'm going faster. Um, but if it's just a general run, I don't bring hydration until actually hydration and fuel, I'll start around five or six miles for myself. All right. Um, and then if it's getting longer, then I'll bring more than just like a handheld water bottle. It will become my hydration best. Um, and having more things.

SPEAKER_14

Typically for me on those, you know, Tuesday, Thursday, or Monday, Wednesday weekday runs of 30 to 45 minutes, I usually don't take anything with me, and I'm usually okay on that front. In terms of the long run, I I think it's really dependent on uh the type of run. I would say this this past weekend, I did 10 miles and but I also split up my 10 miles and with just like a quick like 15-minute break in between. And I was able to use my handheld water bottle for that. But I will say though, by what was it, mile four and a half of my second run, because uh the way I split mine up is I did four and then I did six, so four and a half miles into the six mile run, I was out of liquid. Thankfully, no negative impacts from that. But I think to me, if I'm probably gonna be going any distance greater than a 10k on a weekend long run, especially in the summertime, I think that's when it turns in the vest season. Okay.

SPEAKER_09

Like most of you guys, if it's my weekday run, I don't usually carry anything with me. Now, when it's my long run, usually I will carry something like water or um hydration, sorry, water fueling. Um, so my salt stick fast chews or gu chew if it's like usually six miles or longer. In the summer, maybe five miles, but usually at least six.

SPEAKER_10

Here's a question. Do you guys like pre-hydrate on long runs? Like like like a half an hour before either have some water, even have like a thing of noon or whatever kind of uh hydration fluid you use?

SPEAKER_09

Oh yeah. I mean, I I know I mentioned it a while ago. You can actually get these Pedialite, electrolyte ice pops from Amazon, and they give you like four boxes. And what I'll do, especially in the summer, I'll just have one of those ice pops that and then um head on out right after I'm done with it. It's a nice refreshing way to start a um a hot run.

SPEAKER_00

I don't be for um a run unless it's like 10 plus miles. Then I'll actually do electrolytes the day before, make sure that I'm hydrating ahead of time. But I always, if I have hydration with me, I always carry electrolytes. So that's why I do that.

SPEAKER_07

Smart. Do I prehydrate? No, John, because that just gives the temperature time to get hotter. So uh I don't usually do that, although it's it's not a bad idea. And I kind of fall in line with what I've heard everybody here saying. And my guideline is more or less if I'm gonna be an hour or less, I typically don't take anything with me. An hour or more, I do have a vest. I just now that's personal preference. I don't like handheld water bottles. I have used them. I just I just prefer to have the vest. If I take a vest, especially on a long run, I have two bottles I will fill one with an electrolyte drink and one with water. Uh I also have a route, a six-mile loop, that has two water stops on it, but it because it's because the way it is, I passed those water stops four times in the six miles, the water fountains. So that's not a bad thing either. So okay, cool. I was I was just kind of wondering what you guys did. I don't say and in terms of uh fuel slash nutrition, um, yeah, don't do what I do. Um I I probably should do better there. I'm not a goose fan. I'm just not really no, I don't like them, and I've tried them. Uh I I can use it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah. Oh.

SPEAKER_07

Not a fan. I can use the Morton Gels, but two's about my limit on those. You know, the big thing for me is the run gum, the caffeinated gum. Uh, either from run gum or from speedworks. And uh, you know, we've got a discount code on that too. I think it's Alan Speedworks. No, that's not right. We've got we've got one. It's it's mine. I should know what it is. Yeah, it's Bob R20 for Run Gum and Speedworks. Bob R2020. All one word. I think it still works. I haven't heard from that company for a while in in terms of their ambassadorships, but I think that's still active. And I know we have some friends who do use uh the run gum. I like the I like the Speedworks gum better. I just find it it tastes better.

SPEAKER_02

Caution runners, change of topic ahead.

Adapting Training When Life Hits

SPEAKER_07

I know what I want to do. I want to, since you know, since I started out by asking when you started taking stuff, and we started talking about hot weather accumulation uh acclimation, I wanted to ask, what would Alicia do?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Bob. So this fits perfectly into my question for you guys for what would Alicia do this week. But um first I want to give kind of a backstory of why I came up with this question. So in the last couple weeks, because of new work schedule and a lot of stuff that's happening in life, I've had to adapt a lot with my training. And so today on my run, um, before I went out, it was raining. And I took yogi out and I looked outside and I went, it's raining. I really don't want to go on the treadmill. And I sat down and I went, I'm not going for a run then. I'm not doing either thing. I'm not going out on the run out in the rain and I'm not gonna go on the treadmill. And then I sat for a few minutes and I went, okay, let's weigh out the pros and cons. Which one would you rather? Do. So I decided to go out on the rain, which I know I've talked before on what would Alicia do about running in the rain, but um it really reminded me of adaptation um for weather um and injuries and moving things around. So my question to you guys is what was a time that you had to adapt your training um that might help our listeners know that it's okay if things don't go perfectly smooth how they had planned?

SPEAKER_07

Well, first of all, I'd go in the rain. Rain's rain's especially around here. If we get rain, it's a blessing. Not lightning.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Not lightning.

SPEAKER_00

I should have mentioned it was 51 degrees. Oh, that sucks. No.

SPEAKER_07

No. No. No, that's awful. Um treadmill treadmill time there. Right. But uh oh heck yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Because because if it's cold where you are, it's cold too. 51 degrees are raining. I would freeze.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So it's probably windy too.

SPEAKER_00

It was.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, no, thank you. You can you can have it. I would hit the treadmill on that one. Yeah, lightning's one of those things that uh you can only be wrong once. So don't be wrong ever. All right. If if it's lightning, take shelter, get the heck out of there as soon as you can. Uh a time to adapt for weather. Well, we've I've talked about adapting for weather a little bit, but the biggest thing I'd adapt for over a period of a it was literally a period of about two years, that I was not able to run from one injury or another. And that really took some adapting on my part and some getting used to. And what I what I did is I learned to walk pretty fast. And I dedicated myself to doing that. And I was thinking about it. We've got the July 4th Pier run coming up in St. Petersburg. It's it's the fifth year for this event, it'll be my fifth year going to it. Great fun event. John Pelkey and Jody Chase are there as the race announcers, a lot of Ryzen Runners. Well, a handful of Ryzen Runners from the St. Petersburg, Tampa area join us there. I believe that was the first race event where I was not able to run. And mentally it was challenging. Because I you know, I was used to doing a distance like that in uh uh 35 minutes, something like that, and now I'm walking. That was tough. But I made the best of it, and I kinda I kinda had this is mean. This is really mean. But I had learned to walk kind of fast, and I would come upon people that were running, and I would walk past them, and I could tell it really made them mad. But but I'm just that kind of mean guy. So I did it. So that's something that I had to learn to do is to accept that I wasn't as fast as I used to be, and I wasn't going to be as fast. And I've never recovered the speeds I used to have, but I'm happy with that now. I don't have to walk anymore, I can run walk, but uh that's how I adapted to that.

SPEAKER_14

Alicia, hearing this question, what the memory that it takes me to is a training run that I had in, I think it was in preparation for Marathon Weekend 25. But it was my last training run right before Wine Dine. And I think I had like 23 miles on the schedule. And where I had to adapt was I was probably, and I remember talking about this on the podcast. It was probably one of the worst training runs I ever had in my life because for some reason I had this built this notion built up in my head that instead of worrying about my pace and my journey and my goals, all I kept focusing on was were other people's goals, and then comparing myself to those people, especially you know, people who were are similar paced to me and and such like that. And where the the the lesson came in in terms of adapting, that you know, hopefully I you know will help the listening audience if this ever happens to them, is that is the time where if you know, again, using a Jeff term, if the monkey brain within you is so bad at that point, reach out for help. And obviously, the first phone call is and if you have one, is your coach. I remember at one point during that run, I think I was like 17 or 18 miles in. I found a bench in some shade, and I called Coach Twiggs, and I just started blubbering to him, and we talked for 10 minutes, and once I was calmed down, and we, you know, I was able to, you know, give rational thoughts. You know, he gave, you know, he gave me the game plan, and that was okay, you're gonna walk to your car, and then he's like, I need you to get some caffeine in you, and I need you to get some salt in your system to not only help your body, but help your mind. So like I drove to the nearest McDonald's and I got God's greatest gift to running, and that is a McDonald's French fries and a crisp uh McDonald's Diet Coke, and then I really helped turn things around. I came home and then I walked out the rest. So, you know, really, if you're ever really stuck in those moments and you need to adapt in the middle of the run as opposed to trying to come up with a plan before uh you know, before you you know you head on out, uh make that call to your coach, make that text message to your coach, and you know what? And if you don't have a coach, which is totally okay, then find someone in your running Ohana that you trust and knows you know your goals, your aspirations, your training journey, and hopefully they can give you the best advice possible and be your pseudo-coach in that moment.

SPEAKER_07

I remember that, Greg. I mean, that was kind of a turning point for you, as I would go. Absolutely, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I do remember that as well.

SPEAKER_09

So I'm gonna kind of go back to my Daytona 100 um for this one because it was a race that did not go how I imagined it would. I finished.

SPEAKER_14

Did it go wrong when you had the P behind the brick wall? Was that the turning point check?

SPEAKER_09

Oh gosh, no. That was that was a solution. Yeah, the the downpour, the wind, just the misery of it all. And I've always kind of I over the years, I've gotten so good about my mentality of how I think when I run and how I push past a wall. And for whatever reason, that race was just the race that was gonna give me nope, it's not gonna work out this way. So plan A is not gonna work, plan B is not gonna work, plan C is not gonna work. I think we're at letter G right now. And um so I I remember this, and I know Adam listens to this, and he's gonna he's gonna not know this is how I kind of process things sometimes. Sometimes I need to say that I want to quit out loud for me to realize how insanely stupid it is. And I believe it was like you just need to hear it out loud because sometimes when you think it in your head, it's just gonna keep festering. But if you say it out loud to yourself, it's a whole different feeling. And I encourage anybody and everybody to do it. But it was at mile 70. I got to my next rest stop. Um, Adam was there, Kay was there. I was sitting at the back of the van, just sitting there, just thinking how freaking miserable I am. And I was just like, I am already 70 miles in. Gosh, I really don't want to do this. But in my in my head, I was like, Oh, you're gonna do it. So I literally said out loud, Adam, I want to quit. And he's like, No, we don't. Annie, like, you're going. Here you go. Here's what you need. There you go, go.

SPEAKER_07

I can picture that.

SPEAKER_09

Sometimes I need to just say it out loud and say it to somebody who I know who's gonna support me to keep going because there's no reason for me to have stopped. Absolutely none, other than I was tired, I was exhausted, the wind sucked, the rain sucked, the mind was not in a great place. And then after that moment, I was like, Yeah, that did sound stupid, huh?

SPEAKER_00

I remember me of one of the marathons, Jack. I texted my mom and I was like, I think I think I'm gonna pull myself. And she's like, Well, if that's what what do you need to do? And I was like, What are you talking about? Exactly.

SPEAKER_07

Was that your first Disney marathon? Oh, it wasn't.

SPEAKER_00

No, it was only a couple of years ago. Yeah, um, I was just frustrated with my experience of my how my body was adapting. Um, it wasn't that I didn't think I could finish, I just was tired, uh, which happens in a marathon, but I get what you're saying, Jack. You just need need to say it out loud. Obviously, that was not out loud, it was via text, but yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah. It's just it's that reverse. I I guess you could call it reverse psychology of it. You want to quit, but you need to hear that you you're gonna quit, and then you see how ludicrous it is. And I I I tell you, people, it works. Yes. Um, but yeah.

SPEAKER_10

When I was injured and I was coming back, I could not really run, but I could still walk or ride a bike. So I would say, okay, I'm doing my pace is X. If I did a pace of you know, X, I could say a 12 minute pace, and that's gonna be X min X minute, X amount of time, uh, what do you call half marathon?

SPEAKER_07

I would walk we're getting into algebra here, John.

SPEAKER_10

I'm getting I I would walk and I would say, okay, if I'm on pace to do a three-hour half marathon, I would just walk for three hours just to get the time on my feet for for the for the event. Or if I was gonna ride a bike, a stationary bike, I would ride the bike for that amount of time just to kind of keep the legs moving and body and like the exercise going. And I think that does help a little bit.

SPEAKER_00

All right. So to our listeners, training is obviously gonna ebb and flow as we go. Um, and hopefully these gave you some tools to help um with any adaptation that you may need.

SPEAKER_02

And that's what Alicia would do. Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.

Springtime Surprise Dates Suddenly Shift

SPEAKER_07

So, as we mentioned at the beginning, Springtime Surprise is living up to its name. Now, we got some themes, but we also got a big surprise. And the big surprise is apparently the date that was put out early has changed. And I need to turn and ask my friends exactly what happened since my internet's been down almost all day.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, Bob. So originally springtime surprise was supposed to occur April 15th through the 18th, but in today's announcement, they said by the by the way, new date, and the new day of the weekend is now one week earlier, so expo will be on uh Thursday, April 8th, and then the race is the 9th through the 11th.

SPEAKER_07

Okay. Well, it'll be much cooler than a week or whatever on the show, no doubt. Like by two degrees. Yeah. Well, I would take it. You never know. I mean, it could be it could be hotter, you never know. However, uh, again, Greg, as you pointed out, that's the beauty of using a travel agent to help make your plans. Because, gosh, I don't know how many people this affects. I don't know how many people plan that far out where they do have the room, but I know some of you do. And now you gotta change it. And as we have mentioned here, amongst ourselves several times, we had a cruise scheduled for the last springtime surprise that occurred after the race. And if this had happened then, that would have been a catastrophe.

SPEAKER_14

No Bob, I I'm right there with you. I I would have been panicky beyond belief if that would have happened. And I mean, what we we haven't, you know, we haven't solidified anything yet with Magic Bound about uh you know cruise 2.0. But if if 2.0 does happen, my god, am I gonna be sweating this out now for like the next 18 months of being like, oh, run Disney, please don't pull these shenanigans again.

SPEAKER_07

Here's what here's what I well I have options because I can drive back and forth, but if I had to fly and all that, here's what I would have done. I would have I would have blown off the run. That's what I would have done. Yeah, we haven't registered for the run yet, and I would have just said, I'm already well into my planning for the cruise. I'm just gonna go. In fact, what I probably would have done is made a reservation over there at Canaveral and gone the night before. But let's not get too involved into that because we didn't have to do it. Correct. Yep. But that's what if if this situation had occurred, I believe that's what I would have done. I would have gone with the cruise and well again, I can do things like ride over to the uh to the meet and greet and ride back the same day. But not very few of us can do that. So I would have done something different. But again, I'm spending too much time talking about something that didn't happen. Uh let's talk about something that did happen. The date changed, but we also got themes for this race weekend.

SPEAKER_10

And they were great. We got the Mandalore, the Battle of Mandalore 5K with Bo Katana and Moth Gideon, the Phantom Menace 10K with Qui-Gon and Dark Wall.

SPEAKER_15

John, John, John, John, John. Where did John see these? Yeah. What what what alternate universe are you in?

SPEAKER_10

Where did you see that? It's the 50th anniversary of Star Wars. Aren't they doing a Star Wars theme? Not exactly. Oh, come on. Come on. This isn't right.

SPEAKER_07

Well, go ahead. Well, hey, listen. Hey, I'm kind of curious what your others were. Did you did you have all four racist figures?

SPEAKER_10

The Ten Milers, the Master and Apprentice Ten Miler with Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. I love it. And it's the Conquer the Galaxy challenge where you have uh Leah's little message to Obi-Wan where it lights up with the little blue thing, and you spin the back and the death tar explodes and lights up. Come on, come on, guys. Who's doing this race with me?

SPEAKER_01

John, I love you like so specific.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, that's awesome.

SPEAKER_14

I mean, you can send those residuals to John at Rise and Run Podcast.com.

SPEAKER_07

That's really good. I I really like all your thinking and your planning, and it's too bad that that's not what happened.

SPEAKER_10

Wow. What happened then? Is there anything else then?

SPEAKER_00

They're fine.

SPEAKER_07

Hey, that's my line.

SPEAKER_00

That's my line.

SPEAKER_07

That's my line. They they did come out. Somebody help us out here and describe them.

SPEAKER_14

So for the 5K, you got Wrecked Ralph and Venelope. 10K is Robin Hood. 10 Miler is Alice in Wonderland. And then the challenge is Steamboat Willie. I like mine better.

SPEAKER_09

I do like yours better, John. Everybody does, but it's funny, John, because I was the first thing I did when I saw the themes got announced. I went and read the comments to see if anybody else was thinking the same thing. One of the first comments was literally said, it's the 50th anniversary and no Star Wars theme. I was like, yes. That's crazy. But um, to be fair though, most of the people in the comments are really, really excited about it. So I may not be the hugest fan, and I'm devastated like John. Not maybe not as devastated as John is because John is like a massive Star Wars fan, and he has uh Grogu attached to his um. Yeah, I love that. Um I I wish I could have ran a Star Wars weekend race, and it's just so disappointing that they just didn't do it. But so many people out there are really excited about the um themes, and I don't want to take that, you know.

SPEAKER_07

No, you're right, Jack. Yeah. I thought they looked good. Yeah. I I do not do races for themes, and I do not avoid races because of themes. I do the races for the Rise and Run family. But I thought the artwork for these themes, the way they used the little movie cell type background, or frame, if you will. I thought that looked pretty neat. And in terms of characters, yeah, they're good characters. Good themes for springtime surprise, not as good as what John had worked out, though.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, I think John's is epic.

SPEAKER_14

I will say, and I will preface all my comments

Themes Reactions And Lost Extras

SPEAKER_14

with reiterating what you said is that you should not run a race because of a theme. You should be running it to experience, running through the parks, running with this amazing community. But that being said, we're a Run Disney podcast, so I'm gonna I'm gonna give my thoughts and feelings on these themes. And to me, the cohesion of these four characters, properties, intellectual properties or whatever, to me makes as much sense as that wine and dine year. Um, remember when it was like Encanto Figment was the challenge and stuff like that? And I was like, you know, and it wasn't until like someone like pointed out that like the theme in in the the press release or whatever that Run Disney puts out was that the theme is everyone coming to the table because I think Alice in Wonderland was part of I think was the 5k of that weekend. And you know, so I'm like I'm wondering, like, wreck it Ralph Robin Hood, and I'm like, what are they going with here? And then it was like you know, films through the decades, and to me, okay, like all fine, well, and good. Number one, you kind of already did that a little bit, like you inadvertently did that the one year during Marathon weekend. Right. Um, during I think it was technically like during the Disney 100 celebration. Like it wasn't advertised in like the artwork or the medals, but like you know, I remember the you know, the race announcing team talking about the decades and how the characters that were out on the courses, you know, each um each race represented you know a couple different decades and stuff like that. So, number one, you've kind of already done this. Number two, to me, if if I'm thinking going through the decades, I don't know why my brain is just like wired to go chronological order as opposed to here they're going in reverse.

SPEAKER_00

I thought the same thing, Greg.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, it is reverse, isn't it?

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, yeah, because the the one thing that threw me off was is that I didn't re realize, you know, especially going back to our March Madness conversation that you know we had a couple months back. I always thought that like Robin Hood was like old, old school Disney. And then I didn't realize that that movie was made in in the 70s.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, 70s. Oh, I was gonna guess 60s, 70s out there.

SPEAKER_14

So and now, but I will I will give Run Disney their credit, though. They selected properties that I want to say people were clamoring for, but you know, at least they you know they thought a little bit outside of the box, which which again I I do want to give them their credit on, but at the same time, though, I to me it's just like way too random. Like to me, a perfect example was two years ago when they did the heroes theme. Like, yes, it was very random intellectual properties over the span of time, but they all but it all made sense together to me. Outside of running through the decades, I can't find any correlation between Ralph, Robin Hood, Steamboat Willie, and Alice in Wonderland. So to me, it it's a little confusing, but I mean, going off of public comment on social media today, to me, I thought the big highlight was going to be people losing their minds over Steamboat Willie, because you know, clearly it all started with the mouse, but what people are really excited about is Robin Hood, which I thought was really uh it's a rare, it's a rare character to see at a race, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_09

Um theme wise, and I think because you've already seen Alice in Wonderland, I believe they've haven't they done a wreck it route somewhere. Before. Was it like Hong Kong Disneyland? Maybe I'm like thinking it.

SPEAKER_14

I mean, Ralph and Venelope, I feel like are always out on the course, but I don't think they've ever been given like a race theme weekend, at least here in the States.

SPEAKER_09

Okay. Maybe I'm going to go. Okay.

SPEAKER_07

I don't recall seeing them on a metal.

SPEAKER_09

Okay, so that's a first. So they're all all of them are actually.

SPEAKER_07

Um Alice has been around. Alice has been used.

SPEAKER_01

Alice has been around. Yeah, Alice has been used, and so has Steamboat Willy. Steamboat Willie.

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Right? Or no? Did we have Steamboat? I don't remember.

SPEAKER_15

We had Wall. I don't think we had Oswald.

SPEAKER_07

We had Oswald. Oswald. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Okay.

SPEAKER_15

There we go.

SPEAKER_09

Oswald, yeah. Because I was on at a marathon weekend, 5K one year, right? Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

Well, and then the other, I guess, springtime surprise that we got today as well. Uh, and again, I think because of the date change, this really didn't get as much play. Is there is no yoga anymore for this weekend. Oh.

SPEAKER_09

Oh, I didn't even notice that.

SPEAKER_14

Yep. I don't I don't think it even sold out last year. Yeah, I don't think so either.

SPEAKER_00

So people said it was the best yoga that they've ever done at Disney. So that's really interesting.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

And that's at Hollywood, I think, too, if I'm not mistaken. Correct.

SPEAKER_07

I missed the dagum beach party they had after. Uh well, did we have one? Did we have two yoga?

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, it was it was just one.

SPEAKER_07

Uh the uh they canceled the other one, didn't they?

SPEAKER_14

Correct. Yeah, you are right, but they they had announced it and then they and then they rolled it back.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

I liked that.

SPEAKER_07

Do it again.

SPEAKER_09

They should honestly, like, if the Ten Miler does not get sold out very often right away for the race weekend. Usually it's kind of takes a little bit longer for that one to sell out. I wish they would do it like how they do Wine and Dine, where they just keep Epcot open for a few extra hours, put some rare characters in it, and voila, make it like an exclusive thing for that weekend. I wish they would have done that for Typhoon Lagoon. Because I think a lot of people honestly, if I saw that I was for the 10 miler or the challenge, if I saw that Typhoon Lagoon was going to be open for me in in addition to doing the race, I'd actually probably do it.

SPEAKER_10

That wasn't included in your race, bib, was it? No, that was correct. It was an extra ticket, yeah.

SPEAKER_14

Because I mean, in theory, I did Typhoon Lagoon back to back uh springtimes a couple of years back. The first time was now it wasn't a sanctioned event, but that was when Run Disney was offering that deal where if you showed your bib or your medal, you could get a 50% off ticket to Typhoon Lagoon. So I remember doing that with Allie and Casey and Heidi, and we had a grand and glorious. It was it was the perfect way to not only, or as as Pelky would always say, race and relax. Um, but then the year later, that's when they had the specially ticketed event. And I remember Bob, you and I went, I remember there's a whole bunch of people. I know Tom and Diana from the World Run for podcast, you know, they came out for it, and I had a really good time. Did I think it was worth the ticket price in which they charged? No, but it was still it was still worthwhile. So, you know, the fact that they got rid of yoga, if they could have supplemented it with something like that, I think that would have been fun.

SPEAKER_09

I just remember that weekend that they're really hard selling the commemorative item from the right, right, right. At the beginning of each race beforehand, oh, the typhoon.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, it was like that wet bag and the glow cube and the sticker or something like that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

But you know what it was? It was a nice way to say goodbye for the season. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

That's what I really enjoyed.

SPEAKER_14

I mean, it was great. I mean, there was, you know, a empty water park, uh, unlimited Mickey bars, and Bob kicking JJ in the head.

SPEAKER_07

That's right. That's right. That's right.

unknown

That's right.

SPEAKER_07

You know what JJ's doing right this minute? I know exactly what JJ's doing right this minute. Argentina's playing soccer right now. And they're up one nothing.

SPEAKER_10

And they're up one nothing right now.

SPEAKER_07

Ah, I know what I know what they're doing.

SPEAKER_14

I know I know we've been talking about themes here, but uh I would like to circle back though to the date change. Did anybody have to scramble today or make resort adjustments? Because I know I did because with DVC, you know, I specifically was like right at my 11-month window, and I was holding my breath today, uh, you know, hoping that I could, you know, have or at least have you know my home resort still available, but and and I was able to change it without a problem. But did anybody else run into issues today?

SPEAKER_10

I I actually didn't book my reservation yet because I have to decide what what type of room do I want, and do I want to borrow points from next year? So I kind of waited and now I gotta see the price. Maybe it's down a little less. I don't know. We'll find out. Hopefully it's not more point.

SPEAKER_14

Oh, but oh in terms of points, uh, John, I would say based on the the way that I shifted things, the point charts are pretty much the same, uh, even though it's it's uh even though it's only one week different. It's still Easter week.

SPEAKER_10

It's still Easter spring break time, so yeah, I figured.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. So who's going? Obviously, Greg and John plan to go. Jack, Alicia?

SPEAKER_00

So to Greg's question, I think my mom originally booked it. I told her about the date change today. I don't know if she's gonna change it to the dates or not. I don't think I'm gonna do this one. Um, I think that I'll wait and see what the themes are for the next spring prize.

SPEAKER_06

Star Wars.

SPEAKER_09

Oh man. But um no, I will not be running this year um for a springtime, but I will be cheering. I'll be I'll be nearby.

SPEAKER_07

You'll be there? Yeah, yeah. That's right. Well, you you live there now, that's right.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

We got hope to get in. Well, that's true, John. That's true. If I will try to get in, I will try to get in for the challenge and I will take what I get.

SPEAKER_10

I just I must want to do the 10 miler again, and that that was fun. Just doing the 10 miler. But I I also want I wonder, we find out in a week or two, do these perfects get early registration?

SPEAKER_14

Oh, that's a very good point. Yeah, I'm not sure what I would I want to do because initially when it was the original weekend, my plan, I think, was I was going to try to run the 10k and then cheer the 10 miler, but now I might I might do one or the other. I'm definitely not doing the challenge because for as much as I love springtime surprise, the fact you know it's the with the the the 6.6% service fee, which hopefully won't crap out this time, you know, that challenge is up over $500 now.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

I I think I I'm officially priced out of that, so I'll just be doing one. So either be the 10K or the 10 Miler. I probably will lean 10K because of the Robin Hood and having that to be unique and such, but at the same time, based on social media reaction and registration trends, that's definitely gonna be the first one to go. So I gotta keep my fingers crossed for a lucky queue time.

SPEAKER_07

Okay, so once uh once we get to registration, we'll see what happens.

SPEAKER_14

And hopefully no more surprises.

SPEAKER_02

Caution runners, change of topic ahead.

Disney Parks Last Meal Fantasy Draft

SPEAKER_14

Well, we've actually been talking a lot longer than I initially thought we were going to be this week, but I I I came up with this idea. Now, I will admit, folks, this is not running related. I mean, I I guess maybe it could you could call it somewhat running related. Maybe it relates to car roll loading or no great help helping you pick something for a celebration meal. But here's the idea that I came up with, and I presented it to my co-hosts, and I'm actually kind of excited about this topic. I stumbled upon a new podcast in my Instagram feed a couple of weeks ago, and it is a uh it's from the group Mythical Kitchen, and it's a video podcast that um you can either watch it on YouTube or exclusively on Spotify, and it's called Last Meal. And essentially, this podcast interviews celebrities and asks them if you knew what your last day on earth was going to be, what would be the meal that you would have as your last meal? And definitely go check this out. Like I've watched a couple of episodes, it's got Tom Hanks, you know, it's got stars like Hugh Jackman, but then it's also got like heavy hitters in the culinary world, like Alton Brown and Gordon Ramsey and such. So I thought it would be fun to ask my co-hosts what their last meal would be, but the twist is that the food or drink has to come exclusively from Disney parks or resorts. So I guess you know, maybe to make it a little less morbid, maybe not your last meal on earth, but maybe if this was your last meal, if you knew you're never gonna go to a Disney park or resort again, this is the feast that you would want to have. So we're each gonna go through our list and then uh you know comment and get our reactions. And I think Bob is going to kick us off with his Disney Last Meal.

SPEAKER_07

Well, I'll tell you right off, I'm cheating from the very start. Okay, because number one, I knew I couldn't eat all this, but I've broken down appetizer soup, salad, entree, side dish, and dessert. And in most of these categories, I've got more than one. That's quite a lot. So I'm cheating, okay? Appetizer. Here's the low-hanging fruit. The bread service at Sanaa.

SPEAKER_15

Amen.

SPEAKER_09

That's easy. I didn't even think about that one.

SPEAKER_07

What? Here's one that I and if I'm if I'm only going to pick one out of what I'm telling you, but I'm picking this one. If you go to the Dolphin Hotel and you go into the entrance when you get off the boat, the one on the ground floor there, and you turn right, that is Todd English's Blue Zoo restaurant. Kind of an upscale place. There's a lounge right there. They serve a Tepin seared uh sea scallop. It's the scallops are served on uh tender beef, and they're amazing. Absolutely amazing. I only had them once, but they're fantastic. Oh, by the way, the tuna tuna tartare is also amazing there, but now I'm going too far. No, you're not. That's quite soup. Soup. The cheese soup at La Cellier is wonderful, but it ain't as good as the hot and sour soup at Morimoto's. Oh, I'm a source. I'm a fan of Asian buffets, and I would always get the hot and sour soup at the Asian buffet, and I enjoy it. And then I had it at Morimoto's, and I remember literally looking up and saying to Becky, this is what it's supposed to taste like. It's it's amazing. Uh for a while there it was off the menu. After COVID, it was off the menu and either only served at lunch or dinner, I forget which. It's back on the menu now, but the hot and sour soup at Morimoto's is incredible. For a salad, there's only one salad. That's the cob salad at the Hollywood Brown Derby. Uh it's a meal unto its own. I usually do not get it with accompaniments. You can get it with chicken, or I think you can get it with shrimp. I just usually get the salad. For an entree, a lot of great entrees, a lot of great steaks. La Celier is a wonderful place to get a steak, but I didn't include those. I have two favorites, and one's gonna be a little bit off the wall. And at the Ale and Compass restaurant, they serve a New England seafood pot pie that is absolutely delicious. Becky and I love it. We order it every time we get there, it's terrific. But probably my favorite entree in the parks, back to Morimoto's for what's called the Morimoto Burry Bop. Buribop. Yeah, yeah. Bibimbop is a Korean dish. And the reason I know some of this is because I order it, and every time you order it, they prepare it at your table. And the server has to tell you the story about how Chef Morimoto prepared this dish, and it's the one he used to win and become an iron chef. And it's delicious. It's yellow fin tuna, I believe. And the the bowl that they serve it in is so hot, it's probably four or five hundred degrees when they bring it out. It's on a wooden platter. Of course, they tell you not to touch it. I've never touched it. I never have. I'm proud of you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know it's out of character for me. Um and it they they they cook it right there, they stir it, the rice gets a little crispy in the bowl, there's vegetables, they uh put a f uh fresh egg over, and there's a sauce that goes with it. It's uh it's hard for me to convince myself to order something else at Morimoto's. We order it almost every time. Becky and I split it. Sometimes we'll add something else with it, but the Morimoto Berry Bop is awesome. My side dish. Have you ever had the Brussels sprouts at the Polite Pig?

SPEAKER_09

I've never been roasted.

SPEAKER_07

I don't like the polite pigs at Disney Springs. I don't like Brussels sprouts. Basically, I don't really like them at all, except I like these. They're delicious. Do you like green eggs and ham?

SPEAKER_10

Oh, sorry.

SPEAKER_07

You're not Sam, I am. Here's a side on Brussels sprouts. There's a place very close to where I live here that serves peanut butter and jelly Brussels sprouts. Jackie'd love them.

SPEAKER_08

Sounds awful. Sounds sound awful.

SPEAKER_07

Sounds insane. They're delicious. They're absolutely delicious. But that's not Disney. I sidetracked there. I don't eat a lot of desserts. So I was hard pressed for this one. There's some great bread puddings out there, but I don't remember where I got them. A lot of them I got off of like a buffet line or something. So my dessert, if I'm going out in style, I'm going down in flames. I'm going to beaches and cream, and I'm sitting down for the kitchen sink.

SPEAKER_15

Kitchen sink, good choice.

SPEAKER_07

Who's joining me?

SPEAKER_09

I will.

SPEAKER_07

Okay. A whole can. It was fun. I only did it once. I did it with my wife, my brother, and his wife, and we killed it pretty well. We did a good job. So let me, I'm just going to hit the highlights, the ones that I like the best. The uh seared sea scallops at Todd English's, the hot and sour soup at Morimoto's, the cob salad, the berry bop at Morimoto's, the Brussels sprouts at the Polite Pig, and the kitchen sink at Peaches and Cream.

SPEAKER_14

Excellent. Well, Bob, I'm very, very impressed that you did not give or list the whole the entire menu at Morimoto. So we're really proud of you. We really like it to come up with quite the diverse range there.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

All right. Alicia, you're up next. Let's hear your last meal.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so I went with the idea of not necessarily passing away, but rather never being able to get away. Never being able to go to any Disney area again. Um, and I went a little different route than Bob. Um, so I kind of have meals to go through, um, a whole day adventure. I would start my day with an Ube donut from um Everglazed Donuts. And then I would sit down for lunch with a glass of Hanang Sauvignon Blanc. Technically, you could get that not at Disney, but I first had it at Wine Country Tutorial in um California Venture over in California. I would have some fried pickles from Carnation Cafe that's also in Disneyland.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Um I absolutely love the guacamole and chips and salsa from Frontiera Cucina in Disney Springs. So it would have that and mac and cheese balls from Geyser Point. And then as I'm moving on in the day, I would have a peach sangria from Homecoming. And I would have that with the trick and chicken. Mind you, mine are a little bit different.

SPEAKER_14

I was gonna say, if we're your last meal, are you incorporating meat?

SPEAKER_00

I am not, I am including dairy, so I would have to take lactate pills um to be able to enjoy my last meal. Um, but I did not include meat in this. But I would have the trick and chicken from Whispering Canyon um with barbecue sauce and coleslaw. And then I don't know if you guys have ever been to Il Molino, um, also over at the Sauna Dolphin. Um, they have a pasta that is called rigatoni kan fungi. I would get that with extra spicy peppers. I love that one. Um, and then to finish off my last meal, I would get the tofuti ice cream and sugar, cinnamon sugar donut from Ohana. Um, and also some zebra domes to finish it off.

SPEAKER_14

Oh, I forgot about zebra domes.

SPEAKER_15

Oh, good pull there, Alicia.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

So how many lactate pills would you have to take for that meal for you to survive?

SPEAKER_00

A lot, because I have to take a lot more than most people. Um, so um, but it would definitely be worth it. The mac and cheese balls from Geyser Point are plant-based, so I could eat those without taking any. But some of those things I would towards the end, my last half, the zebra dumps and the il Molina pasta for sure.

SPEAKER_14

When you said mac and cheese balls, I thought you were gonna go with I've heard Winebar George, apparently. Oh, those ones are very good. Um I think they use like goldfish uh crackers in in their breading or something like that. I I remember listening to one on WDW radio years ago when he did one of his live food reviews.

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember the goldfish crackers, but I have had those before. Um honestly, so those ones have kind of like a spicy marinara sauce, and so does the ones from Geyser Point. The Geyser Point ones in general have like a smokier flavor. I still think I would choose those even though they're plant-based. So yeah.

SPEAKER_14

Excellent. All right. All right, Jack. Obviously, we know there's gonna be nothing peanut butter and jelly related on your last meal. So so you you're you're not getting the peanut butter and jelly milkshake from 50s prime time. We know that for sure. But what is on your Disney Parks and Resorts last meal list?

SPEAKER_09

My my soccer coach during soccer camp once uh well, actually, once asked my mom, where does she put it? Because I would eat anything and everything, and it just would just you don't know where. Um I was like a garbage truck, uh, or yeah, it just I ate so much. But so I think I could honestly feel like if I tried really hard, I'd probably eat all this food I'm about to say. So we're gonna get started. For the appetizer, I well, there's two. I want to go to the Hollywood and Vine restaurant and their buffet. They have a really good, I believe it's like a fried sesame tofu that's just so good. It has like a nice little crunch to it, the sauce they put in with it.

SPEAKER_14

Oh she won't eat peanut butter and jelly, but she'll eat tofu. Right.

SPEAKER_09

This is really surprising to me. I've never had that tofu before. I've I've really, really, really enjoy it. I would go back just for that. So for my next little appetizer or snack, however you want to put it, I want to go halfway around the world to Tokyo Disney Sea and get like the steamed shrimp bun that it looks like a little life raft um next to the attraction that unfortunately will be um going away soon. Um over, I believe it's called Port of Adventure. Um, but it's so good. The dough is just so bouncy and just I their buns over there, just absolutely delicious. Those two items for like appetizer a snack. Now, I'm just gonna go straight for the entree, no super salad for me because these two next things are kind of nicely sized where I feel like I can fit it in. And that is going to be again, we're gonna stay in Tokyo for a hot second, Tokyo Disneyland. They had a really good pork uh cutlet with curry, and it's just it has such a good crunch, and the curry just has such the right amount of heat in it, and it's just so good, but it's not super overfilling. So I feel like I can go to my next entree, which would be over in Epcot, over at Le Cellier. Their filet mignon with the mushroom risotto, because I love mushrooms. My goodness, I love mushrooms, and I think that's just a favorite. Fantastic yummy combination. And because I have such a horrible sweet tooth, we're doing three desserts, so get excited. One of which unfortunately is no, it was seasonal, and I really hope they bring it back over at the Riz uh the Riviera Resort. Um, it's it it was over in their little cafe called Le Petite Cafe. I cannot say what this dessert is, and I'm gonna butcher it, so I do apologize. But it was like a a lemon entremont or however you say. Um, but it's basically like a almost like a lemon like little cheesecake thing, and it was so good. I love lemon, and I just thought it was absolutely delicious. I hope they bring it back sometime soon. Again, I know it was seasonal, so they have something different right now, but please bring it back. Um so I would get that. Then um, again, they don't have this anymore. I was devastated when I went to Beer Garden um this past year and discovered that they changed the menu, which I was really, really sad. But they had an absolutely uh delicious Bavarian cheesecake. Again, cheesecake trend. Um, it just had that good like the powdered sugar on top with the cheesecake. That was so nice. And the in the and the cake underneath is like moist. Oh, I loved it. And then last but not least, we're gonna have to fly back over to Tokyo because I I the food there, I will go there just for the food. But um, this is a classic over there, and I really love the green alien mochi, which has like a curry, strawberry, and not curry, sorry, custard and strawberry. I was wondering that would have been weird. Um but yeah, I'm I would eat all of that. Oh my mouth is literally salivated. Is it just me? No, it isn't it.

SPEAKER_14

I'm right there with you, Jack. Okay, this podcast is gonna make a lot of people hungry, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_09

I know.

SPEAKER_14

All right, John. Your last meal before you you head off into a galaxy far, far away. What's your last meal?

SPEAKER_10

Okay, so I I didn't like my last meal being my last meal there, so I kind of just pivoted here and got some of my other meals. Like if I was doing breakfast, it's gonna be Kona Cafe. I gotta get the Tonga toast before you go. Never, you know, I've never had it. You never had it? It it's I wonder if it I know they're changing the menu there. I I wonder if it's still gonna be on that menu.

SPEAKER_14

No, it it's it's still there. Really, the only the only decision you ever have to make about Tonga toast is you either get it at Kona Cafe where they'll give you the strawberry sauce, or you can get it at Captain Cook's the quick service, but there's no strawberry sauce, and they just give you um, you know, just regular old syrup.

SPEAKER_10

Gotta go Kona Cafe. That that would be my uh go-to breakfast meal if I had it last thing I did get there. Uh for lunch, I'm probably going. I I this is where I'm going back in time. So, Jack, get the Mandalorian out. I I used to like the electric the electric umbrella. They had a good selection of food in there. This is pretty uh probably pre.

SPEAKER_07

It's a while back. Yeah. Remind me where it was, John.

SPEAKER_14

It's where it's where Connections Cafe is. Yeah, Connection Cafe is now.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, yep. Okay. For a snack, I don't know if anybody is. I'm still these are extinct items, unfortunately. Anyone remember Figaro Fries? What? No, Figaro Fries. I do not. Right next to this is a small world, uh the Pinocchio Village. Uh what figure fries. It was French fries with ranch dressing, tomatoes, bacon. It sounded weird. It sounds good, actually. They were really good. And then they for some reason they decided to stop making them, and uh, I get I gotta set the laugh. You don't I said you don't have figaroe fries anymore? That was like a go-to uh go-to snack during the day at Magic Kingdom. And going again for dinner, gotta go with the OG uh Polynesian uh what do you call ohanahs? I mean the noodles, the skewers, the bread pudding. Uh when they used to bring the pineapple out with the cinnamon on it, all that fun stuff. That was the uh the meal. I think. And then that would be it, I think. I mean, I mean dessert-wise, I got everything at Ohana's. I'm I'm eating the pineapple.

SPEAKER_15

All right.

SPEAKER_10

Excellent. Great job, John.

SPEAKER_15

All right. This is a lengthy list. Strap in everyone, here we go. And uh hopefully you're wearing stretchy pants for this one, too.

SPEAKER_14

All right, you gotta start wear pants.

SPEAKER_07

Oh god.

SPEAKER_14

All right, you gotta start off every meal with a cocktail. So I am getting the night fell upon ube from Ama Ama in Alani. Uh, it's their uh their version of a uh old-fashioned that has uh Ube in it. Uh going back to John what John was just talking about, uh, going to the Tamboo Lounge for a Lapu Lapu in a pineapple. Breakfast foods. I'm heading over to Tapolino's Terrace at the Riviera, and I'm getting the sour cream waffle. Then I'm hopping on a plane over to uh to Disneyland, and I'm getting the Raspberry Rose Mickey Macroon from Jolly Holiday Bakery. Uh then I'm coming back uh east side. I'm gonna start my my lunch uh and uh snacks here. Gotta get the cheeseburger steam pods uh from Satul Canteen in Animal Kingdom. Uh I will be joining Bob in our last meal over at Kidani Village in Animal Kingdom Lodge for the bread service from Sanaa. Uh then I'm going to my home DVC resort of the Polynesian at Captain Cook's, and I'm getting my very, very favorite pulled pork nachos. Now, uh, these next couple we're uh sticking to Disneyland. Uh I'm getting the beef berea ramen from the Lucky Fortune Cookery in the San Francisco section of DCA. Then I'm hopping across the esplanade. Two separate things, but I'm putting them together. I'm getting the Banion Beef Skewer from Bangle Barbecue and Adventure. Oh, that was good. And I'm sticking it in the middle of a cheesy garlic pretzel from Maurice's treats.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that was good too.

SPEAKER_14

Now I'm hopping on a cruise ship, and I'm getting the secret pizza that you can get from Palo, and that is a pizza that has gorgonzola cheese and grapes on it. It sounds super bizarre, but it was absolutely delicious, and I can't stop thinking about it.

SPEAKER_00

It's fantastic. If you go on a Disney cruise and you do go to Palo, sometimes they are still able to make it if they have the ingredients, so just ask.

SPEAKER_14

Then I joined Bob for bread service. I'm joining John at Ohana, where I specifically want the pot stickers, the wings, the noodles, and the shrimp. Love it. Sticking with the all you care to enjoy, I then just want a big platter of the tater tots, the mac and cheese, and the sausage from Roundup Rodeo Barbecue in Toy Story Land Hollywood Studios. Uh then I'm hopping the Skyliner over to the boardwalk. I want the gumbo poutine.

SPEAKER_08

Oh.

SPEAKER_14

Then I'll walk back into Epcot. I'm gonna get my second pizza of the day, and that is the uh prosciutto and melon pizza from Via Napoli uh in Italy. Then I'm hopping back over the Hollywood Studios. Now we're entering the dessert realm here. I'm gonna go get a Wookiee cookie from the Backlot Express uh in Hollywood Studios. I'm getting the cookies and cream from Gideon's down in Disney Springs. Gotta have a Dole Whip. I'm shocked nobody has mentioned Dole Whip in all of their lists here. And then if I have any more room left, I'm sampling some of the pineapple bread pudding from either Ohana or Sebastian's Bistro.

SPEAKER_08

Wait, so what is this waffle with sour cream? I'm still mind-blown right now.

SPEAKER_14

No, it's a a sour cream waffle. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Oh.

SPEAKER_14

So it yeah, they're sour cream in the batter of the waffle.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, I had my idea.

SPEAKER_07

What were you picturing, Jack? Well, she's picturing you putting sour cream on top of a waffle.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Thank you, Bob.

SPEAKER_07

Which I guess you could do, but I'm not sure that I would.

SPEAKER_10

Here's one. Have you guys ever tried the uh Captain Crunch chicken fingers at Planet Hollywood?

SPEAKER_09

No, but it sounds intriguing.

SPEAKER_10

You know, as another place I'd never eaten, John. Never eaten Planet Hollywood. They were they were pretty good. Let's talk about some old places that old odd things. So you talked about the duck goldfish uh back and was it cheese balls?

SPEAKER_15

Oh, the mac and cheese bites, yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, like that got me thinking about that.

SPEAKER_07

You know what struck me interesting, friends, is that I expected, I mean, I've I l I have a literal list here on a spreadsheet. Now I went first, but I expected as we went along we were gonna be lining things out because oh yeah, Greg already said that or Alicia. We had almost we had very little overlap. Yeah, very little. Yeah, and there are there are things I could still add, there's some wonderful sushi available at uh at Disney. Morimoto's of course, but you know what else has really good sushi? The bowling alley. You can get excellent sushi at Splitzville. Uh there's a uh avocado and tuna tartar thing there that you have to ask for, it's not on the menu. Uh I know I'm expanding the horizons here, but it was fun. There are a lot of wonderful foods at various different places. Some of them you just wouldn't think of. Like peanut butter and jelly Brussels.

SPEAKER_14

All right, well, maybe what we'll do is we can get the community involved. This one, you know, maybe we'll put up a Facebook post on uh on day of release here, and uh be sure to tell us what your last Disney Parks and resort meal

Race Report Roundup And Spotlight

SPEAKER_14

would be.

SPEAKER_02

Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.

SPEAKER_07

It's not a Zoom Thursday this week, it will be next week. Good chance for you to come up with your own last meal. Or let's let's be honest, what we're really talking about here is our favorite dishes. So some favorite dishes, not necessarily favorite restaurants, but favorite dishes from appetizers to snacks to desserts to entrees in the in the Disney universe. And now please stand clear of the door. It's time for a race report. I've been thinking about this for a couple weeks. That we always play that clip and we play the the monorail audio, and I and I think you probably knew this. The voice of the monorail, and I just Greg just found his name for me, Tom Cain. He passed away just a couple weeks ago.

SPEAKER_10

There was actually five monorail voices at one time. The original one was Jack Wagner to the early 80s, then Kevin Miles from 80s to 97, Matt Hansen, 97 to 2004, John Hirsch, 2004 to 2012, and then Tom Kane, 2012 to 2026.

SPEAKER_07

That's interesting that they would have replaced because I'm pretty sure they're not doing it live. I think it's I'm pretty sure it's on recording. So I'm a little surprised that they did that many.

SPEAKER_10

They gotta change it every time there's new uh resorts and all that other stuff, so I guess. Yeah, I guess.

SPEAKER_07

But I did want to bring it up because what the heck is part of Disney history, and now he's gone. I talked about the race report last week that is on our Facebook group page, and what I did is I basically started over. I took the old report, it's not gone, we still have it. It's a good archive. I think it's like 700 pages of races over a three-year period. So those races are still there, they're still accessible. If you ever if you can't find them, they're buried somewhere in our Facebook group. If you can't find them and you're interested in an old race, let me know. I'll see if I can find it for you. But I started all over, and the new link is pinned to the featured section of the Facebook group page, and you should have access to it. Now, I'll still help you out. Our our friends Rob and uh Monica uh have been also helping on that, adding people. If you don't want to add it yourself, just put your race in the comments. But we're doing that. And a last reminder the Puppet Runner Virtual Run is still out there. It ends at the end of the month. Anybody, I haven't finished mine yet. I've got a 10K I need to do, and I haven't I've done a couple 5Ks, but I haven't done the 10K.

SPEAKER_10

I did mine. I did mine. I did the five I put a five and a ten in there.

SPEAKER_07

Good. Yeah, I want to do that and and put it in for Andrew the Puppet Runner. All right, let's kick it off on Saturday in Hell, Michigan, by golly. That's really the name of a city in Michigan, and Christy was there doing the dances with dirt. Of course, it's a 6.66K in Hell, Michigan, right? First trail race. This is part of a series called Dances with Dirt up there in Michigan. Thankfully, Christy survived the underroll with a little help from her friends. Really nice morning in hell. That just sounds funny. Once they cross the finish line, they got water, beer, barbecue brisket with mac and cheese served in a waffle cone. Put that on your last meal in hell. So I think Christy shows back up on the race report later this week, later uh today. Laura Ann was in Newport Richie, Florida, not far from here for the Rap River Run 5K. In coming to Virginia, Mary did the Jackson River Half Marathon Trail Race. State number 12, Mary's chasing all 50. Awesome race. Packed gravel and rolling hills on the course. Wonderful, amazing views, top-notch support on this race in Virginia. The Super Hayek Half Marathon occurred in Snokwalamy Pass, Washington. Had a couple husband and wife teams there, Laura and Brian. The race starts out with a two-mile tunnel. You need a headlamp to go through it. And then the rest of the course is a gentle downhill. Really lovely day for Laura and Brian's second year running this one. Laura got a new PR on the course. It's a point-to-point race, so you ride a bus back to the start, and the mountain views on the drive back were terrific. Rachel and her husband agree it's a beautiful course. They both ran PRs. And both got proofs of time. We're already talking about going back next year. She wants to thank her coaches Allie and Tom. Des Moines, Iowa. We've been to Des Moines a couple times lately on the race report. Angela did the Capital City Pride Stride 5K. Perfect weather. Until Meyer 203, where it got a little hot. Trying for a PR, missed it by less than a minute, but she did wear some new leggings that are a size smaller than the old ones, so that's a win. There you go. There's your non-scale victories. In Detroit, I knew Christy was back. Here she is again. Same day. Survived hell and did the Palmer Park 5K. It's an historic park in Detroit, home to the oldest indigenous forest in Detroit, a log cabin from the late 1800s. A lot of recreational opportunities there. This is a pride celebration of pride celebration event, and for a small event, there were a lot of volunteers. Nicole was in Ontario, Canada for the butter tart half marathon. A race a little more challenging than she wanted with how strong the sun was, and the course was not measured quite right. It was 400 meters long, but she still managed to meet her goal of running her first sub two-hour half marathon. First sub-two. That's a PR. Good job, Nicole. Let's see. Candy. Candy was at the Grand Tetons 5K and half last week, and this week she was at the Yellowstone 5K and half. Had just a wonderful time at both. I bet those sound terrific. We had a bunch of friends running the Wicked Fast San Diego Marathon or Half Marathon. We got this little report. Hi, welcome to the Rise and Run Podcast.

SPEAKER_11

It's Alan from Anaheim.

SPEAKER_13

Grace? Melissa from Calgary? Wendy from Florida.

SPEAKER_11

We just finished the Wicked Half Marathon. And we found the wicked portion of it.

SPEAKER_13

It's supposed to be Wicked Fast. It was Wicked. Happy Running. Happy Running.

SPEAKER_07

Happy Running. So let's see. It's kind of tough for me to tell who did the half, who did the full. They had Wicked Heat and the Wicked Steep third mile. Alan and Grace were there. I'm pretty sure Alan did the half. I'm not sure what Grace did. Melissa, Wendy, let's see. Sin Marie, Jackie. Jennifer did her second full. Took a tumble around mile 15. Alan said, she said Alan had more face faith in her than she did, but she got up and got through it and finished the full. Davis finished just a few seconds over three hours and 30 minutes in this tough event. Apparently, and we've seen it, it was really hot in Southern California last week. And I think Bob Wendy got a P.O.T. in this race. Thanks, John. That's great. The group kind of all ran, I don't say together, but they were all together. A lot of photos. Looks like they had a good time. The Serial City Classic. Now, where would that be, friends? Where would the serial city classic be? Battle Creek, Michigan. Gotta be Battle Creek, Michigan, right? So you Jack, you and Alicia, and I'm not sure about Greg, you're too young to remember collecting box tops and sending them off to Battle Creek, Michigan.

SPEAKER_00

I remember box tops, but I don't remember where we sent them to.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, you probably brought them to school in your school. Yeah. And and we before cell phones, we used to read the back of the uh solar box.

SPEAKER_07

Well, you would, yeah, right. That's right. In the morning, you would. Um, we would mail the box top. You'd need to send three box tops off to Battle Creek, Michigan, you get some toy, and it would take, oh, I don't know, three or four years to get to you. It seemed that way when you were a kid. It was that little submarine where you put the little baking soda in the middle. That was one of them. Yeah. Yeah. Allow six to eight weeks for delivery. You tell a seven-year-old kid six to eight weeks for delivery. Anyway, Mark and Liz were in Battle Creek for the Serial City classic. Small local race. Nice shaded course by the river. Uh Mark PR'd it by two minutes. Liz didn't PR, but got her first ever podium finish in age group second place. So successful run in Serial City. In Arkansas. Now, I think I've got a race that friends you've identified under two titles. I've got the Arkansas Runner, Two Miler, and Little Rock, and then I've got the SOMA Mile, S-O-M-A, with the S's and the M capitalized. So let's go with the SO Ma Mile. Ryan did that. Uh, he was working as a volunteer on Friday when he he got a phone call, found out that his mom and grandmother had been in a traffic accident. So he headed back to see if he could help them. Now, fortunately, everything turned out okay with that. He turns around, comes back. Little Rock for the race. Once he gets back, he missed his corral, ends up running with the elites. The elites went off last. Now, if I'm reading his report correctly, he finished last in that group with a 554 mile and ended up second overall in his age group and then 69th of everybody in the race, but just couldn't hang with the elites. Well, that's pretty darn good, Ryan. Bottom line that he says, and I agree, we all agree with this, he puts it very well. Running's about so much more than results. This one was about gratitude, gratitude for the opportunity to run, and gratitude for a community that shows up for each other when it matters most. So good run, and we're glad that worked out. Our friend Shelby Allison is back. Haven't heard from SA in a little while. She says she's getting back on the bandwagon. Now, Shelby Allison called this one the Arkansas Runner Two Miler. So she said her time wasn't great, but there was a medical emergency on course around the first mile. A few angel runners did compressions and called 911. Police car had one charge left on a portable AED and ended up saving a man's life.

SPEAKER_15

Wow.

SPEAKER_07

So SA and her partner Randy ran her in at the finish. So an exciting event in Arkansas. Let's go to Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Sarah was there running the Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K. A little bit hillier than she expected, but short fun, topped off with a nice community after party. The highlight of the day for her meeting Mike Timlin and Mike Myers from the 2004 Boston Red Sox. Sorry, Yankees fans. 2004 Red Sox reference.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah. Yeah. Thanks for bringing up that past trauma. Really appreciate that one, Bob.

SPEAKER_07

Talk to Sarah. She had a good time. Let's see. We're in uh where are oh there's two okay, there's two races here. The Hatfield and McCoy River Road Half Marathon. There's two halves. One's in Kentucky, one's in West Virginia. Jimmy and Amanda did the one in West Virginia, and they were the 15 minute per mile pacers. Hot sunny race, not a lot of shade. This was half state number five. And first race after turning 44 for Jimmy? I think.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Okay, thanks, Alicia. Uh good race. All four of the races. Each state had a full and a 5K. Had a total of a little over 600 people. Jimmy says he can definitely tell why this one is ranked number one for West Virginia halves. So alright. I'm just gonna let it go at that. It said full in 5K and a half. They had races, they had a good time. Hatfield and McCoy. Uh West Virginia. Good job, Jimmy and Amanda. Moving to Sunday, the ironically named Cool Summer Mornings series in Claremont, Florida. Nothing cool about a summer morning in Claremont, Florida, but summer is spelled S-O-M-M-E-R. I am assuming that's a person's name. It's an out and back on the Lake Apopka Trail, right on the water. Mary Joe was there. Nice little course, somewhat congested for the first half, since it's an out and back on a relatively narrow trail, and runners are going in both directions, especially between the first mile and the turnaround. A few people dressed as unicorns. She is already looking forward to race number two. Jody was there. Lots of good snacks. Beer and freebies at the finish line. Even a visit from a real unicorn to go along with the cool-looking unicorn medal. Anthony was there, also finished this one. Trivia question. I'm full of these. The unicorn is, and this is not a joke, the official animal of what country? The unicorn is the official animal of Scotland.

SPEAKER_14

Interesting.

SPEAKER_09

I did not know that.

SPEAKER_14

Play the NBC graphic, the more you know.

SPEAKER_07

Yep. There you go. There you go. Hey, in the spotlight, the Fitzgerald's 5K logger run in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. John was there. Hey John, how are you doing? How are you doing? I'm doing good. So, John, welcome to the Race Report Spotlight. Tell us, John, how'd you get started running?

SPEAKER_10

Well, that's a really interesting story, Bob. Do we have time for this? Hey, you're in the spotlight, buddy. We got time for you. I got running on and off just at the treadmill on the gym. But my real running career at this thing started probably in 2019 at a little event in Disney called Star Wars Weekend. So yeah, that that was that's how I got started running and made it uh very uh interesting uh hobby or uh fitness journey, if you want to call it. So that that was that. Tell us about the race, John, the 5K. It's a pretty big race because it is a US track and field uh event. So there is a lot of uh run clubs and everyone there going for uh time and place. So it's this was about 900 people, so it was a it was a pretty uh large event. It just runs through the uh borough of Glen Ridge uh up and down you know, the main track. It's a it's a nice fun little race, scenic. Uh it's basically they call it net downhill. Uh-huh. Like I've heard that before, John. But like when you get like maybe like I don't know, maybe two two more you know feet of uh decline than incline, that's a net downhill, I guess. So yeah, I guess it doesn't really seem that way. It doesn't really seem that way when you run it. But it it's it's a it's a it's a good race. Uh like I said, I've been doing this for the last uh three years, and this was good because this year I ran a little faster than I ran last year, which so that's a positive.

SPEAKER_07

That's because that's because of the downhill part. It's the downhill, yeah.

SPEAKER_10

It's the down, it's the downhill.

SPEAKER_14

All right, John. We need we need to hear about the beer and the pretzel that you were holding in that.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_10

Unless this this race is unless you finished in the top whatever in your age group, uh, you don't get a you get a a beer glass. Okay, a stein? Not a stein, just a like like what of what do you what would you call this? Okay. A pint? I would call it a beer glass. Okay, yes. A beer glass, a beer glass. And uh, but of course, I did not get that. At the end of the race, they you get they you gotta you gotta go before the race or to a bunch of people and they got a card used so you can get a wristband. Oh, yeah, right. So you could get beer. Right. It was the Hoboken Brewery sponsors this event also. So they came there with uh day beer, they call it. It's basically a light beer, tastes kind of like uh coarse light. Uh so but it was a nice little beer. And then of course the Philly pretzel company had boxes of Philly pretzels and mustard. Nice, nice, nice. Yeah, that sounds delicious. That was that was it's it's it's it's hits right after the thing. But you know, I said in my report, beer was fine, but pineapple cider would have hit the spot.

SPEAKER_08

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Well, John, what's up next for you? Not this Thursday, next Thursday. Um I'm doing the uh Tom Fleming Sunset Classic in uh my town, and that's a five that's a five-mile run that runs by my house twice. So I have two extra uh aid station, bathroom stops, or you know, whatever I want to call it. So that's my next one.

SPEAKER_09

So is is Diane cheering you from your house?

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, she'll be outside. The neighbors are if they shut the street down so everybody comes out and hangs out, you know. People people go out and play music on the streets because they can kind of get a little encore entertainment. Then you have some of the uh what do you want to call it? The uh unsanctioned water stations where people just I don't I have not seen uh fireball shots on this race, but on other ones on other ones I have. Uh but yeah, so that's that's my next next race, and that will be the 25th of uh June. Maybe maybe I will try to get on the Zoom call mid-race. Who knows? That'd be nice to start at night.

SPEAKER_07

Thanks for taking the time to drop by and tell us about your race, and we look forward to talking to talking to you again soon. I really love the podcast, guys. You guys do a great job. All right. Hey, let's go to Boone, North Carolina, where Denise did the Mountaineer 10 Miler. First couple miles, last couple miles, they ran through Appalachian State University campus. That was a treat. Uh Boone's a beautiful mountain city, but the hill from miles seven to eight, not so beautiful, kind of brutal. Still finished and did well, but probably one and done on this event for Denise. Now, again, we've got an event that I believe this is the same event, but I've got two names for it. Either it's the DC triathlon in Marbury, Maryland, or the Eagleman Iron Man 70.3 triathlon in Cambridge, Maryland. I'm pretty sure they're the same event. We had two friends doing it. We had David. Uh, it really sounded like a great event. The swim was in a marino on a creek by the Potomac, a lot of fun. Uh, David had fun on a beautiful bike ride through scenic Maryland, but he did drop his water bottle and took one wrong turn that he quickly corrected. That's good. Uh, the run was way too hot, but through a nice campground and beautiful marsh. Great day, but he's exhausted. Now, Carol also did this. This is her first half Iron Man, 70.3. So, of course, that's a PR. Beautiful morning, sunrise into the water, nice cloud cover for the bike ride. That helps. Then it turned hot when the sun came out for the run. She did great. Strong on the swim, strong on the bike, survived the run. That's a tactic. Good job. Fun fact on this one the event is named Eagleman because the wildlife refuge it bikes through is one of the largest bald eagle nesting grounds in the lower 48. Good job, David and Carol. Our intro from the day, Sarah with four-year-old Colton in the jogger at Dunedin's best bling of the year 5K Flag Day event. This is a uh leftover event, kind of like the best damn race leftovers, where you pick your own metal and shirt. I realized right now I called it a 5k, but it was a 5K and 10K. And Sarah did do the 10K. It's an out and back on the Pinellas Trail. Starts at the House of Beer or House of Brewing in Dunedin. Really kind of a nice place. I mean, that is literally right on the trail. Uh pretty hot. She said she thought of quitting after the first leg, but stuck it out. Good finish, lots of fun with Colton win-win all the way around. In Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, the rattlesnake run 5K. Terry and Michael were there. Fifth consecutive year doing it out and back along the railroad tracks at Lehigh Gorge State Park. Kind of a small run, no chip timing, no finisher medals, but gorgeous scenery and a friendly group of runners. Slow but solid run for Terry. Michael didn't PR but did play second in his age group. And they had unique trophies for the second place age group finishers. They took bicycle chains and wound them around and formed them to look like snakes with a snake head on them.

I gotta say, Michael and Terry do get around quite a lot. I feel like they're at the race report all the time. They're not too far from me. So one of these days I need to join the two of them for a race. I knew Jim Thorpe when it was still Ma Chunk.

Okay. Yep. Let's go to Lowell, Massachusetts for the greater Lowell YMCA River Run 5K. Audrey with her sisters Sophie Sunshine and Muriel and their mom Robin, really small race. In fact, they took up about 10% of it. No, only kidding. Uh maybe 100, 200 people, mixed terrain, uh, some paves, some dirt walking trails, some sidewalks, and went over a bridge, had a great view of the river. It was hot. It's going to be hot in a lot of these races. Uh Audrey's been pretty diligent with her training, but by mile two and a half, she decided she needed to be smart and walk it out the rest of the way. Uh, they did run when they got to the photographers, though. Well, yeah, that's the way to do it. So there we go. Let's wrap
