Great, we have a half a dozen friends we have six people.

Speaker 2:

I think so yeah.

Speaker 6:

I think we did. Who wanted to talk came and joined and talked with us about Loopy Looper, which went on in New Jersey this weekend the ultra run up there in New Jersey. So we can look forward to that.

You talk newest Lexi. I saw her. I got the notification that she was a patron like 20 minutes before we started recording here. Wow.

Speaker 3:

Hot off the presses.

Speaker 6:

Mary, you've got your. Well, by the time this is released, you'll have both of these, but right now you've got your coupon for your 15% discount, but you don't have your welcome letter yet. I'll get it out to you. Thanks, mary.

Speaker 2:

And actually a fun thing that our Patreon members got to be a part of. Last week. We had a really really cool brainstorming session with them about our upcoming merch pre-order, so we got some really really solid feedback there. And, speaking of merch, our patrons also got a little sneak preview of what the pre-order is going to look like, including merchandise that features a CERN logo that a CERN special guest host this week might have designed for us.

Speaker 6:

What, what Not might have? She did, she did, she did. You're right, you're right. Yeah, we'll have more on that later and those will be up on the shop pretty soon. But again, let's talk about that towards the end of the episode.

Speaker 2:

The Rise and Run podcast is sponsored by our friends over at Magic Bound Travel. Magicboundtravelcom is the website. I know I talked about it last week because of Princess registration, about making sure that you're getting your rooms ASAP. But, as we're going to talk about in a few minutes, run, disney threw a curveball at us and gave us some news last week that we're going to talk about here in just a couple of minutes in terms of springtime surprise.

Speaker 2:

So, if you're interested in running that race weekend, it is vitally important to contact our friends at Magic Bound so that you can get at least a room on hold for that race weekend, or any other race weekend of that matter. And again, it is fully refundable up to 30 days, uh, before traveling. So in you know, I would say get that room If you get into the race, great. If you don't, that's quite all right, it's easy enough to cancel, cancel, but head over the magic bound. They will take great care of you. And again, whether that's world land, cruise line, the other park down the street, you know they can.

Speaker 2:

They can help you with everything it's universal, greg, it is universal, you are, you are right, yeah but again, magicboundtravelcom is their website and when you fill out a form, make sure you uh tell them. You heard about them on the rise around podcast jack.

Speaker 6:

What's going on with youtube?

Speaker 9:

well, bob, you know what? Last week we announced that we were going to be doing this and ask us anything but for greg, ask a host anything, and um, you guys ask the questions and he is going to be filming that this week, so we should have that video up next week, right?

Speaker 2:

Okay, yes, yeah, yeah, I do get the camera and all that situation, yeah. So, jack, I will have that footage to you as soon as I can.

Speaker 9:

You're good. I'm so excited. I love those questions that came in the one about which decade would you want to visit Disney? And I was like, wow, that's such a good question. I never thought of that before.

Speaker 6:

I'm excited to learn about Greg. I know I'm very excited.

Speaker 2:

I'm so secretive, bob, I'm so mysterious.

Speaker 6:

Oh, it's a good bit. Yep, all right, sounds great friends. Hey, let's take a look at the training schedule. Disneyland Halloween oh my goodness, we are four weeks away, four weeks from this episode airing Expo Day in Anaheim, california. I'm psyched. We're on training week 14. It's a long one If you're doing a challenge. You've got a four mile walk and a 12 and a half mile run. You've got one more long one after that. And I messed up last week on this training schedule. I was off somehow so. So forget what I said last week. This week's right, I'm sure it is. So it's four and 12 and a half this week.

Speaker 6:

Wine and dine 12 weeks away now. Training week six training week six for wine and dine and for the marathon For wine and dine, long run training week six training week six for Wine and Dine and for the marathon For Wine and Dine, long run training week six is six and a half miles. For marathon weekend it is up to seven miles. Marathon weekend now, 22 weeks away. But, as with all the others, it won't be long before it's here, gang. This is when I usually turn and say hey, how's training going? You got any?

Speaker 9:

training stories you want to share with us. I do, Bob. I have to tell this story and it's a very short one.

Speaker 6:

Let's go.

Speaker 9:

I've never felt so honored. So I went to the gym and the app wasn't working for me to check in. I said, hey, I'm so sorry it's not working. Is there any way? Is there anything I need to do?

Speaker 9:

I'm so sorry and they're like you come here all the time, you're good. And I just thought I come here all the time and he's like, yeah, you come every day. I was like, huh, I'm doing a good thing. I I had to do it because I had to say this, because I've never I felt so proud, like I will say, in college, apparently, I found out towards the end of my freshman year that the people in the cafeteria that were like in my dorm area apparently they knew me as the pasta girl. After I found that out, I stopped getting pasta because because I realized I do go every day, but this one I feel proud of.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, don't stop going to the gym.

Speaker 9:

As I eat pasta during this interview.

Speaker 6:

I thought you were going to say you're eating pasta at the gym, but you're eating pasta while you're recording. That's fine. That's fine, alicia, go ahead.

Speaker 8:

hon I have something kind of along the same lines of like feeling proud about you're eating pasta too well, yeah, I did have pasta for the win.

Speaker 8:

There you go, don't even you're killing me here, greg when I was on my vacation, I consistently did my runs in my workouts and I was really proud of myself. But while I was doing them there was a gal that was there every single day that I was, I would see her out when I was doing my runs. I would see her in the gym and every day we'd like look at each other and kind of give us each other a smirk, like oh yeah, good job, you're doing it too. So it's kind of along the same lines as Jack, like it's this little check-in. So it's like, okay, this is a win.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, Good stuff. How about our friends Devin and Kristen? What's up next for you guys?

Speaker 1:

So I have Halloween and then I have New York after that.

Speaker 6:

Oh, yes, you're well into a training program. Yeah, so you're well into a training program.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'm a little nervous, but yeah, it's okay. I have to do 16 this weekend, I think.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, or.

Speaker 1:

I might do it Friday. I like to get my long runs done on a Friday, if I can.

Speaker 6:

Oh, that's cool, Hot where you are.

Speaker 1:

Yes, it's been. They said it was like record-breaking July heat, so there was like two weeks where it was like 112. It was just, it's like, puts me in the worst mood it's so bad and we're complaining over here. Well, but you guys have humidity. So I mean I guess we have a little bit, but it's not, you know.

Speaker 6:

Well, everybody has a little bit, but yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 6:

Wow, but 112, I mean 112 on the thermometer. You can have your dry heat. That's bleeping hot.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and that's the thing when you get in the car and you're running the AC, you're still sweating Like it's not doing anything. So we tried to escape for a few days here and there, but it's just, it's miserable.

Speaker 2:

I like to live like a vampire, like I close my curtains, you know, and pretend that it's winter outside, but yeah, you just gotta wait out in september but I gotta say, kristin, you are a poster child for someone who really embraces that idea of, on your long runs, taking it slower at a conversation pace, because I'm always impressed by the amount of voice memos you send me while you're on your run.

Speaker 2:

You know, as opposed to text typing, and you're doing a, you know, I mean sure, like there's a little bit of like, you know, heavy breathing, but nothing insane that you're able to put together these coherent thoughts and everything like that. So so bravo to you, and it goes to show that conversational pace for your long training runs is really, really important yeah, yeah, you know, just sending all my clients like heavy breathing voice messages.

Speaker 1:

It's not weird at all. Um, that's how I try to keep it like. Slow and boring is I don't listen to podcasts or I'll. It's like my time to catch up with all my friends, so I send them. I quote, I joke, it's my podcast I'm sending to you for like three minutes straight on how my week went or something like that. But yeah, I just keep them slow and boring and I save all my favorite podcasts, like you guys, until Saturdays and just get it done.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, no, that's a good way. Anything that, anything that distracts you or keeps your mind off of oh my god, it's hot and I've got 12 miles to go is helpful, so I think that's a that's a good idea.

Speaker 7:

I am training for the half marathon at wine and dine and then I plan to do a local, either Turkey trot or another half marathon. Squeeze that in before marathon weekend and then I'm up for dopey Number three yeah.

Speaker 9:

Same girl, same. We'll see each other all four days, yes, all four early mornings.

Speaker 7:

No kidding, yeah, but four early mornings.

Speaker 6:

No kidding, yeah, but I love it. I love it. It's a great challenge and I'm happy to do it. I'll just throw out there.

Speaker 6:

I got out this morning 83 degrees, 77 degree dew point. I looked at my long range forecast where I live, right here in Largo, Florida, For the next 10 days, at no time is the temperature forecast to get below 82. Not at three in the morning, not at six in the morning. 82 is the coldest supposed to be for the next 10 days and probably longer than that. So hey, look, I like it here. I'm happy to run here. I'm happy to do it.

Speaker 6:

I go out and I do what we've talked it here. I'm happy to run here. I'm happy to do it. I go out and I do what we've talked about here. I go easy. I went out this morning. It's tough but I can get it done. So that's my advice Just take it easy. It's the same advice I've had for the last. Let's see, we're on training week six. It's the same advice for the last five weeks. Then it'll be the same advice for the next 18. Just go easy. I guess if there is a silver lining for parts of the country, August is sometimes the last really hot month. So you're not far from September, we're not far from football season. Things start to cool off a little bit.

Speaker 3:

My training update over here. Um, for the weight loss accountability challenge that we're doing for the month of August. Um, not, we're still doing a step challenge. Um, I realized that getting 10,000 steps was harder in July than I thought it was going to be because life happened. But we're keeping the 10,000 steps and I've got it for the past couple days, so I'm proud about that. And we're doing a sleep challenge to make sure. I mean.

Speaker 6:

I think it's a great idea.

Speaker 3:

A lot of people don't get enough sleep. No, and I'm one of them. And, fun fact, if you're a runner, you are supposed to get one minute of sleep added to each night for every mile you do for the week. Oh, boy so if you run 15 miles for the week, add 15 minutes to each night.

Speaker 6:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

Jack's thinking about how long she's gonna have to sleep when she has a one-person yeah, I know literally, I was like I had a long week past two weeks.

Speaker 7:

I have bags underneath the math, mathing yes yep, yep hey, do you guys remember?

Speaker 2:

I I can't remember what expo this was, but remember when they had the sleepy challenge shirt yeah, oh yeah oh yeah, I think becky has one.

Speaker 6:

I think, okay, I think she does.

Speaker 3:

Um, yeah, I think it's a great idea, although I gotta admit when I first heard it I thought, well, I can do that yeah but I mean, there's a lot for legit there's a lot of people that they struggle to get enough sleep, and especially when we're running as many miles as we're running, you know it's going to aid in recovery and heart rates and all of that. So I think, especially as the miles start inching up over the next couple of months, it's going to be really important.

Speaker 6:

I could definitely get more sleep. I definitely would help me.

Speaker 10:

Even some of the new Garmin's actually track your sleep now. Oh yeah, they'll tell you you had six hours of sleep. It was interrupted, or not? So if you're into that. Look at those two.

Speaker 6:

No, Garmin's are good at it.

Speaker 3:

The smartwatches, like Apple and Galaxy, they'll do it too. The problem with theirs is the battery life isn't quite that long, so if you're going to wear it at night you got to plug it in some other time to track. Or I think there's an app that you can download on your phone now and then you just like. It doesn't track how restless you were or anything, but it can help measure how long you've been asleep.

Speaker 6:

Yeah.

Speaker 10:

Yeah, there are tools out there, for sure. It even tracks your naps now too.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 6:

Hey, breaking news, Not really breaking news. It was a couple days ago. Springtime surprise themes were announced. I thought they were okay. What did we think of them?

Speaker 3:

oh my gosh, I love them so much I love them so much, I'm so excited I've never been so disappointed, oh.

Speaker 6:

Oh my.

Speaker 2:

I was going to say I've never seen such polarizing thoughts on a race weekend before, and the last 30 seconds just proved that.

Speaker 9:

Here's why I'm so disappointed in the fact that I was planning on not doing it.

Speaker 3:

Oh Okay, now I feel like I'm being forced to oh my goodness because I will say, for as long as I have known jack, she is one of the hercules themed race. Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 9:

I'm literally going to just be going out there for just the 10k. I want to do the 5k and 10k, but okay, later story on why I think all right, devin, devin, kristin.

Speaker 6:

Any comments on the themes?

Speaker 9:

I'm with you with hercules 100 I wish he was a 10 miler. Why do they have to put like a pixar movie as like 10 miler every single time? Besides last year? I'm just kind of like disney. Okay, you know hercules is going to be the biggest, so put it to the 10 miler.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, why is he not the challenge? He should be the challenge, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Go the distance.

Speaker 1:

Right there, it's like things write themselves for Ren Disney and Ren Disney is like Like punking us at this point, yeah.

Speaker 9:

Yeah, fantastic themes, though I mean to have Big Hero 6, I love Big Hero 6, and to have them as the challenge medal. I almost wish that, actually, that they were one of the distance medals and the Incredibles were as the challenge medal, because you're incredible for doing the entire event.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, you know what that too, and it's so family oriented. So if they had the whole incredibles family as like the challenge? Because, it's all about the people who share in the running experience with you yeah, and I mean zero to hero.

Speaker 9:

10 miler, that has a zero in it too zero to hero zero here just shooting darts and seeing like it also drives me crazy that they keep putting the marvel ones for the 5k.

Speaker 10:

Yeah yeah, I think he's the same.

Speaker 2:

It's groot I was fixing to say groot's the same for disneyland yes, baby groot, and then yeah, so this was the point that I was going to bring up. Is I remember when we discussed Disneyland themes?

Speaker 11:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I can't remember which one of you ladies it was on that on that episode said you know that there was like a rumor out there or something like that, that the Disneyland themes were like a rejected springtime surprise theme. And obviously we have carryovers now between you know, obviously, group with the five K and then now grant, obviously Baymax is the challenge. Where in Disneyland Baymax is yoga, I think, or something like that. So, so that theory is a little more plausible, but I mean, put me in the camp that I'm in love with. It could probably do without the incredibles, um but, again.

Speaker 2:

As much as I talked in the last couple of episodes about how much I loved san francisco at dca, I am beyond thrilled that baymax is uh is, the challenge. I almost kind of wish that baymax was a different race so I didn't have to do the challenge. But I'm excited. And why I'm also even more excited now for this race weekend is it was all going to be about the theme, about whether or not I was going to do it, and I was in the car with my daughter when the themes dropped and I showed them to her and her heart melted when she saw Baymax. But then she got just as excited when she saw Groot and she turned to me and she's like daddy, I want to run this race with you and she hasn't said that since we, since we did the Coco 5k and Wine and Dine.

Speaker 2:

So she said she's going to train with me and that she's not going to give me a hard time at waking up at two 30 in the morning and I was like miss Becky's not going to be there with donuts this time. But yeah, so so count. So count me and my daughter in for a for a springtime surprise this year.

Speaker 6:

Now Becky will be at the parks but she will not be doing the five K this time. I'll be there. I'm doing them all. Come on the 5k. This time I'll be there. I'm doing them all. Come on, you know that. And the themes it's funny. I don't know there's not been a theme that I said I have to go to and there's not been a theme where I've said, oh, I'm not going because of that theme. I I think they're fun when they come out, I look forward to them, like everybody else. But I don't get the same visceral reaction of oh boy, I have to do this one.

Speaker 9:

but that'd be fun and I'm sure we'll be excited when we see the medals too now I will just put out a similarity, greg, and put a put a pin on what you said earlier about group, with baby group and adult group. So I'm taking this as a um, gotta catch them all. Uh, so you have the group, you have adult group. Now we just need teenage group and the metal can be the game boy.

Speaker 2:

That's a good pull. That's a good pull, Jay.

Speaker 6:

Oh golly.

Speaker 2:

All right, so based on everything. So, Alicia, you're in right. Yep, All right. Jack's in, Bob's in, I'm in, I'm in john not, probably not no devin kristin lexi I don't know.

Speaker 3:

I wish y'all could see my face, because and here's, here's my thing we're going to japan in march slash april, so we're like flight tracking right now.

Speaker 6:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

So I don't know when the trip is going to be.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, and that's more important.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it's one of those things like I want to really bad, but one I don't want to pay double the price for doing a different weekend, like for flights strictly Right, of course, of course. Yeah. And then there's also like well, would I want to go to Japan, like the week before the race? Or like planning out training-wise too. There's so many thoughts in my head.

Speaker 2:

Lexi, you got to do it because if you make it over to tokyo, I could do back to back well, well, not only that, and it probably would help with your jet lag there would.

Speaker 2:

but in tokyo, disneyland, um, their version of like maters and like alien swirling saucers is baymax, and apparently there's like this cult following over there of that ride where, like people come and just stand at the ride all day and sing the songs and there's like synchronized dances. So you could do that and then come over and then lead us all in a dance. You know, when we all get our challenge medals, it'll be, it'll be fantastic.

Speaker 3:

We could choreograph this Exactly so. Yeah, so when we all get our challenge medals, it'll be fantastic.

Speaker 2:

We could choreograph this Exactly so when we're done recording, go YouTube Baymax Happy Ride and you'll see the craziness that goes on over there with that ride.

Speaker 9:

And Lexi, I totally get where you're coming from, because the reason why I wasn't going to even be doing this weekend was because I'm looking at a race out in China and so I'm kind of like, oh really.

Speaker 6:

Jack.

Speaker 9:

Yeah, so I am waiting to see how this fall goes, but I am looking at doing one of the hardest races in the world.

Speaker 9:

Great wall Marathons. Yep, that's going to be the great wall marathon and I just want to see if I can financially finagle it, and I think I might be able to. I just want to see if I can financially finagle it, and I think I might be able to. I just have to. It just depends on work a little bit, but like that's why I'm like I want to do the whole freaking weekend. Yeah, I, because I love the theme so much, but I can't justify taking time off. I can justify one night stay, a one night stay to be able to go.

Speaker 3:

I mean, there's also the other factor of like the price increase and yeah, like this hercules yeah, I'd do anything for herc well see, you know, I feel like it's one of the biggest price jumps we've seen in one year, I think.

Speaker 9:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

The challenge raising $25. But, like honestly, if they had kept it at $499, it wouldn't seem as big of a deal Sounds better, doesn't it? Yeah, it's $517.

Speaker 2:

I was looking at it the other day. I think, if you compared the Springtime Surprise Challenge versus Goofy, goofy is cheaper. Now I understand it's three races as opposed to two, but think about all the more logistics that goes into putting on the half and the full as opposed to, you know, the other three shorter races. Um, yeah, so I'm intrigued by that. But you know some working theories that you know I had seen online via social media with friends. Is that number one? Maybe they're trying to start the price people out, because I mean, think about our springtime surprise recap from this past year. What was the huge thing we talked about during the 10 miler? And that was the disaster of how crowded.

Speaker 2:

The course was especially with corral B. So maybe they're trying to maybe lessen the number of slots. But still, you know, hit their profit margins or something like that. So, but we'll, we'll never know. Still, you know, hit their profit margins or something like that, so, but we'll, we'll never know. But you know it's, it's fun to speculate sometimes.

Speaker 11:

Yeah.

Speaker 6:

Well, regardless, registration is three weeks from the day of recording, 19 days from the day of release, august 27th, that's for mainstream, august 20th for you, run Disney folks, run Disney Club, run Disney folks. So here we are. We haven't gone to the first race of this season and we're already talking about registering for the last race of the season.

Speaker 3:

That's crazy.

Speaker 6:

That's just the way it goes.

Speaker 10:

Yeah, I'm trying to plan for next year's races. I want to know what the schedule is going to be.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, the schedule should announce in September, October, doesn't it usually?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's going to be the intriguing thing. Usually, they always announce the schedule at Wine and Dine, but now that Halloween is the first race of the season, are they going to drop the news then?

Speaker 10:

Yeah, because I'm curious about Wine and Dine. Are they going to have the 5K on Halloween?

Speaker 3:

Or is it going to be the next weekend?

Speaker 2:

I think it's going to be the next weekend.

Speaker 6:

Well, we'll see. We'll see. I mean the Expo's on Halloween this year, so we'll see. All right, let's move on a little bit. Friends, that was fun. Hey, we have our guests here this evening Devin and Kristen. They've been with us before on several occasions, but let's remind folks. Maybe you haven't heard them before or are new to this. Devin, kristen, let's start. You are so active and a bunch of run Disney things.

Speaker 1:

Let's start with your Facebook group, dopey Strong, and tell us a little bit about it and remind our friends of what the mission statement, my local friends here, and it's when I ran the 2018 Dopey Challenge and I had posted on my Facebook status like way back you know, when you still updated your status like in all caps, like that was amazing, who's gonna run it with me next time for the 30th anniversary? And whoever responded yes. I made like a little Facebook group for, and I think I just called it, dopey 2023. And then, when everyone registered in 22, people like random people started joining and so then I just changed it to Dopey Strong, but I had to keep the heart emojis because you know.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, yeah, why not?

Speaker 1:

And so now we have about 2000 people in the group and it's just really fun. You don't have to be a necessarily a dopey runner to be in the group. We just, I kind of think of it as like dopey, as a mindset, you know.

Speaker 6:

So, for whatever distance, is like dopey to you, then that's great.

Speaker 1:

And, yeah, everyone's super kind and we like to think of like group costumes. Together we do our monthly Zooms and we just post silly things. I like to call them my gummy bears, so it's just a positive, just like your Facebook group. We're a little positive corner of the internet.

Speaker 6:

Another lovely and I say that word wholeheartedly lovely lovely run Disney family. Yes, yeah, and that continues to go well, that's good. Greg, you wanted to ask a question, I believe.

Speaker 2:

You know. So, speaking of the Dopey Strong Facebook group, you know, just the other week the two of you announced a special event that you're going to be hosting during Marathon Weekend. Can you share the details of what you're going to be hosting during marathon weekend? Can you uh share the details of uh what you're going to be doing?

Speaker 1:

So well, it's been a little dream of ours, you know, since we birthed our run fit fab child together, um, uh, to have some sort of a big event. Um, I think as trainers and run coaches, we've like thought that that's like the ultimate thing we could ever do. So our run it started with RunFitFab, you know, in terms of announcing it, but we're going to host a pop-up on January 10th, friday, after the 10K, from 12 to 2 at the Swan and Dolphin, and we are going to start it off with a very gentle core and mobility activation. I don't want anyone to think that it's going to be this super intense core workout and you're going to be sore. We're going to just let everything kind of warm up for the race weekend. That's going to be from like 12-ish to 1230.

Speaker 1:

Then from 1230 to one, we have a super FBI top secret. We're not telling anyone what's going to happen until 1230 on that day, but we really think you guys and everyone will like it. And then we have this weird open slot from like one to like 130. And you know, we were runners and we really like to talk about running. So I don't know, we were kind of thinking maybe if you guys were available to kind of come and maybe film a podcast or what, what, what a crazy idea.

Speaker 13:

Yeah, I don't know, what you guys think. Are you free?

Speaker 6:

I'm in. I'm in. Yeah, it's tough to convince me. I'm in.

Speaker 3:

I'll let my people call your people.

Speaker 1:

Okay, perfect. Yeah, let us know what your fee is to make appearances and we'll figure it out. I can provide churros and Dole Whips.

Speaker 2:

The Lord's Carbs.

Speaker 3:

As long as I have an autographed line.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yes, yeah, of course, Of course, and your cameo fee, whatever. That is Right, but we are working on a massive like goodie bag for everybody. We have Element, scratch Goo, good To Go Bars, salt Stick and Runway as sponsors. So far, but yeah, so you guys are going to come and we're and honestly, when Devin and I were talking about this in the beginning, you guys were the first people I you know like that we thought about. We're like we should definitely get them involved.

Speaker 1:

Um, because well you guys and your people have like the same heart and soul when it comes to running as our people. So same vibes your people call our people.

Speaker 6:

If you haven't figured it out, friends, we're, we're playing here. We've known about this. We've had a couple of planning meetings and I'm excited about it, guys, I am, it's fun. You're right, it's the same core group of people. It's the same core group of friends, same attitude, and I'm really honored that you asked us. It's fantastic.

Speaker 7:

We're honored to be your 150th episode.

Speaker 6:

There you go. Thank you for that too.

Speaker 2:

All right. So, to summarize everything, we have a small activation workout, then it's the double secret probation surprise and then a collaborative effort between run fit fab and the rise around podcast, a live podcast recording that. We will figure out the logistics and get it onto our feeds as quickly as possible. This sounds super exciting, devin, give us the details in terms of now. You know, chris and I already said it's happening from 12 to 2 on Friday, january 10th. Where is it going to be located and is there a cost associated with it? Yeah, so is it going to be located and is there a cost associated with it?

Speaker 7:

Yeah, so it's going to be on Disney property. It's going to be at the Walt Disney, swan and Dolphin Resorts. We'll be able to show more once we get further along with how many people will be there. So, yeah, you can sign up online on eventbritecom and it's $25 a ticket per person and we can share links in the Dopey Strong group on your guys' Facebook.

Speaker 7:

We'll share them yeah absolutely, and then we'll share it in our bios on Instagram as well as Kristen's website, runfitfab. All those people will get separate links again as well. But yeah, we're really excited. We've already gotten 200 people to sign up. Yeah, and we haven't like officially announced it yet, but, like Kristen said, there's going to be goodie bags. We have a lot of sponsors. It's going to be super fun. Everyone is welcome to join. You don't necessarily have to be a part of Dopey Strong or our Run Fit Fab programs. If you're just a bystander and want to come with someone who's running one of the races, a family member, a friend, bring whomever. We highly encourage everyone to come because, like Kristen said, it's just going to be a fun fitness hangout with like-minded people who enjoy running and racing together.

Speaker 9:

Is there like a limit on how many people can attend?

Speaker 1:

Our first limit is 300. Our second limit is 500. So we're hoping to hit that second limit, just because I think that would be pretty epic to say. But yeah, as of right now, we have about a hundred tickets left up for grabs and basically the reason why, the only reason we're putting a price on it, is because super top secret things we wanted to do, that we wanted to make the experience really really memorable and be really good, like photo opportunities for everyone to meet everyone, and so we just asked a little bit of a cost in the ticket so that way we could provide all of those things, and we think you guys are really going to like it.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, the workout specific for everyone there too.

Speaker 6:

Alicia charges 15 for a photo with her. So right there, you know that's a good start.

Speaker 10:

Because she has to buy all those margaritas. Bob, that's right.

Speaker 3:

I have to pay for it somehow.

Speaker 7:

But we also plan to have merchandise fun, other things, and then obviously we'll want to meet and greet everybody as well as take a big group photo. So just make sure to show up a little bit ahead of time, especially if you want a good spot. We do not encourage running to get in line.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, exactly, save that for the races. But yeah, no, we think it'll be super fun to meet new faces, see familiar faces, get to know a lot of your community as well. I think it's a super great and positive blend of people. So we appreciate you guys even wanting to do this with us. We're honored.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, sounds fantastic. Out the logistics of getting over to. You know this, you know the Swan and Dolphin itself. So again, you know, I'm sure we'll probably come up with creative maps and Facebook posts and stuff like that. But I mean, obviously you know, if you're going to Epcot or Hollywood studios and taking the Skyliner. You know, as we know from you know the some of the 10k courses you know, we know where, you know where those hotels are and what they're accessible from, so we'll be sure to work on that as well too.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, We'll definitely post some maps eventually so everyone will know right where to go. Or if anyone has any questions, they can DM us.

Speaker 6:

Exciting stuff and more to come. I don't think either of us mentioned that we will. We plan to have merchandise there for sale also. Uh, you have your, your zippity teas.

Speaker 7:

yes, maybe plus some other things that will be brewing and yeah, and we'll see.

Speaker 6:

We'll see what we've got in inventory. Now that our inventory is in florida, I get to drive it over. I know Becky's very excited about that.

Speaker 10:

Along with the cookies, bob yeah along with the cookies.

Speaker 3:

At this rate, Bob, you may need to get a trailer hitch to get to Disney World. You're right.

Speaker 6:

I might. I might, Lexi. That's a good point. Well, that's fun. More to come. We'll keep everybody up to date as we learn more and we get more news on that. That's exciting.

Speaker 3:

And just to recap really quick where do we go to get tickets and how much are they?

Speaker 1:

So the tickets are 25. It's on Eventbrite and we'll post it in your Facebook group, our Facebook group, and then on Instagram. We'll save it on there too.

Speaker 3:

We know that, as we're in the midst of training for Halloween and Wine and Dine and Marathon and Princess and all the other race weekends that we're all doing, you guys also have different training programs to help us hit those different goals, and some of them are starting really soon. So what programs do you have and what makes them so unique? What don't we?

Speaker 7:

have.

Speaker 13:

I know.

Speaker 1:

You know, what's funny is I was just when you said that, um, we started with Run Fit Fab Dopey and then people were like, okay, but what do we do during the summer? And so then that's how when summer started. But so starting on September 1st, we have Run Fit Fab Dopey, and that is for anyone running marathon weekend. You don't have to be doing specifically dopey, we just love the name. Run Fit Fab Dumbo if you're doing anything at Disneyland, and then we have Dopey to Dumbo If you're crazy and doing your coast to coast in January. That would be the plan for you. And every program has three days of strength training and also that varies. Like, if we're getting really close to Dobie weekend, um, you know, obviously the strength will change a little bit. Um, and then we do all of our runs together. Um, devin and I come up with different speed workouts or long run suggestions and things like that. We include warmup videos, cool down videos, core videos suggestions and things like that.

Speaker 7:

We include warmup videos, cool down videos, core videos mobility videos, all the videos, and what's really fun is like you get to interact with us personally as coaches via the true coach app. So that's something really unique to our programs. Um, the ones that Kristen mentioned all of them start on September 1st, which is coming up really soon.

Speaker 2:

What's also fun is you get to interact with you to indirectly as well too, because I was doing before I got myself hurt with my calf issue from a few weeks ago. I was doing the core challenge in honor of Captain America and I can't remember what move you were doing, kristen, but I was indirectly cursing your name several times because my hiney was hurting and it was burning like you wouldn't believe. So these two ladies are going to put you to work, that's for sure.

Speaker 7:

You can't get America's ass by sitting on it. Yeah.

Speaker 13:

I like that.

Speaker 1:

Literally, butt workouts are my absolute favorite. Literally, butt workouts are my absolute favorite. And when I only trained in person before COVID, we would joke that it would be like butt stuff Friday because, like I, that's my favorite kind of workout. And so when I filmed those videos, people would respond and they're like you're not even sweating. I'm like, oh, that's because I take breaks or I edit out anytime I've like cursing myself. So good job to you and your butt.

Speaker 2:

I'm trying to remember I was cursing your name and then I think I said something about like how are you doing this in the puffy vest, or something like that. As I was, like you know, just like dripping sweat all over my workout mats.

Speaker 1:

A lot of times I'm so happy you guys can't smell me, because a lot of times I'll just like do my run and then I'm like, oh, this would be a great time to film like a 10 minute video and then just do it in whatever I've been running in.

Speaker 2:

So I can't wait for run fit fab version 3.0, where it includes smell-o-vision then.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, oh God, scratch. And sniff. That would be terrible. So, along with all of our programs we do, like Greg was saying, we have 30 day programs. So we have a core challenge, we have a glute challenge. We have, you know, perfect for springtime. We have Mrs Incredible Mobility Challenge. Oh, and Hercules, we did an arm challenge too. So that's all available.

Speaker 7:

A lot of those 30-day ones too, are quick, short workouts every day. So if you don't have time to fit in a longer workout or you're taking a day off of a run, you can focus on one of those. If your main goal is to help with mobility flexibility, there's a program for that. Or if it's integrating more core strength, we have a program for that, and you can also mix and match and it really integrates really well together.

Speaker 1:

One thing I really like, too, is you can submit form, check videos, and my favorite is when people are telling me their life story but also lunging at the same time and I'm like tell me, yeah, tell me about your neighbor you got in a fight with. Like I want to hear more about this. So that is really nice too.

Speaker 10:

So, besides the Run Fit Fab program, the two of you work really well together and you've extended your brand now to have a podcast. How do you guys get started with the Run Fit Fab podcast?

Speaker 7:

Honestly, it was just another brainchild where I think we just like slid into each other's DMs once again and we were just like you know what else would be really fun and worthy of just five extra minutes of our time per week? Yeah, so we just started Five minutes. Yeah, like 50 minutes more or less, and then the editing. You guys know how it goes, but you know know, we just like chatting with each other and it's just a fun way to like catch up. We usually talk for an hour at least beforehand with each other and just you know, chat about life and coffee and workouts and disney, obviously. So we just thought why not record it? And we just hope a lot of people feel like they're just sitting down drinking their water after a run or during a run with us and that's all we wanted to put out there, and where can we get that?

Speaker 7:

podcast. Right now it's only on Spotify. I am new to this so I don't know how to upload things to other apps. I'm a millennial, so, yeah, figuring it out slowly, but we are growing. I mean, we have quite a few listeners, obviously not as big as you're following, but we do have a lot of people who are like, oh, I listened to Rise and Run and then we listened to you guys and it's so nice to have on those long runs and you know it's, it's nice when you have to take those easy runs. Easy, because I find that listening to a podcast really helps, especially when you're chatting or listening with someone that you know and understand what they're going through. It's just really relatable and that's all we really want it to be. It's endearing for us and we love the response so far.

Speaker 6:

It is something we mentioned earlier that when you're on your run, if something can distract you just a little bit, take your mind off it. And podcasts are good at that, and I have listened to your podcast. Now. You took a little break and so I kind of got out of the habit, but it's fun and it is exactly what you said it is and I know you didn't say it, but I know what you're thinking hey, if those rise and run idiots can do that, we, we can make a podcast. Come on, how hard can it be?

Speaker 1:

It was, honestly, honestly, more selfish than anything else, because it's a time we can get together and just chat and, you know, shake our fists at race weekend themes or praise the race weekend themes yeah, yeah, it's a, it's a fun thing and you do a good job of it, and yes I I love going the pooh's Corner.

Speaker 7:

Who doesn't?

Speaker 5:

We did bring that back this week just so you guys know, yes, we had some good ones.

Speaker 7:

That's having a revival moment, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Okay, can I ask you guys a Pooh's Corner question, the same question that we answered for each other on our podcast this week.

Speaker 6:

Of course.

Speaker 1:

Okay. So if you had to run the marathon but you could only eat a turkey leg, a churro or a Dole Whip as your fuel, what would you pick?

Speaker 6:

I would pick the churro.

Speaker 3:

Y'all are going to hate me, but I don't like any of those things.

Speaker 7:

Wow, what would you pick then? As far?

Speaker 1:

as just any Disney snack.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you have to pick a Disney snack, then An ice cream bar yeah, you have to pick a disney snack, then an ice cream bar.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, I would pick a mickey premium bar okay, my first thought was the dole whip, because I love dole whip, but then I thought about it logically and I would choose the churro, because I'm also a vegetarian.

Speaker 3:

So the turkey legs out oh yeah, that, yeah, that doesn't work but see you all, you kind of have to think about it like. I feel like, as far as fuel goes, the turkey leg would probably last you longer with the way your body.

Speaker 13:

But that's a lot of protein too.

Speaker 3:

It's a lot of protein.

Speaker 10:

You'll be, feeling it like mile 10.

Speaker 6:

You really want the carbs on the run. That's why I was going for it.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, the carbs and the sugar is what I was thinking with the trail.

Speaker 2:

I can barely eat a banana properly while running let alone a turkey leg.

Speaker 6:

I'm not saying I'd do it.

Speaker 10:

You can always use the Disney turkey leg to beat your way through the crowd.

Speaker 6:

There you go.

Speaker 1:

Guys. I'm feeling a challenge coming up, I feel like we might have to test it out.

Speaker 2:

For me, I would say Dole Whip, because, even though, thinking along the lines of Alicia in terms of logistics, it could get sticky after a while At least, it's cold and with the marathon, especially those miles after Animal Kingdom, you need something cold and refreshing. So yeah, I'll go Dole Whip.

Speaker 9:

I think, due to some dairy issues, would probably be not great during the marathon for me, so I'm actually not Dole Whip right away.

Speaker 13:

Dole Whip is vegan.

Speaker 2:

It doesn't have dairy in it.

Speaker 3:

Huh.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, dole Whip is vegan. Her eyes, okay.

Speaker 2:

Well, you have to make sure Breaking news to Jack.

Speaker 8:

Sometimes I mix it jack regular ice cream, but like the original dough are dairy-free, oh okay.

Speaker 9:

Well, regardless, I'm not taking that chance. So I churro, because it has sugar in it and that would just be like woohoo yeah I think the eat for running would be the churro.

Speaker 6:

Let me ask a question here. I'm piggybacking off of this. I've never had the turkey leg.

Speaker 1:

It's good, it's heavy so you're going to Halloween, right, Bob?

Speaker 6:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Try the turkey leg from Pixar Pier by the Incredicoaster I feel like that's way better, because it's like smoked and it's not greasy.

Speaker 6:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

So just a little.

Speaker 10:

The one I had in the American, what's it? The American Pavilion was smoked too. So I don't know. I don't know if they're different in different parts. I never had one at Magic Kingdom, I had one in Epcot.

Speaker 8:

Who did? Disneyland is just better in general, but Agreed.

Speaker 3:

Really quick is just better in general. But yeah, I agree, really quick note, though but you mentioned halloween food and did y'all see the food that has been released for mickey's? Not so scary this year no oh, my goodness it look. There's like there's like gaol burgers and like it's crazy. There's so much stuff.

Speaker 3:

Go look at the disney food block and there's like every single dining location that's in the magic kingdom has a different like halloween themed food and everything looks amazing and I need a tasting partner to go with me so that I can try more things. Is it just for the party or?

Speaker 7:

is it?

Speaker 3:

yeah, yeah, it's just for the party Okay.

Speaker 2:

Well, Bob, you're one of those really smart people that bought tickets for the Halloween party the night before the 5K.

Speaker 11:

Oh, and Lexi too.

Speaker 2:

There you go, so we'll make it a rise and run event for all of you crazy people who are staying up super late on Halloween for the Halloween party and then going straight to the 5K.

Speaker 6:

Oh, there are a bunch of rise and runners on Halloween night.

Speaker 6:

There Halloween party and then going straight to the 5K. Oh, there are a bunch of Rise and Runners on Halloween night. There's at least a dozen, yeah. So we're looking forward to that. Yeah, becky and I, every time we see the turkey, we kind of joke about it and I always say to her you know, there's a reason they sell so many of these, they must be okay. So I'm trying one, I'm trying one, I'm trying one. When I get out to Anaheim, I'm going to give it a shot.

Speaker 10:

I remember the old rumor there were ostrich legs. Someone said Because of the size.

Speaker 6:

I never heard that. I never heard that one Guys. All sounds wonderful. Thanks for sharing all that with us. Thanks for visiting hey while you're here. D23 is next week, I believe.

Speaker 2:

This weekend.

Speaker 6:

This coming weekend, so this weekend after the release of this episode. Anybody have predictions on what's going to come out of D23 this year?

Speaker 9:

They're going to keep dinosaurs.

Speaker 6:

I said predictions not wishes.

Speaker 8:

I think it's going to be quite the opposite, and I'm very sad about it. I am too.

Speaker 9:

I'm trying Alicia, I'm so trying Disney listen, I know.

Speaker 2:

It's okay. I've already placed an Amazon order. A box of Kleenex will be going to Alicia, John and Jack's houses on Saturday night, when the inevitable happens.

Speaker 8:

Thanks, Greg.

Speaker 10:

That was actually one of my things. My son got his picture taken in front of the dinosaur. Every year we went there Until he decided I'm too old for Disney and I'm not going anywhere.

Speaker 2:

Let's see in terms of a prediction, I think, oh the the one rumor I keep hearing over and over and over again is that magic kingdom will be getting a new nighttime parade. And if that gets announced, I will be super happy, and if they can figure out a way to do Spectro Magic 2.0 or something like that, I will be a giddy schoolgirl when that happens. So yeah, that's my prediction. Nighttime Magic Kingdom Parade.

Speaker 9:

I would love to see I know they talked about an expansion I would love to see a villain villains area. I predict they're going to announce a new park.

Speaker 2:

Really you think that, Jack?

Speaker 9:

I really do. They need to do something to combat Universal, and this is the only thing that I could think of that would top anything. No jack.

Speaker 2:

So my counter argument to you would be on why I don't think a fifth gate is going to get announced, is think about the lack of attractions that are at animal kingdom, epcot and hollywood studios. I think it's smarter for them to build out those three parks first before they open a fifth gate so here's a counter counter.

Speaker 9:

So here's why I think what I'm thinking is because they just revamped epcot. They're already revamping track, a test track. The animal kingdom got pandora. Yes, it needs more love, it's going to get more love, it's already been announced. And then if you go over to hollywood studios, I mean they already talked about doing something over where the little mermaid ride and launch bay was going to be. So I bet you there's probably going to be some announcement there, because it's basically a blank canvas. But the reason why I'm like they might announce a new park one, like I said, because of counteracting between what universal is doing, but two, over a decade ago they had plans for a villain's theme park yeah it was in the works.

Speaker 9:

It is extremely detailed and one thing I know about disney is they may not do it right way, but they'll put a pin in it. Well, that pin needs to be taken out and then remove that paper and start looking at it again, because this park over at universal it's otherworldly. I mean, you talk about the attractions that they made over at universal beijing, which I'm hoping to do if I get to go run the beijing marathon, since it's right there. So I watch the povs on those rides. They're some of the most spectacular things I've I've seen in attractions in a while. So disney needs to pump up their game because they're going to get left behind. And, as much as I love Disney, universal is playing and it's Disney's turn.

Speaker 10:

Yeah, I'm with Greg, they need to revamp some of the parks. I mean that Star Wars hotel, that area is probably going to be a new Star Wars ride or something like that, and still a lot of parts in Hollywood studio. It's kind of like that. I mean, I know it's a nice show, but the indie show takes up a lot of space where they could put a nice attraction in there.

Speaker 9:

But they're also relying too much on their IPs. They need to go back to the basics of what people love. About Epcot being the next tomorrow, of sorts, you know what I mean. But they keep putting IPs in there that don't really necessarily make sense. Like Moana, I love Moana, but does that water area make sense? Absolutely not. Even Devon's shaking her head, no. And then you got Frozen in Norway, which to me still doesn't make any sense. And then you go and you go to Dinosaur, dinosaur land, which they're taking out dinosaur, which I'm devastated about, but they could have replaced it with so much more something, so much more animal sense. But instead they're going to be putting it in kanto, which I am excited for, but they already have a bird show with Up, and so the only thing that I could think of that would be for Encanto would be an animal show.

Speaker 7:

I have ideas for Animal Kingdom, because that's my favorite part. The same girl, yes, jack.

Speaker 3:

Thank you.

Speaker 7:

So Avatar 2, they should do an overlay for Flight of Passage, like a new whole ambiance of Avatar 2, where it's more water-based.

Speaker 13:

That's my thoughts.

Speaker 7:

I don't know about a new ride, but then the Tree of Life making, unfortunately, a Bug's Life go away, but incorporating Zootopia and then taking what used to be Dinoland, making that more Zootopia city themed, because it is pretty hot pavement, we can make that into a cityscape. And then Encanto, if they do do the Casita, they could do a butterfly house or something.

Speaker 7:

Oh, and not get rid of Dinosaur, because I love Dinosaur too and Indiana Jones has his show in Hollywood studios and I hate that they keep taking things from other other parts yeah, yeah even star wars land, like I love star tours, but it's outside of star wars land, it's outside he's edge, like I did hear something that apparently and again I'm sorry, alicia that when they do gut dinosaur it actually will not be a carbon copy of Disneyland.

Speaker 2:

I mean, it will still be Indiana Jones, but it will be a brand new story. So I'm hoping that comes true. But actually one of the other predictions that's real hot and heavy. It actually goes off of something you said, devin, I think pandora 2. I never saw it, but that I think they are going to build something like that. But I think that's going in disney california adventure because obviously they've already announced the oh, that's right, you know the ride and you know, I think they were just essentially waiting for disneyland forward to to get um approved.

Speaker 2:

But actually devon, I think the one that you're gonna be really excited for I did hear this rumor as well is apparently between pandora and africa. There's an expansion plot and they're like saying that it's a coin flip between the expansion of pandora, or they expand africa and they put a lion king ride and I know how much of a lion king fan you are, but because apparently I guess paris might be getting the lion king ride, I did that too yeah, so yeah in the show.

Speaker 7:

I know people love the lion king show but it is kind of getting out I hate yeah, like a lot of things in animal kingdom.

Speaker 3:

It's time with time going along with the lion king theme, though they have mufasa, the new movie, coming out pretty soon so that could open up a little bit or be like oh, we're doing this movie, so let's do a lion king expansion well, let's also put this out there, though.

Speaker 9:

Live actions have not been going well for disney, I mean.

Speaker 2:

I think there's a reason why they're bringing lynn manuel miranda into. Yeah. So, uh, kristin, do you have any predictions, especially from, maybe, like the west coast? Uh, you know, since you're a west coast girl here well, number one on my list.

Speaker 1:

I hope they announce run disney paris coming back. Thank, you yes, that would be awesome. I'm hoping for some sort of like villains land, because I thought I heard a rumor that they've okayed, or there's an idea for a third park at disneyland, which I think. How cool would it be Like think of Stranger Things, like the upside down, but like a whole ruins like a dark castle and everything.

Speaker 1:

I mean I don't think that's ever going to happen. But I agree that they should start competing a little bit more hardcore with Universal and do something like that. I think would be really cool. And I don't know where I heard this rumor maybe maybe some people on TikTok or something about Cars Land going to Disney World. Oh gosh, but I don't like that, I don't like copy and pasting both parks. And then I also agree, I wrote Nighttime Parade at Disney World. But I'm hoping that for the 70th for Disneyland they bring back some sort of nighttime parade Like Paint the Night. Would be epic, but I don't know why they don't do that already.

Speaker 10:

Was there a rumor that Disney was going to put a Villains Land in Magic Kingdom behind?

Speaker 11:

There was. Yeah, they said that yeah.

Speaker 2:

Well, essentially what I've been hearing on podcasts and reading the message boards and stuff like that is that I think it is very likely that we will hear something about a villain's land, but actually it's interesting about they're thinking of two different locations for it. The first is in Magic Kingdom putting it in there, but then I also heard a rumor and to me this actually makes a ton of sense is actually putting it in there. But then I also heard a rumor and to me this actually makes a ton of sense Is actually putting it in Hollywood Studios and essentially Almost kind of making it Entirely indoors so that you always get the sense Of like darkness and, you know, like eerie feeling. So and apparently you know, maybe they could use, you know, start using like the shell of like the animation building, you know where, or I think an animation building, so Star Wars launch bay now and stuff so. But I mean, there's so many endless possibilities.

Speaker 2:

It's going to be Saturday night, is going to be super exciting. But I will say the one thing the one hopeful prediction that I have is that we will not hear the phrase blue sky, um, artwork for a phrase out of josh tomorrow's mouth, because I feel like. If they're like, hey you know, if they're using phrases like we're're thinking about this, I think people are going to jump on the stage of the Honda Center and revolt. I think we need concrete. This is happening, we're building it. This is the timeline, because if not, there's going to be pitchforks all up and down Anaheim. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

And also I mean at the same time, so many cool things were canceled because of COVID. Right same time so many cool things were canceled because of covid, yeah, and I mean disney is. They're slacking right now as far as bringing up new um and and I mean I'm also speaking to all of us who've been to disney 500 billion times like we need. We need some new stuff.

Speaker 6:

Well, we'll find out and we'll talk about it next week on episode 151.

Speaker 9:

Oh, we're going to have so much to talk about. It's not even going to be funny.

Speaker 3:

I know it's going to be great.

Speaker 9:

Oh, what if they did like a Shanghai or Tokyo Disneyland half marathon? I would be there for that.

Speaker 2:

We would all go bankrupt if that happened because, there's so many of us that would hop in a flight immediately if that happened oh easily I would cry all right, kids, it'll.

Speaker 6:

It'll be interesting, it'll be fun. We'll talk about it next week. Hey, friends, devin kristin, thank you for coming and helping celebrate Episode 150 with us. It's always a pleasure. How can our friends get in touch with you, how can they follow you, or what information that you have you'd like to share before we head out?

Speaker 7:

You can follow me at FitFabDopey. It used to be FitFabDisney.

Speaker 2:

I was going to ask you that because I was trying to look you up for some reason the other week. Yeah, and I was like wait, did she change this?

Speaker 7:

Kristen was the first person to text me and be like I can't find you. What did you do?

Speaker 7:

Well only because all those signs for the races will still say FitFabDisney, but that's okay. It is up for grabs, though, so I guess anyone can say it. You can find me there and you can sign up for our programs at runfitmamanet and, obviously, join in on Dopey Strong, the Facebook group. Post on every social media outlet website, our app, what have you? The links to our pop-up events, and, yeah, we're just really, we're just happy to be here. We're super excited.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, yep, we'll continue to plan Kristen. How about you?

Speaker 1:

I'm on Instagram at runfitmama and then my website is runfitmamanet and that's where all of our programs are listed, and if you guys ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Speaker 6:

And then you can also find me at Dopey Strong on Facebook group. Great, yeah, we'll have you back again in a while and we'll get back to the more traditional hey, what's some good nutrition ideas and what's some good training. But I just thought it'd be fun to have you along and part of the gang just chat for the week.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, of course, it's always awesome to be here in your nook, as we like to call it yes oh

Speaker 7:

and you can follow our podcast on spotify well, yeah podcast. We're still again.

Speaker 1:

We're new here you guys should come to poo's corner now that we've been to the nook several times, oh, we should totally interview them beautiful, beautiful all right thanks guys, we will thank you all right well, that was fun and I knew it would be so.

Speaker 6:

It's always a pleasure to visit with devon and kristin. All right, friends, there's news at the rise and run shop. John, you got an update for us.

Speaker 10:

Yes, so the rise and rush shop is up and running. We've been taking orders. We do now have our hats and visors in stock, so if you need a hat and visor, go over to the shop and order them. We do have the the foldable bags If you want a foldable bag for your running. That's our new items in there right now and coming up. Soon we will be having our pre-order for our new race shirts for the race season the tech shirts, and this year we are offering a cotton shirt. And some people asked about headbands. Uh, we decided we, some people asked about, uh, headband, so we put the poll out, figuring okay we might get some people interested and the results have been, uh, overwhelming surprising.

Speaker 10:

That's putting him mildly, yeah and I, so I think we'll be offering a rise and red headband for pre-sale also big shout out to to Abel for making that suggestion during our Patreon Zoom.

Speaker 2:

And yeah, based on the response, I think those will go like gangbusters.

Speaker 10:

I think Abel wants one too, I think.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I think he wants one too as well. Yeah.

Speaker 6:

I mean I was happy that he chimed in there. I appreciate all the suggestions, but I'm thinking, yeah, we might sell five. Wow Response was tremendous. So, yeah, we'll do that. All we're waiting on now and, heck for all I know, by the time this episode releases we may have this info. We're just waiting to hear back from our vendor, to get pricing and to get approval that they say, yeah, we can do the design that you want and the colors that you want, and then we'll have stuff up for pre-order. So we hope that'll be real soon.

Speaker 6:

I want to remind our friends that we are only what did I say? Five weeks away, four, four weeks away, god, four weeks away. It is, it is four weeks away, see, I can't remember back to the beginning of the episode. That's probably bad, but we are four weeks away from Disneyland. We will have a meetup Saturday 3 pm. It's in the downtown Disney area of Disney Springs. The exact location is in the Facebook group for future events. Saturday 3 pm. I'd love to see you there. Please try to get by. We'd just love to say hello. We'll be taking a group photo at 3.30, so we hope a bunch of you can make it. Greg, same weekend. Now You've got Bird in Hand. You've had some announcements here. You wanted to make Anything new on that front.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so just a few quick things on the Bird in Hand half marathon weekend.

Speaker 2:

An email went out on their listserv today that if you are interested in participating and you want one of their, or want to be guaranteed to get one of their race shirts of their, uh, or want to be guaranteed to get one of their race shirts, uh, you have to register by this Sunday, august 11th, uh, again, to be guaranteed the shirt.

Speaker 2:

And actually in the email they put a nice picture of the shirt that they're definitely changing up the design because, if I'm reading the shirt correctly, I think it looks like, uh, this year is the 15th anniversary of the burden hand half marathon.

Speaker 2:

So if you're interested, definitely go ahead and register for that and then, but if you also are already registered in our bird in hand community chat as part of our facebook group, I do have that google form just, you know, just trying to get head counts for how many people we can expect during the pizza and pasta party, uh, that the event does put on on friday night, the same evening as the 5k, and then also, and then also, more importantly, just getting the head count for the uh, the like late, super late lunch, early dinner that we do in conjunction with customized training and the Extra Mile podcast. We like to get a nice group together and we go to a restaurant about maybe 15, 20 minutes away from Bird in Hand. So we're just you know, so I can coordinate with the restaurant there. So if you're interested, find that Google form in the Bird in Hand community chat.

Speaker 6:

It's a great weekend. Find that Google form in the Bird in Hand community chat. It's a great weekend, friends. I mean Disneyland same weekend, but Bird in Hand is a great weekend. I hope those of you going enjoy it, and if you're still on the fence, head on out there. You won't be sorry. Next week, episode 151, amanda returns. Amanda, from once upon a marathon, will be with us to discuss the topic we were just talking about, d23, and what happened there. Uh, john, it's been a while since we've read a review. I think we've got a new one, though. Yes, we do.

Speaker 10:

We do have a new review. It's from our friend clinger crew. Real people who make a real difference. Thanks, rise and Run crew, for not only creating a wonderful episodes that make my long runs fly by, but also building an amazing community. I love your Disney Run meetups, zoom calls and social media engagement. I can't wait to see you soon at Disneyland Halloween Run media engagement. I can't wait to see you soon at Disneyland Halloween run.

Speaker 6:

That sounds great. Thank you so much for doing that. I think I know who that is, but I'm not going to speculate. And uh, that's great. But I, oh we always appreciate them. Friends, appreciate you taking the time. You don't have to appreciate you taking the time to leave those reviews. They mean a lot to us and we're happy to receive them.

Speaker 2:

And speaking of the reviews themselves, we are in the midst of our contest right now where we're going to be drawing three members at random to receive one of those awesome bags that John had just mentioned in our little shop update. So, again, in order to be eligible, you just got to leave us a review on Apple Podcast and we'll get you in the running, and that will go through this upcoming Monday, august 12th. So if you're interested, put a review in and then we will be randomly drawing them.

Speaker 6:

Okay, sounds like fun. Friends, it's time for the Race Report. The Race Report brought to you by our good friend Tom Stokes and stoked metabolic training, stokesfit slash, rise and run coaching, is the site to go to If you're interested in one-on-one training with Tom. Real quick, we sometimes talk about this at the front guys. Are you hanging in there with the summer challenge at all I'm doing?

Speaker 10:

the workouts every. Uh. Well, this friday I didn't do them because I had other stuff going on and I didn't get to it saturday, but I've been doing them, uh, you know, at least two, two times a week yep, yep, um, hey, look, look, this is a.

Speaker 6:

This is an audio podcast. I have calluses. I haven't had calluses since I was I was going to say for Army folks. I haven't had calluses since I made field grade, but that doesn't make much sense to most everybody else. But it's been a long time since I've had calluses on my head.

Speaker 10:

I've been using the gloves because I used to get them and either you know you start picking at them and it gets disgusting.

Speaker 6:

Yeah. Yeah, it's really. It's disgusting, but I'm proud of it, so I feel good it's been. It's been a benefit to me and I appreciate it yeah.

Speaker 10:

I really liked it. I mean, like I was doing a different type of workout before and this little change up in my routine my routine, I think, is really fun.

Speaker 6:

Yeah hey, greg, remember we talked about the racing sausages last week, yes, and we didn't know if they were the first.

Speaker 6:

Well, it turns out that they were racing okay yeah, they started back in the 90s and what I learned is that they started out as animated on the big screen and then they started doing the characters just on Sundays, so they didn't offer a firm. Oh, the racing sausages started on May 3rd 1993, nothing like that, but sometime in the early 90s the presidents were next. There are a bunch of character races, a whole lot more than I realized there were. There are places that I think uh, atlanta has the home depot race with the hammer and this, but I think the other more famous one, that we forgot about was the pierogies in pittsburgh.

Speaker 6:

Oh yes, yes, yeah, oh yes, yes, yes of mascot races throughout major league and minor league baseball I was just about ready to say.

Speaker 2:

One of my favorites is I mean, even though I'm not a phillies fan um. Pretty close to where I grew up, um is the triple a affiliate for the phillies, the lehigh valley iron pigs yeah and and they have a race that's got like a slice of bacon, uh, I think a rack of ribs a hot dog, a spiral ham and something else that is quite entertaining to watch the pork products race.

Speaker 6:

Huh, yes, yeah. Well, there you go. So I did the homework. I promised let's take a look at the race report. I'm going to go back actually now, over a week, because this one popped into our Facebook group right at the time we were recording last week, but I think this one's significant the Yankee Homecoming 5K in Newburyport, massachusetts. Brian and Brian's 10-year-old son, colby, raced this one. It's an evening race on a warm night, but Colby was a rock star for his first 5K. That's a PR, colby. He kept to run-walk intervals, took advantage of all the spectators and homeowners brought out their hoses to cool off the runners. Colby, 10 years old, 5k Congratulations, friends. Let's kick off Saturday in Pensauken, new Jersey, with the Loopy Looper distance event, a 12 and 24 hour ultra event. We had a bunch of friends running this one and we've invited a bunch of them here with us and I am going to ask them to introduce themselves. We're even going to start with this guy right here hi, my name is greg, first time long time.

Speaker 6:

Uh, thanks for having me on bob welcome, greg, welcome, glad you could make it hi, I'm heather good to see you, heather hi.

Speaker 13:

Hi, I'm Brianna.

Speaker 6:

Brianna's here.

Speaker 12:

Hi, I'm Leah. Hi, this is Tom. I'm the president and currently the only member of the Greg Fan Club.

Speaker 2:

Oh my God, is that Tom from? We'll Run For.

Speaker 12:

It is.

Speaker 2:

I didn't know I had a fan club. This is exciting. There you go.

Speaker 6:

So it is true that the Greg Fan Club meets in a phone booth. True, this is Erin, I am the patriarch of the Will Run For podcast Not the matriarch, I am the patriarch. A reference from the last time Erin and the Will Run For.

Speaker 13:

Absolutely.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, Absolutely Well, gang. Thank you so much for joining us. I'm about to lose control, I think, but I hope I'll like it and tell us about the Loopy Looper Go.

Speaker 2:

All right. So I think the best way to describe this race and this weekend is do you remember when Bill Hader was on SNL and he would do the Stefan character during weekend update about all the different clubs? Let me tell you, Loopy Looper had everything. It had temperatures in the 90s, it had real feels in the 102s, it had dew points in the upper 70s and it had torrential rain, thunder and lightning. So if you love all of those things, you're going to love.

Speaker 6:

Loopy Looper A good summer run. Penchalock's in South Jersey. Right yeah, a good summer run in South Jersey.

Speaker 11:

Yeah, South Jersey.

Speaker 5:

You couldn't see the six heads nodding. It is in.

Speaker 11:

South Jersey. You couldn't see the six heads nodding. It is in South Jersey. It is literally right across the river from Philadelphia, and you could in fact see the skyline of Philadelphia from the race course.

Speaker 6:

Yep, cool, cool. So you had great weather. Because you had so much weather, some of it had to be great, right?

Speaker 11:

no, not, not, not a single bit of it was great yeah there wasn't a single part of it.

Speaker 4:

That was great, unless you're michael who did the night time, and leah leah did the night time yeah, I was gonna say like maybe seven in the morning was okay and, like you know, three in the morning was okay.

Speaker 6:

Okay, I got you. Now we're. I think we're getting ahead of ourselves. Tell us, please, this has a 12 and 24 hour event. Correct, correct, correct.

Speaker 11:

A 12 hour, a 24 hour.

Speaker 6:

a hundred miler, you can do the 12 and the 20, 20, 20, my 24 hour as a individual or you can do team relay any individual runners here, yeah leah was leah was huh and I was an individual also and heather, yeah, heather right

Speaker 11:

you did the 12 and leah the 24.

Speaker 6:

Oh, wow, Wow. That's impressive. Leah, I'm the heck with any kind of planning I had. Tell us about the. Tell us about the 24. You did a 24 on your own, huh.

Speaker 4:

I had some people there, you know, helping me along the way, you know, with crewing and stuff, and, and Michael, thank God, um paced me for the last three loops to meet my goal before, you know, the 7 o'clock cutoff. But yeah, I didn't really know what to expect. I mean, I knew it was going to be hot, I knew it was going to probably get monotonous at some point. Monotonous at some point, um, um, as we got closer to the race date, I saw that there was a chance to rain and I wasn't sure what that meant as far as you know, like, how, like it wasn't going to rain all day.

Speaker 4:

That's that water that comes out of the sky later well, I mean well, yeah, I just didn't know what that was going to mean as far as like how I was going to spend my 24 hours.

Speaker 6:

Hey, you came on, Rise and Run, I get to do this.

Speaker 12:

I will say.

Speaker 12:

I will say, though, that you immediately started to give credit to your crew, and you cannot take anything away from a good crew, and I think we had a great crew yeah in general, but, leah, every step was your own that's right entire time and I just remember when I did the 24-hour last time and I absolutely kind of threw in the towel at the end, um, but you really didn't have any quit in you the entire time and and you could, you could see it in your eyes that you were just going through. You know the, the pain and you were not giving into it and you know you, you kept getting back up and you kept going out there. It does get monotonous and it gets lonely overnight and we had all of the weather and all of the everything to deal with and there was just really no quitting you because, like, once you get into those later, later, later miles, you're like one more loop, like you're doing mental, you know you're you're bargaining with yourself and and your, you know mental state and, yeah, people can help keep your mind in it, but nobody moved you. You know what I'm saying, like, like. So you can, I mean, give credit to the crew, because the crew is awesome and and Aaron and Michael and everybody that was involved in kind of coordinating this and setting everything up.

Speaker 12:

And you know, prior to the monsoon that blew all of the organization away like it was, it was going like a well-oiled machine for all of us, but you're the. You were the last person out of our group out there, so I mean more. All, all credit to you. You know what I'm saying well, thanks, tom yeah I.

Speaker 11:

I feel like that's so true. Like people are always like oh I well, like, yes, you need to thank your crew for like what they do. Like we are not the reason why people get through the race. You had all the grit in the world to do it, because we all quit and you kept going and I was the first one to quit.

Speaker 4:

Well, no, you were signed up for the 12 hours.

Speaker 6:

Well, yeah, but I bailed before it rained we're going to get to Heather in a second here. I promise I want to finish up. I'm not necessarily finish up, but I want to round this out with Leah Leah. Everybody did the same loop. How long was a loop?

Speaker 4:

um. That loop was 3.75 miles oh, it's significant.

Speaker 6:

How much did you end up doing and and you went the whole 24 hours right.

Speaker 4:

I, yeah, I mean I finished my last loop, which was um I did 15 loops and um, I finished that last one right around um 5 30 in the morning and the rule is if you don't finish your last loop by 7 am, that loop doesn't count. So, um, me and Michael, you know, we, uh once he like I, until he started pacing me, my, my few loops prior were like around two, two and a half hours. Um, it was just getting really rough. Um, you know, my my feet were uh full of blisters and my calves had been tight for hours and um, I was just kind of, you know, waddling around the loop out there just trying to get as much done as I could. And then, um, when I came back I think I was when I came back from my 12th loop there was just um, um Michael and uh Tom and Aaron and um Kurt and Megan, and they're like you're the last man standing.

Speaker 4:

Everyone else has to go and I'm like, oh okay, I'm like I feel bad, you guys are still here. They're like, no, no, we're here for you. Like, what do you need you? What do you need you know? Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4:

And so I kind of had mentioned that I I wasn't really sure if I, like should have a goal for this. You know, as far as like, however many loops or miles I wanted to do, cause I didn't really know what to expect, but, like in the afternoon, when I was getting closer to 10 loops, I'm like, well, maybe I can finish 15. So that was kind of what I had in my head. I wanted to do 15, 15 loops and after that 12th one, and we were all talking, I said I don't know if I can get 15 in before 7am at the rate I'm going, and so then they're like well, michael will pace you. So that's what he did. We went out for three more loops and I cut my time, like I, we, we finished each of those loops in about an hour and a half wow um, just with him keeping me going it helps, doesn't it um?

Speaker 2:

it sure does yeah.

Speaker 4:

I mean, I wasn't in any less pain you know and um, and I I had shorter breaks in between. I think we took maybe like five minutes or so in between loops, just so I could like put my feet up for a second and refill my water bottle and stuff. But but yeah, we, we cranked out those three loops and and at five, 30, I was like I'm done.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, oh yeah, it makes perfect sense. And, like Tom says, yeah, it helps, but you still did it. You're still the one that did it.

Speaker 2:

Hey, leah, question for you, and I apologize that I never asked this of you the whole time we spent together on Saturday.

Speaker 4:

But is this a distance PR for you? Yeah, the farthest I went before this was 50 miles, I did a 50 mile last November.

Speaker 6:

Awesome, awesome, awesome, thank you. Great job. Now, heather, you also went out solo. You're rolling, and this is your first long one in a while, isn't it?

Speaker 5:

Yeah, so I did 149K about 12 years ago as a runner, so this was a pretty big challenge.

Speaker 6:

But you're coming. I think you're still coming back from a major surgery.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, I'm about six months out.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, and you're doing very, very well. How'd it go?

Speaker 5:

I mean, I didn't get the distance I'd originally hoped for, but I um quickly learned why most wheelchairs don't do ultra marathons. Um, and particularly just with it being so hot, so fast and the sweat uh, skin breakdown definitely an issue, um. So I had to be a little bit careful because I kneel in my chair, so all the pressures on my fins yeah um. So I ended up getting 10 laps, so 37.5 miles, which I was ready to quit at 50k. But if you do 10 laps you get a little skeleton on your metal.

Speaker 11:

So they convinced me to do one more lap to get that uh, skeleton charm neat, oh good stuff I just want to point out that heather was the first um wheelchair athlete that, unless endurance ever had, oh really wow, she should be super proud for getting out there absolutely a real trailblazer yeah, well, and I do want to shout them out because I always reach out to a race director before I just show up to an event and from the very beginning they were very open.

Speaker 5:

They were sending me pictures of the course, you know, talking through whether it would be good, and just were really really accepting of it from the very beginning. And you don't know them personally. They're amazing humans, yeah.

Speaker 11:

So shout out to Jen and Pete, who will probably end up listening at some point.

Speaker 5:

And they touched base with me in the morning as well, just to kind of make sure everything was good. And it was, it worked out very well.

Speaker 6:

Outstanding, outstanding.

Speaker 12:

All right. Hey, I have a quick question for Heather Heather, how was the course for you?

Speaker 5:

um, I will say so. There was that little patch of grass at the beginning and I did that the first loop and then after that I went through the parking lot. Um, there was another little patch of grass to get back to the finish. That was much easier, but that one to the beginning was just uneven enough that I was going to kill my arms doing it every time. So I just it was the same exact like distance I just stayed on the pavement through the parking lot. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 11:

I mean that parking lot goes right there, so it's like right along the course.

Speaker 6:

Sounds smart to me and I really liked the course.

Speaker 5:

It's really quite flat. There's like two tiny little elevation gains. It's pretty because you're right along the river. There was all kinds of like food trucks and events going on and it was long enough.

Speaker 11:

We had a wedding.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we had a crash wedding on the last loop. It was great.

Speaker 5:

I didn't feel like a hamster on a wheel, because it was long enough that you like you don't really feel like you're going in circles, so I liked that.

Speaker 6:

Good stuff, all right teams. So we got Greg, brianna, tom and Aaron Were. You all on the same team.

Speaker 2:

No, so Brianna was on the fast team. They were team will run for chafing, uh-huh.

Speaker 13:

Was that appropriate? It was super appropriate.

Speaker 6:

I'm sorry. Oh yeah, I'm sorry On our little board.

Speaker 11:

We called them Team Fast Holes.

Speaker 6:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

Yes, then the patriarch of Will run for and uh tom, they were on team will run for mistakes.

Speaker 11:

and cheese steaks, oh, very nice and on and on our team board we were, when we were marking all of our laps. We were the team turtles oh, yes, yes, yes, uh.

Speaker 2:

And then the team that I had the pleasure to be on with Michael we were Will Run For Aching Knees and Plastic Cheese.

Speaker 11:

But Erin what?

Speaker 2:

did you put on the board for that?

Speaker 11:

one On the board. I put team trying to beat the fast holes.

Speaker 2:

Yes, yes, yes, yep.

Speaker 6:

I thought perhaps a reference to nachos made it to the board, but no, no.

Speaker 11:

Uh, I thought perhaps a reference to nachos made it to the board, but no, no they.

Speaker 6:

They decided that they wanted to try and beat the the fast hole team who was trying to make it to 100, so we had a little competition going. Oh my interesting, all right teams, how'd it go?

Speaker 13:

I think it went really well. We were actually we. We had a good pace. I think we ended up with, I think 78 miles. Yeah, when I looked at the results it was like 78 and what like 16, a little over 16 hours. Wow, like when we called it um, we pretty much all did like five or six loops each. Um, and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be like I didn't train well or really at all, um, and this was my first race back since broad street last year okay, I had every intention of training, you know, like we all do, but it just got away from me.

Speaker 13:

And then, with the heat, I'm not a summer runner, so it was struggle bus for me.

Speaker 6:

I can imagine, but you, but you did it yeah.

Speaker 13:

So I I figured I had I could do three and three quarters and I figured I'd have enough time in between that maybe it wouldn't be terrible. And it and it took the second loop shook me a little bit, but then I guess I must have loosened up. After that I brought enough change of clothes that I never really was running in wet clothes and I think that's a huge difference.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, it does help.

Speaker 13:

I'm actually surprised this morning. Yesterday I was stiff, all day this morning I was stiff, but by now I actually feel okay and I think that surprises me more than the fact that I did like 20, because you're you're a strength training queen, that's you are that's really all I can chalk it up to like.

Speaker 10:

I think that's really what made the difference okay, so, uh, you're talking about teams here, so so two on a team, three on a team four? How big are the teams? Four people, so everyone does like basically one loop.

Speaker 11:

Every three and a half to four hours, depending on how fast your team was.

Speaker 10:

No one doubles up and just takes two.

Speaker 11:

You can. There were actually no rules to the relay. It was kind of like a free-for-all.

Speaker 13:

Yeah, I think that was. We had talked about that for like overnight. I know I think Dan had asked me earlier in the day that they had talked about for our group, since we were trying to get to 100 about the overnight, about if we were all on the same page, that we would double up so that it would give everybody an extra time to like catch a nap or whatever. Um, we didn't end up having to do it, but, um, I guess that was the thing it was like.

Speaker 11:

Just as long as somebody was out there, there didn't really seem to matter who it was yeah, honestly, you could have taken breaks too, like you didn't have to have someone on course at all times. Every like everyone on the team could have taken like a three hour nap, or if we had all wanted to go home and come back in the morning right before um like five o'clock to do the last loop. We could have done that too.

Speaker 10:

Yeah, I got you like you would want to do that right I mentioned it and there was a lot of.

Speaker 13:

I do want to give a shout out to uh to dan's google sheet uh because, I.

Speaker 2:

I was super impressed he had this whole thing calculated out, where he was inputting every person's um lap or loop time and then it would automatically update what their current pace was when they would hit 100 miles and would. It would also then predict, if they kept going at that current pace, how how much mileage you know they would end up with and if you know if they would end up with and if you know if they could place, you know, in the top three or whatever.

Speaker 2:

But obviously again, you know, the weather, which we can talk about in a little bit, that kind of blew the the Google sheet out of the water.

Speaker 11:

Yeah, we did that last year for um. I had one for Tom, I have one for Michael and I have one for Megan last year, um, when they did the solos, Tom and Erin, I don't think you've told us much about how your race went. How did my race go? I mean we were walking, so I was walk running. I mean our team was the team turtles, so we really weren't like trying.

Speaker 13:

This is fine.

Speaker 5:

Too much.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, I think that's fine. An event like this, I mean especially a team event like this.

Speaker 11:

It's more about the camaraderie yeah, I agree it's an excuse. I was more. I was more interested in making sure, putting teams together because we knew that Leah was going to be out there for 24 hours. We wanted to like have a good group of people that were um going to be able to cheer her on and be able to like keep her in it for the night, which, I guess, kind of got blown out of the water and Michael was the only one who kept her going.

Speaker 6:

But that was for the best league plans right that was for the best league plans, right, I reckon. Uh, race support, did you provide all of your own, or was there any race support provided?

Speaker 11:

and I'm talking in terms of food, uh, there was hydration support but we did not really, um, did not really utilize it. We kind of because michael and I have had a lot of ultra like experience doing these kinds of races we kind of like having our own base camp, we kind of set up our own thing.

Speaker 5:

I think our group could have supported the entire race.

Speaker 6:

Well, I know you had enough cheese.

Speaker 5:

I'll be honest, we didn't get into that cheese thank god I actually forgot to even put it out, but I had brought nachos to share oh my goodness, that would have been perfectly appropriate.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, I was shocked to see how much of that stuff I had, tom, and I still have. I think I still have 10 containers here, some of which, some of which are actually inside their expiration date. But yeah, but that's yeah. I wouldn't have touched them either. They've been out in my garage for um they.

Speaker 11:

They in end went in the trash. Sorry, bob.

Speaker 6:

Good place for them. Good place for them. It really was. It's the right place. I'm very glad you didn't try them. That would have been dangerous.

Speaker 11:

It was funny for a picture.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, all right, good, good. I'm glad they got there. I'm glad you got a kick out of it. And I'm glad you got a kick out of it, and I'm really glad you didn't try them.

Speaker 5:

I just want to say if anyone's ever interested in like a low threat ultra, I can't recommend this one enough because it is pretty low key and, with being a loop course, you never are going to be like lost in the woods somewhere.

Speaker 4:

Right yeah.

Speaker 5:

It's nice.

Speaker 11:

Yeah, I mean, this is one of our favorites because of that, and Michael and yeah, I mean this is one of our favorites because of that, and michael and I are big, big fans of loop races, because you're never far from support and you're never far from your people.

Speaker 12:

So, like there's something mentally where it's like okay, I can do 3.75 miles it's a very controlled environment and the loop is not that that big that you're scared that you're not going to be able to complete one Right and and just when you, just when you're kind of reaching your limit, you're back at your base camp. You can reset, you can go back out. You know it's, it's a. It's a pretty safe kind of um, safe kind of ultra event. If someone was trying to get get involved in one, I would definitely recommend it.

Speaker 2:

No, Tom tom, I'll get. I'll give a perfect example of that. So when the the storm blew through and this was this was just before I want to say seven o'clock, so it was just before the halfway point. Um, you know, we had dark clouds overhead, we saw lightning in the distance. We were hearing rumbles of thunder.

Speaker 2:

And at one point, an air horn did go off during the race, which was indicating that they needed to just pause things for a little bit, and at that point, across the various teams we had people out on the course when they blew that air horn. So thankfully again, since it is in a confined span of space, we were able to get somebody in a car to drive on the loop to go pick those people up and then bring them back to safety.

Speaker 6:

Oh, that's cool.

Speaker 2:

That also helped salvage our camp before everything uh, you know, potentially blew away.

Speaker 11:

Yeah, yeah, well, that's cool, you were able to do that I think and I have said this a few times, but um, and I'll say it here I think that had the rain been like two hours earlier and you could have regrouped in the like light of day, or if it had happened two hours later and the weather had cooled down and we weren't at like the height of the worst part of part of the day and when it's the toughest, I think we would have been able to regroup as as teams. But I think it was just like the perfect storm of we were 12 hours in, we were hot, we were tired, we were exhausted and the idea of resetting up our camp just felt like too much.

Speaker 6:

Totally understand.

Speaker 2:

Makes perfect sense to me, but we made lemonade out of lemons by the. You know the collective decision across the three teams and because one of the rules of Loopy Looper and this is a special event it's actually part of the event that you can register for and that's called the Glow Loop. So this happens at 10 pm and so if you're already participating in the 12 or the 24 hour, obviously you can just go out. It's a big party. There's glow sticks and all sorts, plus people got their headlamps and their Nox gear on and all that jazz. But it came to the mutual decision between the three teams that we were going to do this as teams together, because the rule was you could only be out on the course as a team for your final lap. So everyone decide this is a good way to shut it down.

Speaker 2:

We and then you know we just walked the entire thing because we actually thought the glow loop was going to get delayed because the the huge storm pushed through and then, about I want to say 45 minutes before the glow loop, the heavens opened back up on us and and literally at that point I think one tent had got re-put up. So we were all huddled under there thinking, oh, maybe they'll, they'll delay the glow loop. But no, they were right on the nose at 10 o'clock so we all went out there. You know it took us, you know over an hour to do it, but it was fun to just get out there, wave our glow sticks. As you know, cars would honk at us.

Speaker 2:

Uh, you know, and everything like that. So it was. It was a good way to to shut it down, that's for sure, and, like I said, brianna and I thought about crashing the wedding that was going on because I think the reception was wrapping up, so uh, so that was.

Speaker 5:

That was a cool way to end it, yeah and I had actually signed up for the 12 hour and the glow loop, just because I thought that would be kind of fun to do with everyone else, but went back, took a shower, ate, you know, ate some food. It was looked at it, it was raining and I went to bed and did not go back don't blame you a bit.

Speaker 4:

Good decision.

Speaker 10:

You guys did the Frosty Looper last year. I know, looking at it, I guess if you do both races in the same season you get like a hybrid medal. Are you guys planning on going for that?

Speaker 13:

I'd be lying if I hadn't thought about it.

Speaker 4:

If I lived closer, I might think about it. But, I'm 13 hours away.

Speaker 6:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 5:

If I could fit in my racing chair with winter clothes, I would maybe do it.

Speaker 12:

I know Aaron and Michael did it last year, so I don't know if they're planning on doing it again.

Speaker 11:

We actually not plan to do it this year. We're like we need a break from loopy. And then Leah and Lisa who unfortunately got COVID were like we want to do it. We were like, well, we live like three miles away, so we're going to do this. So we ended up doing it this year. So I think next year we might take a break, but maybe 2026, we'll be back and we'll try and do a big group again.

Speaker 6:

Sounds like fun.

Speaker 2:

No, I mean for those people that are in. You know the mid-Atlantic area, so you know your Pennsylvania's, new Jersey's, delaware's, maryland's, virginia's. You know, if you wanted to dip your toe into something like this, I would actually highly recommend the Frosty looper. You know, I I give all the credit in the world to, to michael and aaron, for um, you know, having me come out to do frosty looper last december, you know, especially since it's only an eight hour event, um, the weather was not terrible. I mean, thankfully we had a cloudy day. I think the temperatures were in the like high 40s, maybe low 50s, so it was perfect running weather. Um, now, it's not as big of an event as um, as you know, the summer version, but I mean still the same type of support, you know with. You know, if you needed soup or water, or tailwind quesadillas, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, you know they had that. All they're providing. And it's a very reasonable price too. I mean, it's cheaper than a disney race, I'll tell you that so yeah, so if you're, interested.

Speaker 2:

Definitely look into. Uh, it's called the frosty looper. Uh, again, part of endless endurance uh, when is that, guys?

Speaker 11:

I'll be at frosty loopy. It's in December. It's the last weekend for most people. It'll be your last long run for run Disney.

Speaker 13:

Dopey.

Speaker 11:

Marathon anything like that. So I believe that I will be there this year as a dedicated training run, the way that Greg was last year. It's a really great way to get support.

Speaker 2:

It's a perfect cater way to get get support. Absolutely yeah, it's a perfect cater training. Uh, cater training, run it's perfect, it's december 15th.

Speaker 11:

It looks like looking at their website, okay yeah, so I will probably be there for that, for a dedicated uh training run for dopey good stuff, guys.

Speaker 6:

Thanks for joining us. It was fun. I've been looking forward to this. I've I, as a regular, will run for listener. I've heard about frosty and I've heard about loopy on many occasions, so it's great to have you on. It's always great to see everybody and to talk about it. So, heather, brianna, leah, tom, aaron, thanks for joining us.

Speaker 6:

We'll talk to you again soon thanks, bob bye it's been a good episode visiting with friends. I think this has worked out nicely. Nothing special for 150, but we've had a bunch of bunch of folks we've been friends with for a long time on the episode and I'm glad we were able to do that. And congratulations on a good run there, greg.

Speaker 2:

On Saturday Thank you very much.

Speaker 6:

All right, let's continue. On Saturday in Cape Elizabeth, maine, the beach to Beacon 10K. We had several runners there. We had Heidi and we had Heidi. And well, the other Heidi wasn't there. Anyway, rachel was there, so was Sophie.

Speaker 6:

Let's see, this thing was delayed an hour because of lightning and our runners told us that they all got drenched because they didn't have much to do except stand around. Heidi R says they're all soaked but at least they still got bacon. That's not bad. At least they still got bacon. That's not bad. Heidi K says that the rain stopped but then it got kind of steamy. It was rough. She struggled a bit. Wouldn't say it was fun, but it was memorable. That's true. Events like that, where you get just soaked, they're memorable. Rachel ran it. It was a wild ride. And Sophie, she was soaked. They were all soaked from standing around. Still thought the race was great, liked the local support, thought it was a beautiful point-to-point course with rolling hills. Sophie was pretty excited about it. She highly recommends it. Let's go to Billville, maryland. This one's interesting the Race, the Rapids 5K. Christy did this one in a lazy river at the Turtle Cove Water Park.

Speaker 2:

That sounds like an absolute dream.

Speaker 6:

I mean sure you probably sweat, but you probably are not feeling it much because you're in a wonderful lazy river now you get to do it with the current against the current will be just nuts. Uh, chrissy says it's hard and I believe her, even with I can imagine yeah, yeah, said that the balloon ladies would have absolutely swept her off the course, but she was the fastest person to complete this 5K. She actually won.

Speaker 10:

I think Bob would have been really good with his aqua jogging. Oh, a thousand percent he would have set a world record.

Speaker 2:

If that was him. Now, what I would actually the true Lazy River 5K that I would sign up for is if all it required you to do was get into an inner tube and float for a 5K that would be one I would definitely sign up for I could do that.

Speaker 6:

Heck, let's do a 10K, Greg.

Speaker 2:

Okay, all right.

Speaker 6:

Let's wrap up Saturday in Connecticut. I've got two events, well, actually more than two. Let's start with the Conquering Challenges 5K in Avon that Monica ran. This was her first trail race Now. Monica was visiting family in Connecticut yes right, visiting family in Connecticut because she is from Florida and she says the temperatures were great. It was wonderful to run in the Connecticut weather. Lots of 169 runners there. Monica won catch this a new pair of Brooks, a yarn bowl and a corgi shirt in a raffle. No medals for the race, but she still got third in her age group.

Speaker 10:

Monica, can you pick our lottery numbers too, please?

Speaker 6:

Yeah, pretty good. All right. Now let's shift from monica lives in florida, races in connecticut, to our friend sue, who is one of those 169ers. Sue actually did three one mile off-road races in the towns of voluntown, sterling and plainfield races number 159, 160 and 161. Sue says it was hot as blazes but you had to keep moving forward. I always say, friends, if it's hot where you are, it's hot. If you're used to the weather in Connecticut and Sue, you thought it was hot, then by golly it was. And if Monica's used to the weather in Florida and she thought Connecticut was lovely, then by golly it was. So great job to both of you. Let's go to Sunday.

Speaker 6:

Pretty quick report this week. Let's start. Since we were in New England, let's start in Rockport Mass, the Triple Threat Challenge. Christina did a one-mile race where she finished age group second that's cool Followed immediately by a 5k and then a half marathon. Courses were real, real hilly, not a place you want to shoot for a POT, but they had super fresh donuts at the finish line. Lots of medals. Sue got four or five medals out of this because she got a medal for that second place age group and heck, you know medals are great. So she enjoyed the event.

Speaker 6:

The triple threat challenge up in Rockport in Atlanta or in the Atlanta area. The Atlanta Track Club, decatur DeKalb 4-Miler this one's actually in Decatur. Patrick ran this one Fun and hilly 4 miles. Yeah, a lot of hills around Atlanta. This one's free for Atlanta Track Club members. A little over 2,000 people attending. That's pretty cool. Get to run through the city of Decatur neighborhoods on what the track club says is its most challenging course. The Atlanta Track Club puts on great events that Patrick's talked about before, great benefits to its members. If you're in the area, probably something you want to look into. Heck, the price of admission to this race would probably justify your membership.

Speaker 6:

Let's go across to england for the south shields 10 mile race. Our buddy andy did this one. I was afraid I wasn't going to hear from him. I saw this one just a few minutes before we started recording. Andy said the weather there was ideal and the course offered picturesque views. They had freshly laid tarmac footpaths with some trail running, foot pass with some trail running. Only downside of this event is the hills throughout. Andy says he finished as strongly as he can remember finishing a race with plenty left in the tank was able to click it into high gear for the last mile. That finish gave him all sorts of confidence, but not as much as the couple who approached him after the race to say, hey, I've been watching the roller coaster running on YouTube and feel like it really helped me on this event. Just from motivation, andy, that's really cool. Congratulations for that. Let's finish the race report.

Speaker 6:

In Utah, the Beaver Canyon half marathon Jessica. Quite a story here for how Jessica finished half marathon number nine of the year on a quest for 12 this year. Now let me see if I got this one straight. She was originally set to run in Colorado, but there were fires and smoke that made that less than desirable, even though I believe that event went on. So Jessica drove 13 hours to Wyoming and then found out that the race she planned to do there instead of Colorado had been canceled. So she searched and found the Beaver Canyon half in Utah and ended up doing this one. This is quite a journey. Course was beautiful, net, downhill, high temp of 100 degrees, a little warmer than she's used to in Washington State. Luckily the race started at 6.30 am. The moral of this story good things can happen if you stay flexible. I think you were the prime example of flexible on that one, jessica.

Speaker 6:

That is our race report for the week. Friends, like I said, not too many this week, but no surprises there. What do you expect in August? In the Northern Hemisphere it's hot, all right, my friends. That wraps up episode 150 of the Rise and Run podcast. Friends and if you run, you know you are our friend Really didn't have anything special planned for this one, our friend Really didn't have anything special planned for this one. Glad we got to visit with friends, because that's what this has become all about the friends that we've made, the friends that have grown into a family in this community. We've loved being with you for all of these weeks. We look forward to doing it many, many more. It's a Zoom Thursday. Why don't you drop in and say hi? We'd look forward to seeing you. Instructions for how to get there are on our Facebook page. That's it, my friends. Until we see you again, happy running.
