Speaker 1:

Isn't it nice getting together like this once a week we get to see one another, the rest of our friends, they just have to listen to us and maybe that's a blessing, I don't know. But hey, this week's episode, part two of our discussion of d23 with our friend from once upon a marathon, amanda.

Speaker 2:

This part I thought last week was interesting, this part is, uh, interesting er I would say that this is where we get into the really hot takes and the controversies of these D23 announcements and this was recorded a week ago, so some of the stuff that has come out on social might have changed some.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we may address it at the very end, but it may have settled out a little bit. You're right, john. But it may have settled out a little bit. You're right, john. Also, this week on our Race Report Spotlight, the Falmouth Road Race, when I learned whether it's Falmouth or Falmouth, and it's Falmouth, the Falmouth Road Race in Massachusetts. And we run polls and the patreon every now and then, so it's really cool, little side community you know, lexi, that's a good idea.

Speaker 2:

I might put up a poll because I am waffling so bad on my my race plan for springtime surprise whether I want to do the challenge or just the 5k and the 10k. So maybe, maybe I'll throw that poll the patreons decide how much money I'm going to spend for springtime surprise be prepared, I know you know what they're gonna say.

Speaker 3:

I know what they're gonna say, yeah no, no.

Speaker 2:

It's so funny because I remember when we had Kristen and Devin on a few weeks ago to talk about Springtime Surprise, I was like Baymax is the challenge, this is going to be awesome, I'm totally in for the challenge. And then, 72 hours later, the guy who was the best man in my wedding called me up and asked me to be in his wedding party. And his bachelor party is the month before Springtime Surprise. And the wedding is two months later and I'm like, oh boy, I need the budget now yeah all right, it'll be.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, what you? That's one. You can't lose, greg, whatever you decide. So, yeah, thanks to our patreons, we absolutely appreciate you. Uh, youtube, we're still the greg. Ask me anything. Episode should be up shortly. We'll see how that goes. Lexi is next on the firing line and I've posted on the facebook page.

Speaker 3:

So if you have any questions for me, go ahead and pop on over. There's a, there's a few good ones there. Right now. I'm, I'm, I'm excited to see what else you guys come up with.

Speaker 1:

Remember you can ask whatever you want, she doesn't have to answer.

Speaker 2:

Lexi loves questions about port-a-potty usage so if you have any port-a-potty question. Just send them lexi's way she's gonna be so excited about them.

Speaker 2:

Oh goodness, the Rise and Run podcast is sponsored by our friends over at Magic Bound Travel. Magicboundtravelcom is their website. So if you're interested in that, for a Disneyland vacation, uh, in any time in 2025, give magic bound a call again. Magicboundtravelcom is the website.

Speaker 1:

Check them out. Friends, let's look at the training schedule. Two weeks from today, I and several thousand of my bestest running friends will be descending on Anaheim, california. We are two weeks away from Disneyland Halloween race weekend. If you are doing the challenge, this is week 16 on the training schedule. Challengers, you've got a five mile walk and a 14 mile run and yes, I know a half is only 13.1,. But Mr Galloway, in his wisdom and I mean that sincerely has learned that going that extra mile is going to really benefit you on race day and I have experienced that benefit. It's a great help psychologically and physically. So, five walk, 14 run. Wine and dine wine and dine weekend. Now, 10 weeks away, we're almost in single digits for wine and dine weekend training. We training week eight. If you're doing the challenge, this is your first double up weekend A one mile walk and an eight mile run. Walk Marathon weekend. 20 weeks away, week eight of training A nine mile run is your long run Of note.

Speaker 1:

Tuesday registration day for the final race of the season. That's right, we haven't done the first race yet, but registration for the final race of race weekend of the season. The springtime surprise and we've seen the artwork and the themes Looks like fun. That's Tuesday. If you're new to this, my friend, I cannot strongly enough suggest to you to join us on our Facebook community chat for the 2025 Springtime Surprise Race Weekend at registration time We'll be there a little before 10,. Surprise race weekend at registration time We'll be there a little before 10. And we've really got this down to a science of helping one another out. I'm not guaranteeing that everybody will get in, but we will increase your chances tremendously if you can join us in that chat.

Speaker 1:

Friends, let's talk about dopey training for a bit. I'm fond of saying there are three very exciting times in dopey weekend Dopey marathon, whatever your goal is, whatever it's a half marathon, whatever your big challenge is, especially during the January race, there are three exciting times. The day you get registered oh boy, I'm in. The day we start training oh boy, here we go. And the day you cross the finish line. In between, it gets kind of tough. In a sense, I think you can draw an analogy between dopey training and running a marathon. It's like when you get started, oh boy, this is great, I'm excited. Here we go, and the first couple of miles aren't too bad.

Speaker 1:

Now, if you're sticking with the published Jeff Galloway training program and most of us do something close to that you'll have 90 days of training, three days a week most weeks. Some weeks four, couple of weeks five, and you'll log about 475 miles. Now I estimate. You know the Tuesday, thursday days that say 30 to 45 minutes. I think most of us get about three and a half miles on those days, plus or minus, but it's a good number to work with. So, looking at it that way, we are 27% done in our number of days, but we're less than 20% done our number of miles. So we've got some challenges ahead. Interestingly enough, our friend Mark, who does such a wonderful job on creating those great looking training schedules, posed that question this week in Facebook. What?

Speaker 5:

challenges do you expect coming up in training? So, Bob, I think the biggest challenge that I foresee that I know happens every year is coming is running in Minnesota.

Speaker 5:

We never know what the weather is going to be like I know many of our friends also deal with different weather types around the country, and so trying to figure out my schedule with work and everything else and fit in those runs when it's not a snowstorm or there's not ice, or finding time to take a day and run on the treadmill because it takes longer that's the biggest challenge that I foresee for myself every year. But my advice to people is know that it's going to be a little bit extra of a challenge to figure out with the weather, but keep an open mind and you can get it done. And running in the wintertime is an amazing thing and I know not everybody gets to experience it, but I was just talking to a client this week about how serene those winter snowy days can be, so just take it with a grain of salt.

Speaker 1:

No, it's a good point. I remember those days. It's been a long time, but I do remember them. And you're right, it really doesn't matter, you've got the challenges we always. I always hear or read people saying I don't know how you run in the south in the summer, and it's a challenge, but I always come back to them. That's okay. I don't know how you run in the north in the winter, yep. So we all have to make accommodations and do the best we can.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely, alicia.

Speaker 3:

I'm going to add on to what you were just saying, because one of my biggest challenges and this isn't just when I'm in a training cycle, this is just, I feel like a period navigating the holidays while training and and and it's not just christmas, it's like the time from labor day until new year's day that it just feels like it's one thing after another, or a party after another, or a school break where there's trips or a vacation, because it's fall, or Thanksgiving and family, and you don't only have a gathering on Thanksgiving, you have a gathering the week before Thanksgiving and then you have a Christmas party the week after Thanksgiving.

Speaker 3:

And so, you know, I feel like especially when I fit this in with all the other billions of things that I have going on specifically during this time of the year, and weather just plays into that too. But, um, you know, I think the thing that we really have to remember and I don't know, put post-its up everywhere to remind yourself of as, like one, we got to do the training or the races in January or November or whenever you're doing them, they're not going to be.

Speaker 1:

Oh, they're miserable.

Speaker 3:

They're not going to be that good. If you can even do them, they're miserable to be.

Speaker 3:

oh, they're miserable, they're not gonna be that good. If you can even do them, they're miserable. Yeah, exactly so you know. You just gotta, you gotta stay focused on the priorities. As one of the reasons why I love having the rise and run podcast host and the facebook groups and all of the various chats that are going on, because it's it reminds you where your priorities are and what you have going on and kind of what sacrifices you also need to make as well.

Speaker 2:

Lexi, I'm going to build off of that a little bit in terms of getting yourself prepared, because the one thing that I always struggled with whether it's marathon training or when I did goofy or when I did dopey is that, regardless of if you're doing one of those challenges or one of those super long runs, is that probably? Yes, physically it is tough, and I'm sure we're going to talk about this once we get well into the fall to help remind everyone of these challenges as well. But but for me, it has always been the mental side of it.

Speaker 2:

The fact that, if you're in a simulation weekend. You're out there, all by your lonesome, for a really, really long time. So, if you can, if so, not only can you start training your body for the physical nature of this, but also start training your mind. We talk about how we have to make sure that we're properly fueling and we're properly hydrating going into these runs. I think we also need to properly get ourselves ready mentally, not in the sense of the idea of psyching yourself out that like, oh well, I really don't want to do this run or I don't want to do this walk More. So maybe the night before, start building out a playlist or start building out the podcast that you want to listen to. I mean, historically, when it comes to the fall, even though I I stay up really, really late.

Speaker 2:

Those, uh, those weeks, you know, you know, for those simulation weekends, we like to try and have long episodes, you know for everybody. But you know, stack up, you know all your favorite podcasts or like, or if you want to go back into the library. Some of my favorite things to listen to when I'm out on a super long run are the race uh episodes, because it almost kind of gives me the sense that like, even though I'm running by myself, like I'm still reliving those. You know those run Disney moments and and those have always helped me as well. You know, dive into the.

Speaker 2:

You know the Spotify playlist that John and the community have been building on. You know, just getting you a variety of content to help keep your mind at ease. But again, like Lexi you were saying before, dig into the new Facebook chat that we have about training runs. You can talk to people there. Maybe come up with a short list of people you could call know maybe help you get through a mile or two or something like that, because the the better you can get yourself mentally prepped, it will help you be physically good on those very long runs, especially when we get into the months of november and december another thing that I've found that really helps the mental game for me, um, that I've been doing the last kind of year and a half is listening to audiobooks that are about running.

Speaker 5:

So, especially for marathon training, listening to a book where somebody is talking about marathon training, it really is helpful to me to keep me motivated, because not only do I hear about their struggles in the book, but I hear about their wins and I go, oh yeah, I can do that. I can do that. I can get to the finish line. It may not be the same story of what marathon that they're doing or the race that they're doing, but I can relate in the fact of running and all the things that go with it, so that might be something that can help you too.

Speaker 6:

Okay, it's something else that's going to happen. I mean it's going to happen, it happens to all of us. You're out in that long training run and your mind's going to say, hey, you should pack it in right now, you're done. And you just got to tell your mind, hey, I'm not done yet. Like you're got a 20 mile run and you're at mile 15 and you think you're done, say, let me do another mile. If I get another mile under my belt, maybe I can see how I feel. Then just break it down into little miles and that helps you out a lot. I mean, granted, if you're totally exhausted, drained, hurting, cut it short, but you got to fight through that little urge to call it quits early.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you can almost always do more than you think you can.

Speaker 3:

And we've mentioned it before on the podcast is whenever we're training, the real work is that additional mile that you have when you go from. You know, last week you did 18 miles, this week you have 19 miles. That last mile is sometimes the hardest, even though it is just one mile, but you know that's what gets your body to the point where it needs to be so that you can do all of these crazy awesome things in the in the coming months. You know, it's not just it's not just the oh, I have eight miles today and then I'm going to like eight is so long. It's like it's really that from seven miles to eight miles, like that's might be your hardest and it also is the most beneficial.

Speaker 1:

That's the mile you came for. If we could just train those last two miles, wouldn't that be lovely Right?

Speaker 5:

You got to put the others in to get going.

Speaker 5:

On the other end Lexi and John, you kind of mentioned this too of like struggling with the miles, but sometimes, well, we all know most of the time the first mile lies and so if you're struggling to even get out there, we have those chats and so reach out and say like I really need a push to get out the door today. I'm sure that the gang and everybody that is part of the Rise and Run community will help get you out there and keep you motivated to do your miles.

Speaker 1:

Let me see if I can summarize. First challenge I expect Greg alluded to Gang. We got to figure out a way to make these episodes two and a half hours long again. Well, I'm sure we'll solve that problem. For the long distance training and again you define long distance. Okay, I will. Just I'm throwing it out because I want you to understand my experience level. I'm training for Dopey number five, disney Marathon number six. So I've done it before.

Speaker 1:

Don't look ahead. Everyone here has alluded to the fact that the miles start to increase. Look at this week's mileage. Get this week's mileage in the books. I find personally that when the miles start to creep up let's say the last time I went out I went from 6 to 10. Pretty big jump. Then I've since gone from 10 to 12, and this week we 12 to 14. But what I find is I can get to last week's number pretty comfortably before I start to really suffer, and that's okay. Now, this week, last week I went 12. I went from 10 to 12. I got to 10. I was feeling pretty good by the time I finished 10,. I was feeling kind of spent and then I walked a bit and I finished 12. I anticipate this week that, if everything goes well, I should get to around 11 or 12, feeling okay, it starts to build for you. But don't look ahead, don't look and go. Oh my goodness, there's a 23 out there, there's a 26 out there. They'll mean something different when you get there. Folks like to ask when does this get easy? And the answer is it doesn't. But you'll know you're doing great when you look at your training schedule for Saturday and you see that your long run is six miles and you go, oh good, just six miles this week. Then you know you're doing very well.

Speaker 1:

This is the time I started talking about the excitement of the training and how the training is. In itself is like a marathon. This is a time where the excitement wears off and the dedication, the commitment and the perseverance come through. You heard a couple of of the gang talking about the Disney runs chat group. Remember last week when we said, hey, do you think we should do this? I said I'm going to do it because my alarm will go off whenever I can. I'll be able to see somebody. I sound like Santa Claus's sleigh walking around. My alarm goes off so much because so many people are posting on that and I do want to single out. I don't typically do this, I meant to do it this morning. I want to thank Coach Twiggs for jumping on there. Chris has jumped into that chat group, just as Tom jumped into Lexi, the weight loss group you started, just as Tom jumped in to help on that as kind of a group expert. Chris has jumped in on this chat group as an expert too, and I greatly appreciate it.

Speaker 1:

But here's the bottom line. Friends, this is not easy. There are challenges. You've heard us talking about them. It is worth it. It is absolutely 100% worth it. Crossing that finish line on Sunday is a super feeling and I wish it for all of you. I have no doubt we'll talk about this more, but let's move on. By golly, we saw, speaking of motivation, we saw the Marathon Weekend medals this week and, as I always do, I throw it open and say gang, what did you think?

Speaker 2:

Hold on. Can I answer for Bob real quick yeah.

Speaker 1:

They're nice. I thought they were okay, they're nice, yeah.

Speaker 3:

But no, I agree with that, I think they're good, I like them. They're okay, they're nice, but no, I agree with that, I think they're good, I like them.

Speaker 2:

They're okay, they're just okay, they're okay.

Speaker 6:

I mean, I don't know. To me there's something about the way they drew the characters that does not do it for me.

Speaker 5:

I did find it interesting that they kind of went back to the old look of the dopey metal, but it's like opens, so like for a really long time the dopey metals were like the same thing, but different years, um, and they might have been different colors too, um, but it's that same type of look, um, and I thought that was really interesting that they went back to like the retro kind of look of the original dopey metalist yeah, I think it's.

Speaker 6:

They're going, yeah, back like an old school type not all, not all the flash and fans are just like with the light up, dopey last year or the spinning characters. They might still spin, but you know, doesn't look all that that flashy I will say that I really like the the set as a whole.

Speaker 2:

I will go on record and saying it is not my favorite marathon weekend set, but on the flip side of that, I think this is the most cohesive metal package conglomeration whatever you want to call it since the 50th anniversary medals yes that we had back in. So that was that marathon weekend 2022 with the, the rose gold and yeah you know, and all that jazz.

Speaker 2:

So you know they all fit as a set really nice. Um, you know, in terms of my favorite, even though I'm not earning either of these medals, I thought the Goofy medal looks awesome and the one where they really knocked it out of the park, that half marathon medal, is beautiful. I forget who said it on social media, whether it was Instagram or Facebook, but somebody was like they put a lot of thought and care into the half medal because we got screwed out of a half marathon last January so they were making up for it on this medal. But I think they're really, really nice. John, like you were saying, I love, especially when it comes to the marathon medal.

Speaker 2:

I like the very retro, 1970s-looking Mickey silhouette that's in the background of that. I thought that was a really nice touch and I mean it was hard to tell on the reel that they posted. You know what type of movement is involved with these. I mean, obviously they showed in the picture that you know the dopey metal opens, but I'm kind of glad to see them moving a little bit away from you know this spins or that moves, because you know that I think can lead to the problems that we have, you know, complained we've chatted about. When it comes to the metals themselves, you know, these past couple of years, I agree with that, greg.

Speaker 5:

I really think that they're cohesive, and somebody mentioned on Instagram that that half metal has Spaceship earth in the background, which I thought was a really cool touch. Um, I don't know that we've seen that before on a marathon weekend metal that I remember. Um, and I really actually like the 5k metal with Pluto. I thought that one. It's simple but it's very, very nice. I like that one a lot.

Speaker 1:

Here's the truth. You know that I don't run for the bling. I don't, and I got it and appreciate it, my friends. Yeah, they're okay. I actually like these. I really like the way they look. Greg, I like that we're not spinning, and I've said that before. I think that is a waste. You get it, you look at your metal, you spin it, you put it away and you put it up on your wall and it never spins again. And I think they're paying a little more attention to the quality of the metal and the depth of the paint. And I hope I'm right we should get a chance to see them in two weeks.

Speaker 2:

Oh, that's a very good point.

Speaker 1:

It's hope I'm right, I, we should get a chance to see them in two weeks. Oh, that's a very good point. And uh, yeah, we'll, we'll report back, uh. But I, honestly, this time I was pleased and I agree, of course I'm a little biased, but I always think the goofy metal looks best.

Speaker 2:

I don't know, it's just got that character now I will say the one thing I haven't been able to determine, because I know the big point of conversation that we had just a couple of weeks ago, when the Wine and Dime medals got released, is that, you know, was this the return to the more enamel style?

Speaker 2:

you know whether these medals fall into that camp or if it's, you know, more of like what we've been used to in the last couple of years. But, bob, that's a really good point. So when you go to the expo, yeah, for halloween, you know, be sure to, you know, get up and close and personal with those things and and, uh, and definitely report back to us once we do the halloween recap bring it back with you, bob all right yeah, yeah, just take it right off the wall, they won't mind.

Speaker 1:

Nobody will notice.

Speaker 2:

Then you won't have to worry about trading and you'll have dopey in the bag. It'll be great.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah. Well, that's just something else to look forward to. Speaking of looking forward to, I'm looking forward to hearing the second part of our chat about D23.

Speaker 2:

Let's start it up, all right. So we'll leave animal kingdom and we will now move to probably well, I shouldn't say probably the hottest topic, uh, in disney social media right now. But we will move over to hollywood studios. To Hollywood Studios. I don't think anybody saw Billy Crystal coming out on stage to announce that Monstropolis is coming to Hollywood Studios, and probably a rumor that has been going around Disney circles for probably close to two decades. Now.

Speaker 2:

We are getting the Monsters coaster all right, so according to josh, construction starts again quote unquote next year. The million dollar question is where is it going to go? So, right now, as of day of recording, we have people like mickey views who is saying that he has sources that it's going in the grand avenue muppet vision, star tours area. Then you have other outlets, like wdw news today that's saying they're full of crap, it's going where animation courtyard is and it actually probably just maybe three hours before recording. Um, there is an article from therapcom. They are reporting that imagineering has not decided yet where it is going to go. Obviously, location is going to dictate how this will affect Run Disney. Now, granted, we spend such little time in studios for the marathon. I think, regardless of wherever they pick, there's not going to be a huge impact. But really, where we'll probably be felt is those smaller courses, especially the 10-miler. You will probably have to be altered. So, john, I'm going to start with you here. Where do you think this is going?

Speaker 6:

I looked at the maps. I did an aerial view Personally. Where it would fit the best would be where Animation Courtyard is because Voyage of the Little Mermaid's been closed, I guess for god knows how long but it's reopening, but they're reopening it.

Speaker 6:

Oh they're reopening it reimagined but that next to toy story land makes more sense than having it where star tours and the Muppets is next to Star Wars. I mean it will kind of fit to like a more of a Pixar land than a, you know, someplace out in the open. And then there's a lot of space there too. I mean there's probably buildings in the back that they haven't used and that they can knock down to make a bigger area. That's Muppet Vision and Star Tours tours, it's not that I don't know. Then you got that. Get rid of mama melrose, another restaurant, so it's a whole.

Speaker 6:

There's a whole lot yeah and play, play junior well, and by but that place you have to play junior uh stage well, john you, you go, you go to the disney junior dance party all the time right all the time but I would also say, and sorry jack to jump on you the conversely, you know, I feel like star tours is kind of like out in the boondocks compared to like now with star wars.

Speaker 3:

The things that you hear about are millennium falcon and Rise of the Resistance. So I would say like in my opinion, it almost makes more sense to put it over there, because I don't think Star Tours is as popular as the rest of the Star Wars land here's where I'm going to tell you that's wrong because thank, thank you, jack, thank you.

Speaker 4:

I'm just looking at this from a cast member's perspective. I worked in attractions for five years. Dave has worked in attractions for longer than I have and has been with the company and had been with the company for like 11 years and working directly with attractions. The reason why star tours is line is almost always empty is because the capacity for that ride is so strong that it makes it feel like there's no one going there, when in reality they are just able to just move people so fast. They have how many loading docks and they're able to put what like 30 people in there or more, or 40. So if you look at that, versus what you could put in even tower of terror tower of terror is two attractions, technically speaking, because there's two drop shafts, you can put 21 people per elevator. So the capacity for that is going to be a little bit smaller than it is for a loading dock that fits 40 people, let's say, per each pod that they have. So in reality I don't think hollywood studios can afford to get rid of the muppets or star tours because of the capacity, for those two attractions are not in the same equivalence as what you would see easily over animation courtyard.

Speaker 4:

Having worked at hollywood studios for five years and they used to have like and this is something that I really missed as a cast member as you entered as a cast member through the wardrobe area, they would have a whole sleigh of bikes that you can use to use the bike path all around the park. I know that park in the back extremely well, where you see Animation Courtyard. You can expand back so much and they have so much more space to be able to do whatever they would like that it seemed, and almost to the point that if they wanted to expand into monsters university and do like the monsters university games which I really think they should then they have the capability and capacity of space back there to be able to put that out there. So you look at that, animation courtyard is a dead space.

Speaker 4:

Yes, you have aerial coming back, but that can easily be taken down within a like a few months or a year, just saying, hey, here's a placement until we're able to fill in the spaces for other things. Launch bay has been there for how many years and there's no, no one going in there. You have Disney Junior, yeah, but now that all the little kids have other areas of which they go to, disney Junior isn't as popular as it used to be, so for them to put Monsters Incorporated in that location seems like the most logistically sound place with the least likelihood of people being upset, because if you take two attractions out, both Muppets and Star Tours, you're already looking at what's considered a half-day park anyways.

Speaker 1:

People leave after five o'clock.

Speaker 4:

So if you want people to stay, you want to keep those attractions in, build more attractions and make it a full-day park.

Speaker 6:

And the other area.

Speaker 4:

Sorry is we keep, unless someone's going to talk about indie show, that's another place yes, but because I think it's one of the original things that were at hollywood studios. They've already taken away great movie ride. Hollywood studios is still known as hollywood. I highly doubt that they're going to take away indiana jones talking about making a movie in hollywood and it's still that popular and it fills the um the stage area so well.

Speaker 3:

I just don't see them taking that away jack specifically, do you remember back during our rcp when they had the Star Wars day and then they had that big Darth?

Speaker 4:

Maul behind. I'm going to tell you what's actually there. You remember that building that no one cares about. That's currently there behind Rock and Roller Coaster. That's where it used to be that Cars show.

Speaker 2:

Oh, the Lightning man and the Queen. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4:

So that's kind of also available to expand into for a Monsters University type world and I bet you 10 to 1, that's probably they're like oh, monsters Incorporated, that's still popular to this day. Monsters University is just as popular, I think personally, as Monsters Incorporated, so that would mean that they really, truly wanted to expand. All they would do is have to make a pathway to the back and you have all that space that actually used to be cast member parking for special occasions for that area.

Speaker 9:

I have spent way too much time studying maps for this and this is just based on the models and amateur talking here.

Speaker 9:

But I don't think that Muppets Courtyard on its own is big enough to build an Instropolis, so you would have to put Star Tours with it.

Speaker 9:

I think obviously there's the low capacity that Jack brought up. But also one of the great things about Star Tours is they can add in new Star Wars content at any point to refresh the midstream. They don't have to retheme it, they don't have to spend a lot of money on it. So that gives them a lot of play value to it on a franchise that they're putting a ton of money in on Disney Plus, like we have a Mandalorian movie coming, all of that Right, and we see that they're willing to expand that concept because we're Mando's coming to smugglers run Right. So I think that they would be very hesitant to mess with Star Tours and I don't think you can make Muppets work without taking Star Tours my big hold up there for animation. Oh, and the other thing is that area Muppets and Star Tours comes with a nostalgic PR hit at a time when people are already upset about what's happening in Magic Kingdom.

Speaker 2:

A thousand percent yeah.

Speaker 9:

I think I read that that's the last thing Jim Henson ever did.

Speaker 2:

It is Yep. It is the last thing he worked on, yep and Star.

Speaker 9:

Tours. I think I read that that's the last thing Jim Henson ever did. It is yep. It is the last thing he worked on yep and Star Tours has like it was the original Star Wars ride. There's generations of people. There's people who prefer Star Tours to Smuggler's Run oh yeah, you know because they find it to be a more enjoyable ride. So I think that they have to be weighing that in their decision.

Speaker 9:

Animation Courtyard, I think, has a lot more space. I think nobody's going to be upset if that becomes Monstropolis. If they push back. There is space, but my understanding is that is admin offices. There's some stuff there so there would be some shuffling and relocation of those items and that's, I think, going to come down to some shuffling and relocation of those items and that's, I think, going to come down to kind of the big wigs and what they want to deal with. On that, it makes sense going into Toy Story Land, but Rockin' Roller Coaster is my pet. This is where I think it should go, because that license is running out. Aerosmith they're in their late 70s now. Generations aren't as invested in that IP at all Easy, amanda easy.

Speaker 6:

I am kind of upset. I'm not going to see him one last time.

Speaker 9:

But I'm just saying that, like, the kids that are going into Hollywood studios are not like amped up to see the Aerosmith, right.

Speaker 1:

That's their mistake.

Speaker 9:

And then you have the Cars Jr place which, with cars coming to Magic Kingdom, maybe less of a draw or need to have that duplicate IP there. And if you look at the map, behind Rock and Roller Coaster and these buildings there's a lot of green space that they can expand directly into without having to move any sort of buildings. It is like butting up into the on-ramp. So there might be some drainage or leveling or you know issues there, but I think it's a viable candidate, at least as much as Animation Courtyard is.

Speaker 4:

In terms of the office buildings, I can tell you right now those can be easily put somewhere else. I was going to say they're trailers. Right, there are trailers. You actually run past them. You guys are doing the races for the marathon and the ones that you go behind tower of terror. Those trailers, there are actually all offices and um for them to, even if the offices that were behind animation courtyard I don't even know if they're all full, there is plenty of other places to bring them. There's even like if those people don't need to be immediately at the park. Disney Springs is right next door, basically, and they have this huge building like the Sundial building that we all drive past. My boyfriend used to work there and there's so many office spaces there available. I get to see them, just moving them somewhere else.

Speaker 9:

The one perk would be, if they are willing to move it, all of the electrical and water is already in the ground, exactly. They can't fully develop it.

Speaker 4:

And, to be honest, mostly for training cast members in general. They just do it at the locations of which they're at. Like you know, they're not going to bring them backstage more often than not to go and do any studying or test taking.

Speaker 3:

I mean and I mean even within the chinese theater there are like um break rooms and office built like offices, and and all of that because that's where the um, the break room for the cinder characters, are.

Speaker 4:

Whenever I was a character attendant I mean break room for tower of terror is between the drop shafts. We hear you guys screaming all the time while watching. The price is right, come on down. Exactly, you just hear it. You hear the wing go.

Speaker 3:

And you're just like oh Bob, you almost got it.

Speaker 2:

All right. So here are my thoughts on this one, because obviously this puts me in the same territory as Jack, Alicia and John in terms of dinosaur. You keep your filthy paws off my Muppet Vision.

Speaker 4:

I mean race after them.

Speaker 2:

And to me. I'll go back to something that Amanda said. I think if you get rid of the Muppets, you're taking a massive PR hit. You're trying to mend the fences right now with the Jim Henson company. You just made Frank Oz a Disney legend. He has been very vocal against Disney in the last decade.

Speaker 2:

I think if you do this you really tick him off and and the rest of the company, and we all know how Disney fans and Disney parks fans in general have been clamoring for more Muppets into the park. Now, if you're going to put it over there, then you need to figure out someplace to relocate it. That would be the only way. I'd be thrilled with it. But the bigger part that tends to go off of this whole conversation is obviously Disney has made decisions in the last let's call it two decades that have really worked out and really haven't worked out, and to me the I think the biggest thing that has put disney behind the eight ball is the fact that we have gone on this trend way too long of closing something that has already been there and re-skinning it. If there is anything that the walt disney company, and especially in disney world, needs, it needs capacity. So to me it makes a thousand percent sense to put it in animation courtyard as opposed to putting it over near muppet vision and knocking out two attractions a table service restaurant and a quick service restaurant. Now, grant, I understand Pizza Rizzo is not the best pizza in the world, but you'd be knocking out all of that capacity in terms of park operations.

Speaker 2:

So to me, even when you looked at the, I saw some pictures on twitter of the, the animation, or the sorry the um, the monstropolis model that they had. You know, I mean it was very bare bones, but the way that the front of it looked almost was very similar in scope to what the front of the animation building looks like. So to me, it just makes too much sense the fact that they're still waffling over this. I just wish that they would come out and announce it already so us muppet fans can can sleep easier. But you know. So fingers crossed and great. I know we have a post in our facebook group right now. I just looked at it.

Speaker 2:

It only went up about three hours ago and there's over 20 comments on it about not touching Kermit, so let's hope that comes to fruition.

Speaker 4:

Well, also just to kind of point this out, like you know, that archway that we all run through to during the races by Animation Courtyard, that used to say Disney MGM Studios. I can see them keeping the archway and then literally just being able to welcome to Monstropolis Like I literally think that's what they probably will do, like here is the entrance to this new land Voila. This is like the entering into your movie, because it's Hollywood Studios. You just can't do that in the same way if you were to put it over at Muppets.

Speaker 2:

All right, we haven't even gotten to the biggest news or the most controversial news. Let's head to Magic Kingdom. The first announcement is that we are getting not Radiator Springs, but some type of Cars Land land, and it again.

Speaker 2:

It's not a repeat of what is in disney's california adventure. Uh, it's going to come with two attractions a cars off-roading attraction which I don't know is just a redo of radiator springs, racers, no one knows a very vague family friendly ride, and they said construction is going to begin in early 2025. And the big shoe that dropped Monday morning is that this is going where the rivers of America and Tom Sawyer's Island is, and at least Diz Twitter has lost its collective mind. I think probably the biggest news out of this is the fact that everyone thought this was going to go west of big thunder mountain yeah and you know, because they kept calling it beyond big thunder and now people are like maybe it's in front of a big thunder.

Speaker 2:

So I have a. I'm gonna hold back on on the, the visceral hate that is going on online right now. But, amanda, give us your take on cars coming to the magic kingdom and replacing the Rivers of America.

Speaker 9:

I just did a whole deep dive on my stories about this. I think people are very angry about cars being there and I think the true source of the anger is the IP issue. Magic Kingdom is kind of the center of non-IP park right. Pirates is original, haunted Mansion is original. There's not a whole lot of IP rides and the ones that are like the Buzz Lightyear ride that's kind of back in the corner of Tomorrowland, it's not really up and in your face. Tiana's Bayou has been the latest re-theme that involved heavy IP and that went split directions on Diz Twitter, as the saying goes.

Speaker 9:

So I think conceptually it works in the sense that Cars is in Radiator Springs, which is kind of Monument Valley, utah. Bryce Canyon is Big Thunder, so they're in the same state, radiator Springs and Bryce Canyon. They were saying that they're going to push it out and they're going beyond Radiator Springs and in the artwork you see more mountains, some trees coming in. That is very reminiscent of pushing up to more northern Utah, getting into some of the national parks that are up there. It's all geographically the same place. It's the cars aspect that I think people are really struggling with, because it's hard to imagine a car there and it does crack me up because, like, we have the creepy country bears and nobody is like upset about the animorphic bears there, but it's because of the nostalgia right and like the connection there bears there but it's because of the nostalgia right and like the connection there. My things that I'm sad about is I really like there being the water feature. I think it added a sense of place in the trees and it kept it from feeling like an all concrete park kind of like Hollywood studios can feel sometimes. It can be a little. It doesn't feel organic, it's a lot of concrete, especially in the Hollywood sections.

Speaker 9:

The thing that I think that they're going to do that I'm more intrigued by is the connection to Villain's Land, because when they fill in the rivers of America it's only on the front half in the artwork and it becomes a walkway. I think they'll build up some mountain ridges so that the haunted mansion side you're kind of looking at trees and a mountain, so it'll work from there and then the other side you're kind of getting in the, the western, where the west meets the rockies kind of deal, but the back half of rivers of america if they drain that and leave it deep and then beyond that, you drop off from the utilidor area so you have another story drop villains. Land could have some huge elevation changes and you do see in the artwork a coaster that's underground and I wonder if it could go in the trench of the Rivers of America or on the backside of that where the Utilidor stops. That would be so cool and I think that could be worth having whatever Mater's friend hanging around at Big Thunder, I don't know, it would be really cool. Um, also, if they build the villain's land, I think they'll have an entrance from fantasyland or maybe by haunted mansion. Both would work, and having a race course that could go through there would be so, so oh my gosh can you imagine like I wouldn't even care about the castle anymore, Just like?

Speaker 9:

take me through the villains, please Take me to the villains' land. Hang out with Hades.

Speaker 5:

So I guess my biggest thing that I was confused on in past conversations about how, like Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, they couldn't do anything with because of that water aspect and because, like, disney World is on like marshy area, right, like that's what it's built on top of, yeah, so I was wondering how that's gonna work when they're trying to build on top of that now, especially if they do like what you're saying, amanda, and like only do part of it. How is that going to work? And like, structurally, is it going to be sound? I don't know. Like now that it's after the fact of like the original, original construction and coming back to it and also to your point, alicia.

Speaker 3:

I thought they couldn't touch the ferry boat. That's what I thought, because there was like some historical like significance. I vaguely remember learning about that in my traditions class whenever I was training to work at the bibbidi-bobbidi boutique, like that. There was something about the history of it, or like it being an og disney ride or or something like that it's a lot.

Speaker 9:

It's a lot. What? What right, I think.

Speaker 6:

Or well, the one at disneyland was yeah, og, original rides like tiki room and um, yeah, the rivers, rivers of America, butts up to that little hideaway where they hold the boats for the nighttime water pageant parade.

Speaker 5:

Yeah.

Speaker 6:

So they'll have to basically shut down, dam off that whole area to stop the water flow going in. The only other thing I thought of with the ferry boat to kind of keep it.

Speaker 4:

Maybe they make it like another one of those little uh transportation like to and from magic kingdom kind of deal something like that, for maybe from one of the resorts, maybe the only problem is is that the boat is actually on a track yeah yeah I I heard a really interesting idea today of transport the boat to port orleans riverside and park it in there

Speaker 9:

that would be nice, that would be awesome that would be very cool and then you could have tiana meet and greets and stuff like that, there you and play on it. I think the Cars land is just kind of my tinfoil hat. I think that it is really phase one of all of the major moving of the earth moving of the construction to villains. And if they were to just do villains everything that they would have to do to get the dirt and the earth and the infrastructure in place, it would be a long time with nothing for fans. So this is a way of pulling all of that out, giving us something in the meantime and then phasing into villains. So in my mind this is like phase one of building villains land and this was the consolation prize in the meantime to be fair, if I can just kind of put this into perspective.

Speaker 4:

When it got announced it was cars, I've never felt so disappointed. But this disney is meant for a family park. If I look at, yes, we're all a disney adults, but if we look at little kids, what do they like? My nephews are obsessed with cars.

Speaker 5:

Yes.

Speaker 4:

So when this got announced my sister texted me like there's going to be cars. But why is everybody so mad? And in a sense Disney did do this ride differently, in a good way, and I'm trying to stay positive about it because I did feel very disheartened that they made it cars. But because it's not Lightning McQueen, it's not as upsetting after seeing the artwork Because having ran through Utah, arizona, all those areas I ran through those areas it looks very similar foliage from what I've ran through.

Speaker 4:

It's not a ride up in your face. You're driving through all these different hills and mountains and foliage. I mean you might see little bits and pieces of the ride, but it's not Lightning McQueen in your face. Those bright red colors, they're more subdued, they're for those kinds of fields. I mean they're Jeeps. So for me, looking at that and looking at my nephews, my twin nephews, who are obsessed, they would be so excited because this disney is meant for everybody, not just disney adults. You gotta remember there's little kids involved. What they love may be different than what we love and disney knows that and I think having cars there is actually a good thing that's why there's been 16 000 cars movies exactly.

Speaker 3:

Only the first two are good, but we're not telling little kids. That is actually a good thing.

Speaker 4:

That's why there's been 16,000 Cars movies Exactly. Only the first two are good, but we're not telling the little kids that Right?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I mean there's like Cars and Planes and more Cars and like Cars 52 or something like that, I don't know.

Speaker 9:

So I wonder if one I agree this is something for the younger children, and I hope that means that the villain's land will be a little bit more adult.

Speaker 9:

That was made for the adults, yes, but also one I wondered are they going to make a cars for that goes more into the wilderness and introduce these characters and bring more synergy? Cause? It has been a little while since we've had some of the major shorts on Disney plus and the cars franchise. But to your point about kids loving driving cars, I always thought it was a little weird that Disneyland is moving their Speedway to electric vehicles, but we haven't gotten an update about Disney World, where you have like the gasoline and it's smelly and it's loud, right, I was like why wouldn't you do it in both? I would think you would just place the order double, you know, for the cars. And now I'm wondering if you provide a cars ride, like just physically driving cars, not just that it's themed cars for which there's going to be a Monstropolis right. So those two IPs are now redundant. You could take and redo all of Tomorrowland in a very big way and remove Speedway while still having a cars ride that you know kids love.

Speaker 6:

I absolutely agree if they were going to do that and the Speedway always gets renovated every time they do any kind of construction in that area.

Speaker 9:

Yeah, I think it could open the door for a lot of expansion in Tomorrowland, down the road.

Speaker 3:

And to your point as well. I mean, tomorrowland isn't very tomorrow anymore. No it needs some love, mm-hmm.

Speaker 4:

TLC Yep.

Speaker 2:

I want to thank Jack and Amandaanda for bringing up that. That fact about cars now granted me personally. No, I'm I'm not excited that it's cars, but I get it and I understand it because there's actually a great story um that, that podcast I I referenced earlier in the episode, the Disney dish with Len test and Jim Hill. Apparently, if you look at new fantasy land, the original plans for that we're going to include more princess meet and greets and it was also going to have a Tinkerbell ride and like the Tinker fairies or whatever. And at the time, tom stags, who was, uh, essentially in the same role that josh tomorrow is in now, he came back and showed it to his two young sons and their comment to him was what's there for us to do, dad?

Speaker 2:

exactly and that's why we got seven dwarves mind train and I think Magic Kingdom still has that problem.

Speaker 9:

I agree with you Exactly.

Speaker 2:

Obviously, boys can be princesses I fully embrace that but at the same time, though, for boys who don't want to be princesses, they need something that can attract to them, and I think this is why they went with that. The one thing, though, that I want to bring up before we move on to the least important part of this whole conversation is? Is anybody viscerally upset that rivers of america and the riverboat are going away like like this?

Speaker 1:

twitter is right now no not really not okay there's a little connection.

Speaker 3:

It was a fun ride to yeah yeah, there's like the little nostalgia connection, history type thing.

Speaker 2:

But but like it's not like disney went indiana jones on you and like ripped, ripped your heart out of your chest or anything like that right I've never ridden it okay there we go I've never, but I like the vibes.

Speaker 9:

I like like strolling around and having the water in the trees, but I'm I'm kind of relying a lot of disney imagineering making the wilderness expansion look cool. So I am putting some faith in their construction abilities here.

Speaker 4:

But I'm not upset about losing the I think cast members will for a very small reason.

Speaker 2:

The canoe races.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, the canoe races are such a cast member exclusive event. Having done it myself, it's something cast members look forward to every year getting to do the canoes and going around that area, it's always fun. I mean, I still have little videos of myself doing it and it's something iconic and it's just like another thing that cast members are's always fun. I mean, I still have little videos of myself doing it and it's something iconic and it's just like another thing that cast members are getting taken away. So hopefully, with that being taken away, they take care of the cast members and doing something else.

Speaker 6:

Well, the other elephant in the room that we have not talked about and I didn't see it on your list is that the railroad might be going down again for all this construction.

Speaker 9:

That we just got out yeah, I have a theory about that. Though, if they go under it or like use the trench, like the railroad would only go down if you really tore the tracks out, because, like tron, they had to take a big piece of it out and then put it back in. I think if they can somehow go under or build a bridge into villains land, we might avoid the railroad interruption. And even then, I think it's only when we bridge into Villain's. I think that they could potentially get cars without that. But watch them. Just say it's gone for the next five years. I'm going to put it in for like a brief second.

Speaker 6:

Right, I'm just looking at the maps and riding that ride. I'm just looking at the maps and riding that ride.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, I mean, if they would have done the whole original West of Big Thunder Mountain, then sure yeah, you have the railroad down for the rest of the decade probably. But the fact that everything's now in front of it, I think, saves it. I still think it's going to have to go down, regardless of however they do, villains, but at least I don't think it's going to be as an extended but um, you know it. I'm glad everyone brought up villains. I I had this whole shtick planned about how I wasn't going to talk about villains and then I was going to create a visceral reaction out of lexi just how, like you know it caused her on saturday night, when we hope.

Speaker 2:

when we thought the whole presentation was over, I called it though.

Speaker 3:

Okay, but I've got to tell my story to the listeners of that night, okay, so we?

Speaker 6:

had this One hour later.

Speaker 3:

We had this text on our message. We were me and Greg and Alicia and Jack and we were chatting back and forth through this whole thing and they did all of what seemed like all of the Parks announcements and I was like okay, that was anticlimactic. And then Josh gets up on stage and starts making his closing remarks Like oh well, thank you all for coming. And like the amount of disappointment that I felt in my body, I was just like it is over. And then Fire shoots, fire shoots. And then the enchanted mirror comes on the back screen and it is 1 am at my house and everybody is asleep and I sat straight up in bed and poor little scooby, he looked up at me and um, and I kind of did like because I couldn't scream very loud um, and then I just started crying like literally had tears on my face.

Speaker 2:

I mean it's going to be an exciting venture for them for sure. I mean, again, you know everyone's looked at the concept art it looks like a roller coaster. You know, josh said that it's going to feature two attractions shopping and dining. So maybe we'll get that long rumored Haunted Mansion restaurant.

Speaker 2:

But I mean, I think, in terms of things being vague in terms of Orlando, this is going to be our vague thing. I mean, I know they did say that all of this is going to be happening in the next five years, but whether it's all going to be opening in the next five years, we really don't know that. And I mean, in looking at it from the run Disney aspect of things, you know, the thing that I was interested about is that, again, as we've mentioned a few times, if they would have gone west of big thunder mountain, I think that would have had a pretty big impact on run disney because of how we exit out over the train tracks and and then we go behind splash and big thunder a little bit. Um, you know, for any course, course or half course that features the Magic Kingdom and now I think that saves that and really I think the biggest run Disney impact and we probably won't see it for at least half a decade, if not longer.

Speaker 4:

Goodness me, please no.

Speaker 2:

I think we'll get even more part time in Magic Kingdom and I think that is super, super exciting, but again we're going to have to wait for that is. That is super, super exciting, but again we're gonna have to wait for that for a while.

Speaker 5:

I agree, greg and I've talked about this on the podcast before that Magic Kingdom is my least favorite park and I'm hopeful that the million years down the road when they actually complete construction because we know that it takes forever. But I'm hopeful that I'll actually enjoy Magic Kingdom again once this is done.

Speaker 3:

Two things First of all, please do a pull-the-lever-cronk ride, because that would be awesome. And people have talked about it for decades. And second of all, please put meet-and-greets with the villains in there. I think they're going to be strolling no, not in Walt Disney World.

Speaker 4:

Well, they did it at star wars and it worked okay yeah, I just don't see that.

Speaker 3:

I think I don't see that happening, um, but I hope they do more than like no offense to them, but just the evil stepsisters and like give me more of what's at halloween and put hey, I know they have a hades costume, I know they have a dr facilier costume, which dr facilier would be a really awesome ride, but it may be a little too scary for the children that's the whole point of the areas they're trying to combat what universal is doing.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, that's the whole thing you need that scary ride, I think because, like I said, I loved alien encounter.

Speaker 3:

I thought it was awesome, it was a really great ride, but it was too scary for magic kingdom at the time well, also like, if you've looked at the concept art for the other park um epic universe, the their um, it's like frankenstein and dracula themed. It's gonna be really scary. It's gonna be like halloween horror nights in the non-halloween time.

Speaker 2:

Yeah well, I mean, the one advantage that disney will have here is that they'll be able to wait until epic does open, see how scary that ride is and how it translates to guests, and I think that can help them dictate how how to handle it. So for once I actually think disney, being the second player into the game, I think might have have some advantages here I want, I want everything to be a bar which is like now for some reason I feel like villains.

Speaker 9:

I'm like I want Ursula's potions and cauldrons. I want Ursula's potions and cauldrons. It just seems to fit very well and like we're going to call it a lounge, we'll call it a lounge?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and Magic Kingdom doesn't have like a lounge? No, and Magic Kingdom doesn't have like a lounge. Well, they're going to get pirates.

Speaker 9:

The pirates, one Pirates which I don't think that'll affect the Red Disney course, but post race enjoyment maybe. But yeah, I will. So I feel like the Pirates Lounge and the announcement of the Spaceship Earth Lounge is their way of having a nice lounge in every part, because nomads lounge and animal kingdom and ogres and videos.

Speaker 9:

Both of those do really well and are very, very, very popular, very hard to get in, and I think it's a reflection of just like, over time, how people's expectations and what they want out of an experience change. You know, 20 years ago bars were just different things. The cocktail scene or craft cocktails weren't as big of a deal. I actually think we also see that with coffee as well.

Speaker 9:

Oh, for sure, all of the older hotels that kind of have like no real coffee options, but then the Riviera has an actual coffee shop with espresso options and lattes and things like that Coronado. They built it like Grand Floridian, doesn't you know? So I think I think the lounges is their way of leveling up and getting all four parks having a place to do that.

Speaker 5:

I think that would be really cool, amanda. Going back to back to your point, greg, of seeing how Universal does, I just hope that they do it in a well-mannered attention to detail and rather than dumb it down so much that it's still. I know that Disney World is for kids too, but I don't want them to dumb it down so much that it's like kiddy when it comes to the villains. Does that make sense?

Speaker 4:

There's a roller coaster though back there and it looks actually pretty cool and intense yeah. To be honest, so I don't know.

Speaker 6:

That's, that's what they need. They need some bigger thrill rides.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, going back to the running aspect, I actually have two things to say. But going back to the running aspect of it, I actually don't think we'll ever get a chance to run through there. Um, in the villain's land, well, here, big I, I'm dreaming, but that might be a dream. It's the blue sky, feeling okay and um, here's why I say that, because if you look back at pandora, it's a darker area to run through. There's not a lot of lights. If you look at the concept art that they provided, it's very dark, and one of the biggest complaints that people had when they were running through pandora was the one that it was slick and two was hard to see. So, with that being said, I just don't think it's probably going to be the same issue, unfortunately, with villain's land. As much as I would love to run through there and they might try it once to see how it is people like to complain and when people complain, they take away things that a lot of other people might like yeah do you know what I mean?

Speaker 4:

like I truly loved going through pandora and people keep saying I wish we could go back through Pandora if we were going through Animal Kingdom, but I got taken away because of I get the safety of it. I do, but they could always. Disney just takes things away. They don't try and find a way to improve it by providing lights you know what I mean.

Speaker 6:

We ran through it for the springtime first springtime 5k. That was dark yeah, it was really dark they.

Speaker 4:

Um, if they do end up doing a big expansion to tomorrowland, they may be forced to go through villains to get the the mileage made up that would be cool yeah and that might be when they test it but also my last thing I kind of wanted to, which I didn't realize that people would be upset about when Villain's Land got announced and it was going to be a Magic Kingdom. I thought Villain's Land was perfectly placed in Magic Kingdom, but I guess I saw that people were upset because why would you put a villain's place inside a place that is meant for happiness? It's the happiest place on earth, with magic make me happy, okay, but I know.

Speaker 4:

But here's my thing if we're looking at a cinderella story, there is always a villain in it, so when the firework show has a villain's segment.

Speaker 4:

So exactly that makes sense and so when they say this is all about happiness, this is where happiness, and only happiness is where it is, at, it makes it weird. When you look at all the stories that disney's ever ever created, there is always somewhere where there is like a villain, whether it be a castle, or mufasa or you know, or hades. There's all these places. Where do the villains go? The villains are in those stories too. They have a place to be.

Speaker 6:

They go to hell thanks, john, that's right.

Speaker 9:

No, they have um a thematic connection too, because it's usually the enchanted forest, right like a forest, and the bad bad person's castle or whatever, like snow white it's, she's in the forest and like there's always a connection with either woods or wilderness. That's why I feel like they leaned into the wilderness aspect. Going into villain's land, it would provide walls to the sight lines, but also it leads into, like the dark wood that you don't enter because it's dangerous is where the villains live, and then the bright castle is where all the happy people live and it fits, it works and then all the parents can tell their children that dark, shadowy place we don't go there yes, except that place mommy and daddy do.

Speaker 4:

It's okay, we're gonna go over there.

Speaker 3:

We're gonna go to the dark, shadowy place to make sure it's safe well, gang, this has been an absolutely amazing conversation.

Speaker 2:

I I love how we were able to, you know, tie again all of these great announcements into um. You know how it can affect run disney in the next, you know, half a decade to a decade. Amanda, thank you so much for your time and your insights real quick. If people want to reach out to you, learn more about yourself or your awesome website, how can they go ahead and reach you?

Speaker 9:

So I'm on Instagram at once upon a marathon, and then my website is what's upon a marathoncom and that's where we have training plans and guides on how to register and all the fun stuff there.

Speaker 2:

Excellent, and when will we be seeing you at a race?

Speaker 9:

again, I'm doing the marathon, marathon when you're at 25.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, All right, we will see you in January then. All right, amanda, thank you so much, and we'll have to have you back again soon after the next D 23 and 2026.

Speaker 9:

Hopefully sooner than that.

Speaker 2:

Well, amanda, once again, thank you so much for your knowledge and your expertise.

Speaker 2:

When it comes to all the news and the impacts and how that leads to the speculating and spiraling, I know I love it. I know we had a blast talking about it and just hearing some of the reaction of last week's episode, people were really enjoying that as well. So so, again, we cannot thank you enough for your time, but I did want to give an update and and this goes to show how great the rise and run community is one of the things that we had chatted about last week, uh, during the D23 discussion, was would there potentially be an impact when it came to all the construction that's going on at Test Track 3.0? And literally, as last week's episode came out, I received an Instagram message from our friend, taylor, who essentially, was acting as our boots on the ground for us, actually by accident, so her daughter was actually needing to take a nap while they were in Epcot last week and she just happened to take her nap in the quiet area between the mission space and test track, and this is the message that I got from taylor.

Speaker 2:

she goes I should have taken a picture when I was there, um, but I?

Speaker 2:

um totally think that the exit out of epcot for the races is going to be impacted oh the walls are up uh, right before where you go under test track past mission space, coming from mission space, they block the entire section right there. But also, in looking at google maps, the construction looks like it's updated in the satellite uh images and apparently the area that is just beyond those walls right now is a big pile of dirt. Oh so, unless something changes, I think we might have some new uh exits for at least wine and dine. You know, maybe things get gussied up in time for marathon weekend, but, um, let's just stay tuned when we get the event guy for wine and dine here in just a couple of weeks time, because it looks like, if that still holds true, uh, that could definitely be impacted. So, taylor, thank you so much for uh that report. We greatly appreciate it. And, um, yeah, once again, thanks again uh to amanda for an absolutely amazing discussion uh that we were able to spread out over the course of two episodes or greg.

Speaker 6:

We have a spartan race. You have to climb the wall there we go climb the wall to get over. Climb the wall.

Speaker 2:

No, let's, let's not do that, because if not, we know our buddy taryn is going to be all over that and I know she's dealing with some hip stuff right now and we need her healthy for dopey, so let's pretend we didn't say that, okay.

Speaker 1:

I was thinking the same thing. Well, looking ahead, marathon weekend, the 5k we're still working on the 101 Dalmatians. Just want to remind you that the shirts are still available and they're going great. People have received theirs. They look terrific. We will have Alec from Kawhi and Pizza Apparel with us in a couple of weeks. Talk about it. She'll give you an idea of what the last date it is that you can order. Again, I remind you, if you order from Kauai and Pizza Apparel, there is no discount on the Dalmatian shirt. Pizza apparel there is no discount on the Dalmatian shirt. However, you can use the rise and run code to get a discount on anything else you order from KPA and if your order totals $50 or more, including the Dalmatian shirt, you can use the code FREESHIP50 to get free shipping. Well, while we're talking about shirts and stuff, john, what's new with the Rise and Run shop?

Speaker 6:

Well, over at the shop. We have our free sale going on so we can chill with the villains. We're all in this together. Shirts coming out there, we have our where's my super suit for springtime, john, you're, you're feeling the most important one.

Speaker 2:

How do you feel?

Speaker 6:

well, we're cooking up a really good shirt, work, work mark, we're starting naming back and yes, we got all.

Speaker 6:

We got a little sayings on the back of the shirts for all the race weekends. They're for sale. We have the headbands for pre-sale. We do have some visors left. Those visors are going hot, so if you want a visor, better get yourself in there. Those aren't pre-order, those are in stock and the pre-sale ends the 24th. We might extend it, probably extend it till Monday, just because I've figured with a week. Give you the weekend to place the last bit of orders and just so get them. Get them on it, cause once the pre-orders closed you have to wait till we get anything in stock to order anything. So if you want, want it for the race weekend, I would get it for the race weekend. I would uh get it for the 24th all right, thanks, john.

Speaker 2:

We had a contest going on, greg yes, so we got so entrenched in the d23 talk last week that we completely forgot to draw names, uh, for the little contest that we were running in, uh, in celebration of the shop reopening. If you had left us a review on Apple Podcasts, we were going to give away three of our awesome new post-race bags that our friend Stephanie has made for us. So we're going to go ahead and do the honors here. We're going to draw three names. Our first name as the Wheel fortune, uh, wheel of names is spinning here, uh, so if you go by the handle on apple of db, sb, c, jv, uh, please send us an email at the gang at rise and run podcast with your name and address. So, uh, we can, uh, so we can send that out to you, uh, but let's, uh, let's spin here for two more names. Next up on the list, muser is our second winner and, last but not least, the final Don't get bankrupt Greg.

Speaker 2:

I'm trying not to get bankrupt here or lose a turn. Our final winner goes to with the handle of NoLClark, spelled N-O-L-C-L-A-R-K-E. No? L clark, spelled n? O dash l? C? L? A caught a r k? E. So again for those three handles. On apple podcast, please send us an email to the gang at rise and run podcastcom with uh. Please tell us uh that which screen name is yours, your name and address, and we will get that shipped out to you in short order. And thank you to everyone who entered into this little contest. We really appreciate it.

Speaker 1:

Appreciate it. We talked about the Disneyland Halloween race weekend being just two weeks away. If you haven't already done so, get your name on the race report. If you haven't already done so, get your name on the race report. The Rise and Run tradition continues anew with this season of the race report roll call. We love reading off all the names of the folks who will be running. It used to be done in like 12 seconds, now it takes a couple minutes, but it's wonderful and it's fun. So get your names in there.

Speaker 1:

Don't forget our meetup, the Disneyland meetup, saturday 3 pm at the downtown Disney area. The area is pointed out on the map. I keep saying I'm going to go check it out as soon as I get there, but I'm not sure I'll know it when I see it. I think I will, though I think I will. I think I'm told that the map is correct and it is the area as you're looking at. The entrance to the magic kingdom is towards the left and it's over where the trams drop off. I believe it's an area the trams drop off. I believe it's an area over there, but I'll get one of our local experts to show it to me. Say right here, bob, this is the place. So that's our Disneyland meetup and the FitFab Disney folks at either the Dolphin or the Swan Marathon weekend on that Friday. That's still out there.

Speaker 1:

Our friends at Zippity Tees have a new line of Halloween t-shirts and, as I said to them on their Instagram post, I already have too many t-shirts. And, as I said to them on their instagram post, I already have too many t-shirts. I will take one of these, please, but I wanted to remind our friends that they've been kind enough to give us a discount code there. So take a look at the zippity. Zippity t's new line, and the rise and run code works for 10 off on that order and I almost forgot to use it. I got, I got all done. I went. Man, that's a lot for a t. Oh, I got a code. Okay, I'm in, good to go.

Speaker 2:

So I look forward to getting that yeah, yeah, thanks so much, rob for uh, for the reminder on the pop-up. I was, uh texting with krist the other day. She's been giving me an update on ticket sales and, as of now, we are less than 10 tickets left to the event. So if you are interested in attending, we have the link in the show notes. It also is in our Facebook group. It's also on the Dopey Strong Facebook group as as well. It's through eventbrite. So if you're interested, uh, head over to that website to purchase your ticket, and we're really looking forward to the wonderful activation that uh, the ladies are going to be leading everyone in, and then again, um, the thing that we're looking forward to, and the reason why they want to invite us to be part of this, is the live recording, um of a podcast between rise and run and um run fit fab. It's going to be fabulous, so get your tickets before, uh, they're all gone run fit fab, I think I said fit fab disney I close enough I know fit and fabric.

Speaker 1:

It's wonderful. I love the ladies, I love what they do and I'm looking forward to it myself. Talked about it a bit. Here's what's coming up next week. We have in the Race Report Spotlight, we have three runners who participated in the Marathon Port 2, the marathon that was run between the men's and the women's marathon over at the Olympics in Paris. We also have a 10K runner who participated in that event. Episode 153, our Council of Costumes returns. It's been a little while, but it's time to bring them back. Got some new faces on the council, some challenges. We got people all over the place, but that is always a fun episode. So look forward to that, john. I think we have some new reviews.

Speaker 6:

So I'll read some of those reviews of the people that won our contest From DBSBCJV. I enjoy listening to the podcast every week while running or driving. I am always agreeing with the team or laughing at the things they're talking about. I have also learned a lot about my training from listening. Thanks for keeping me going All right and PMF user. As someone that's not a fan of running, this podcast has gotten me through many long runs. The rise and run team is awesome. Each podcast is funny, educational and fun to listen to, and the last one is Noel Clark Carry on, carry on. I started listening last year when my cousin found you and binged about 30 episodes at the time to catch up. Congrats to 150 episodes. I love listening during my runs because I get distracted in the conversation and fun times. Last year at princess was my first run disney event and I've learned a lot from listening to you all. I'll be tackling dopey next and looking forward to more entertaining episodes. Happy running, oh, happy running.

Speaker 2:

I love it does it still like shock anyone that someone finds as bingeable? I'm like that's a lot of us when you binge us back to back to back.

Speaker 1:

We love it we love the support.

Speaker 2:

But who would have thought that three years ago someone would say they'd be?

Speaker 6:

binging us. The first couple episodes were easy to binge because they were short. Those training run episodes take two hours, four hours. Well, I can't tell you how much we appreciate it, those training run episodes take two hours, four hours.

Speaker 1:

Well, I can't tell you how much we appreciate it. We appreciate you leaving the reviews, taking the time to do it.

Speaker 5:

Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

I realize we offered a little motivation this time, but you still had to do it and we are grateful. Love the kind words. Hey, look, if you got something you don't like so much, you can tell us that too. It's okay. Well, maybe just tell Greg, okay. But no, no, it's great, gang, it's great, it's wonderful. It's such a fantastic feeling to be part of this family, and thank you for leaving those reviews. One last note before we get to the race report. Brandy left us a message. Hashtag fairy tale challenge baby had not been shared with the group up till now, so this is the newest member of the Rise and Run family. His name is Warren. He was born about two months ago, which would make him about two months old. I did the math. I did the math, warren, emily. Congratulations. Thanks for sharing that. We love hearing those kinds of stories and we look forward to Warren's first 5k, which is going to come up quicker than you think you you know, what we need now is we need a baby for every race weekend.

Speaker 2:

It's because we have hashtag dopey baby. Now we have hashtag fairy challenge baby, so so we need, we need babies now for the uh, the remaining race week I suspect we haven't, greg.

Speaker 1:

I suspect we do. We've. So many of these women have been tough enough to run. Well, you know, five months pregnant, eight months pregnant. It's remarkable and I suspect they're out there, but yeah, so thanks, thanks, brenny, for letting us know and thanks for letting us share in that joyful news. All right, my friends, it's time for the race report.

Speaker 1:

The race report is brought to you by our friend, tom at Stoked Metabolic Training, stokesfit slash, rise and run coaching. It's the website. Now Tom's got a new offer. Okay, we are wrapping up the Stoked Summer Challenge. We've all been a part of it and I will speak for myself.

Speaker 1:

You guys can add whatever you'd like. I have gained a great deal out of it. I think we got to start a little bit early, so I'm already eight weeks into it and I can tell the difference. I like it. Now here's what he's got going forward. Okay, he's got. He's going to come up with three levels of coaching and level one.

Speaker 1:

Let me bring this up here. Three tiers, three tiers, three tiers. You start with the foundations tier. Now. This tier basically includes the workout plan. It doesn't include the weekly meetups and it doesn't include much in nutrition monitoring. But if you're somebody who needs a workout plan for your lifestyle to improve your body composition and you already feel you got a decent handle on nutrition, this might be the one for you. That's the foundations plan and we'll have this information available for you by the time the episode goes live. The second level is called Stoked Accelerate. This includes weekly group coaching check-ins. Those have been part of the summer challenge also. They've been very successful and very well received Nutrition guidance in this one also. And then, finally, you've got Stoked Premier, which, lexi and Jack, it wasn't called that when y'all started, I think it was just called Stoke Metabolic Training, but he's branched out so much. That's his original. You can talk on that for a second if you'd like, lexi.

Speaker 3:

Sure, that's Tom's, I guess, one-on-one training. We have calls once a week and that's been really nice, especially because with my plan, we are really focusing on the nutrition side of it and making sure that I'm eating enough food, I'm eating the right kinds of food in order to speed up my metabolism. And if anybody doesn't know specifically about metabolic training which we've talked about it before and we talked about it when Tom was here a few weeks ago If you have a hard time losing weight and you're like, oh my gosh, I'm doing all the right things and the weight's not coming off, like what's going on the, the training that Tom does really does a deeper dive into that, because metabolism is so specified to your biology and it's not like a cookie cutter one size fits all, and so it's been really beneficial with me training with him and like we're just getting. I've been with him for two and a half months now.

Speaker 1:

That's right yeah.

Speaker 3:

We're just getting to the point now where we're going to do my first drop, dropping calories, because my metabolism has sped up so much over the past two and a half months that it can handle the lower deficit and I'm really excited to see what's going to happen there. But also, he also told me on my call earlier today. He was like do you need me to text you at 7 am whenever you're supposed to wake up and go to the gym? And I said yes, please, I would appreciate that. Yeah, so overall I love the program so far and it's been really good.

Speaker 1:

Well, tom's a great guy to work with. I was talking with him earlier tonight. He has become so busy because of this and because of your reaction, friends. But here's the good news. I mean, first of all, that's good news. He's offering three levels of training. He's got a discount for Rise and Run listeners. If you're joining the Foundations group, the lowest group and again we'll have this information available for you the code RISEFOUNDATIONS all one word, will get you $20 off the monthly rate. If you join the second tier, the Accelerate tier, riseaccelerate will get you $50 off the monthly rate. And tier three, using the code RISEANDRUN, is already discounted. So we've got that for you. And if you've got more questions, tom's going to be with us next week and you can pop him on Facebook and he'll be here to answer them.

Speaker 6:

Is that the first 20 people, Bob, or is that just everybody?

Speaker 1:

It is the first 20. I'm sorry, I should have read that it's discounted on signups for the first 20 people on each tier. Thank you, john, for clarifying.

Speaker 6:

Don't want Tom get mad at us.

Speaker 1:

All right Back to the race report and let us start on Friday with the RRCA women's distance festival 5k in Binghamton, new York. Brenda and Steve were there, brenda running, steve volunteering as this was an all-women's event. Steve left the report though, said it was great to see moms and daughters and maybe even some granddaughters and grandmoms running together. Got to see, as a volunteer, a little bit of behind the scenes what it takes to put on a race like this. If you have the opportunity, steve says, do it Volunteer, for at least one. Also had a chance to cheer for his wife while having all the focus on her and supporting her, which she usually does for him. Congratulations, brenda and Steve. Thanks for volunteering. Congratulations, brenda and Steve. Thanks for volunteering.

Speaker 1:

On Saturday, rachel and Ken ran the Boot Scootin' Boogie Brew Fest 5K in Londonbury, new Hampshire. I looked. I really wanted to hear a report on this one gang but didn't see one. However, rachel and Ken were there. Christina did the Cruise in Shoes 5K in Royal Oak, michigan, running on Woodward Avenue which hosts the Woodward Dream Cruise, through several neighborhoods and finishes in front of a local high school. Fifth time running this event, and for Christina this one was a PR In Orlando, florida.

Speaker 1:

The Track Shack's celebration of running 5K Tracy. This one kicks off the 24-25 Track Shack race series. They run it through the fall and winter. Tracy is registered for all six of the races in the series. The course is hillier than other orlando races. It's still orlando there, but that golly, there are still hills. Uh, there are relief periods of shade. Balance things out a little bit. This one sold out. A lot of friends there signed up for the whole thing too, just as she did no PR, but it was the strongest pace Tracy's run in the last couple months. Tom, the Tom we were just talking about ran this 5K, as did Jared, tabitha, mike, larry and Esther ran it together. Nice day by Florida standards and it truly was no PRs, but they still had fun. We got a little bit of a break from the humidity on that Saturday and it felt just glorious.

Speaker 1:

Let's go up to New York City. The New York Roadrunners, greta's Great Gallop 10K, grace and Megan ran this one. To Roswell we go no, not Roswell New Mexico, roswell, georgia. The Area 13.1 Alien Half Marathon got canceled. Jenna, elizabeth and Sherry all signed up First ever DNS for Jenna. Rolling storms in the area Not much you can do when there's lightning in the area. Is it really a DNS, bob? Yeah, it did not start. Yeah, well, the race didn't start. Yeah, a lot of times. I know what you're saying, john.

Speaker 5:

I was supposed to have two clients there and I was really disappointed that they didn't get to run as worthy yeah, there's not.

Speaker 1:

I have two clients there and I was really disappointed that they didn't get to run as worthy.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, there's not much you can do when there's that many storms in the area.

Speaker 1:

It's disappointing. It's disappointing when you train, especially for something like a half, and then you don't get to run it. Jenna said they got caught in the downpour. Elizabeth said they wound up running the streets of Roswell in the parking lot to get the miles done. Going to try it again next year. Sherry says she'll treat it as a virtual half later to earn the medal. But we had that Roswell Georgia race and then on Sunday. Well, when we get to it, we'll talk about Sunday In Texas, stephenville, texas, the Stephenville Running Club inaugural beer run.

Speaker 1:

Jason ran this 3.2 mile out and back course. You could do a 5K, a 10K, a half or a full. At the end of each loop you could choose a beer, a non-alcoholic beer, whatever drink you brought with you. Jason did the half as a catered training run. So for him, four loops and four beers. I didn't know that that was part of catered training runs, drinking beers, but I honestly I don't think I could have done it. But he did. That wasn't quite enough. He also helped himself to a couple of mimosas and a prickly pear margarita that others brought along. It was a hot race. I'm surprised he noticed, but he had a lot of fun. After the fun was over, back home for a shower and a much-needed nap. I can only imagine.

Speaker 2:

I thought you were going to say another beer.

Speaker 1:

It should have been.

Speaker 6:

It's a road beer yeah.

Speaker 1:

Jason, I hope somebody drove you back. Yeah, let's move to Nashville, tennessee, the St Swayze Classic 5-ish K. As in Patrick Swayze, it's an annual event. Amy was there. Amy left us a long report. She calls this a play in two acts. She calls this a play in two acts. Act one was Saturday, the day of the race, where she planned to do four miles. See, she had six on her training schedule. She planned to do four and then two more later to make up the six, but the heat got to her. Apparently, the course wasn't all that well marked. Changing plans. Back to the bar where they're celebrating St Swayze's birthday. Couldn't get enough to drink she's talking water this time. Stood around for the raffles in as much cool shade as they could find. Couldn't call off the side. That's it. I'm going to punt because I've got to work at the Titans game later. Get it, punt Titans game later. Get it, punt Titans game.

Speaker 2:

See what she did there.

Speaker 1:

See what I see that.

Speaker 2:

No coincidence, I see that.

Speaker 1:

A coincidence pun intended. What she did is Sunday went out was a little cooler. It rained overnight a little cooler, so Amy finished out her five miles.

Speaker 2:

I ended up getting seven for the weekend, but kind of the long way around, good job do you think, like the, what would be great for like a finish line is as if you were running, like you were finishing, like the? You know the iconic scene in dirty dancing where, instead of crossing the finish line, you had to, like, jump into somebody's arms, and then they hold you up and cross you over the finish line. That would that would be an amazing end to a Swayze run.

Speaker 6:

You have the time of your life. Way to go, John.

Speaker 2:

Way to go, John.

Speaker 6:

Way to go.

Speaker 2:

I like it, hey, John ditto.

Speaker 1:

All the entrants could pair up. You know you have to run as a. Yeah, I like it. All right. That wraps up Saturday Friends. Let's move to Sunday and start in Falmouth, massachusetts, for the 52nd running of the Falmouth Road Race, and it's part of our race report spotlight. Tonight we have with us Ashley.

Speaker 8:

Oh hi.

Speaker 1:

And you know the funny thing is, we rehearsed that Anyway, Amy.

Speaker 7:

Hi and Leanne. Hi guys, I'm Leanne. I'm from northern Maine, where I'm literally looking at Canada. That's how far.

Speaker 1:

Wow, way up north.

Speaker 7:

I know.

Speaker 1:

Wow, got to be pretty up there.

Speaker 7:

It really is yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

All right Now. First question Are you all from the New England area? Ashley's shaking her head, Amy is, and Leanne already told us she was.

Speaker 8:

Falmouth or Falmouth.

Speaker 1:

Falmouth, falmouth. Okay, thank you, no problem. I lived up there four and a half years, no, just three years. I just lived up there three years, but I don't get them all right. I get Worcester and Leominster right. Uh, I don't get them all right. I get wister and lemonster right, but I don't get them right well, thank you for joining us on the race report.

Speaker 1:

Race report spotlight. Ladies, let's start, please, like we typically do. We'd like to get to know a little bit more about you and we'd like to know how you got started in running. And I'll go in reverse order of how we introduced ourselves. Leanne, I'll start with you, please.

Speaker 7:

Yeah. So I actually only started running about four years ago. Covid happened and I am not a runner, I was the girl at gym class. We would like only run where the coach could see us and we'd get around the building and then we would walk around. That was totally me. And COVID happened. It was 2020. And I said I got to start doing something and just to kind of back up.

Speaker 7:

My son has a really rare condition called hemophilia, where his blood doesn't clot, and so I love fundraising and I was on the board for a lot of different things, and Hemophilia Federation of America became a charity partner for Run Disney for the 2021. And I said, oh my gosh, we love Disney. I'm, you know, my son has hemophilia like we're very involved in the community, I said if I'm ever going to start running, now is the time to do it. Well, I started Jeff Galloway, I started walking, walk, run and I did my first run Disney race, raising money for Hemophilia Federation of America for Princess 2021, which went virtual. But there was an amazing group of individuals that I found on Instagram and we all met up in celebration and we ran the 10K together at Disney and then we ran the half marathon together.

Speaker 7:

So I consider really that my first run Disney half marathon it was like my heart, yeah. And then I just I was addicted, right. It becomes this amazing thing. It's like Disney and running and all these people and there's characters. And so then I did Wine and Dine Challenge, that next fall I did Wine and Dine Challenge 2022. And then I ran my first marathon at Disney 2023. So, yeah, I am a total run Disney addict.

Speaker 1:

That's awesome. A lot of folks started running during COVID. Most of them dropped off. So good for you, Amy. How about you? How'd you get started so?

Speaker 7:

we didn't plan this, but I have a really similar story. I really started running three years ago. The only race I've ever run before I got into running Disney was the Falmouth Road Race, because my husband's from Falmouth in the summers and we've been together 24 years, so I've run that race a bunch of times. But I always said I'll never run more than seven miles because that sounded every time I couldn't believe I did it, and so we had a Disney trip planned in 2019. That was wonderful.

Speaker 7:

We had another one planned in 2020 because I all of a sudden really wanted to go back all the time, and then that got canceled, and so I was trying to think of ways to get back to Disney, and around that time in 2021, I heard about Disney coming back, but that was the first time I had ever even heard of it. And then I realized that if I was training for half marathons at Disney World, nobody could say wait, why are you going back to Disney then? So I decided to make that my thing and I was supposed to do the 2022 Princess Half and I ended up getting a stress fracture in my leg from training improperly.

Speaker 7:

And I've learned a lot since then, and so my first Disney race was Springtime 2022, and that was the Tower of Terror, 10 miler, and that was a really I just feel like that was still a really special day and um, I've been at every single race weekend in Disney World since then and one at Disneyland and, um, it's just my passion, and so I've run 10 half marathons of in and out of Disney world, a bunch of other races, and now I'm training for my first dopey this January.

Speaker 1:

Good for you Good for you Amy. Yeah, Ashley, go ahead. How about you?

Speaker 8:

Yeah, so I actually come from a very long line of family runners. My dad's done Boston since I was like five or six, um so yeah he's done.

Speaker 8:

I think his first one was like either the 97th or the 98th, so he's been in it for a while, um. So then 2013,. Um, I did my first half, um, but realized very quickly I was not ready to give up my social life, that you had to give up in order to train. So I quit that for a little while and then I really jumped on the bandwagon at 2019. And then my dad has glaucoma and so he lost his eyesight pretty quickly. He still can see, you know, a little bit here and here off his peripherals, but I've been able to guide him now. For what are we on? This is coming up on five years, um. So really after 2019, I jumped on that Disney bandwagon. We've done every you know between wine and dines and princesses and marathon weekends and all of the above, and then we moved on to the majors.

Speaker 1:

So, um, oh, wow, yeah, Was that in the photos? Was that dad running with you at Falmouth?

Speaker 8:

Yeah, we run for Achilles Um which is awesome yeah so um yeah, that's. It's really to spend a whirlwind of different races here and there. Um, I never intended to get into this um, but I got bit by that bug, just like everyone else, and now I don't miss a weekend.

Speaker 5:

All right, so we've heard a little bit about each of your stories of how you became runners. Let's get into the Falmouth race and how it went for you. Let's go in the same order, so let's start with Leanne. How did it go for you?

Speaker 7:

So actually it was great. This is my second year running it in person and then, um, I did virtual in 2021 and 2022, but it went well. I um, like I mentioned before, I am a Galloway runner and I went into this race going. First of all, last year I had no idea that there was Hills, um, three and a half miles of hills, half a race. They're called rolling hills, but really it's just like death hills, and so last year they knocked me out my pace. I mean, I finished, but it was barely so. This year I said as long as I can do it, I just want to beat my time, even if it's a minute faster than last year. And wouldn't you know it, I beat my time by nine minutes and seven seconds.

Speaker 5:

I was so happy.

Speaker 7:

I paced myself on the hills, it was great, but it was so much fun. And the weather was like cloudy, it was a little bit nice, it wasn't like super sweaty, but it was so much fun. I ran for a charity New England Hemophilia Association and we ran, as you know, a team, so it was so much fun, so much fun.

Speaker 1:

Was it a PR at this distance Leanne?

Speaker 7:

It was.

Speaker 5:

How about you, Amy? How did it go for you?

Speaker 7:

This was one of the best years I've had running this race, primarily because of the weather and also because I was really prepared for it. So I think this is the seventh time I've run. I've definitely done 21, 22, 23, and now 24 in a row and I had run about three times randomly before. But they used to do this race at 10 am and it would get really hot really quick in August. So it's the last few years. It started at nine, which is better.

Speaker 7:

After running Disney, I feel like they could start earlier, but nine is fine and the weather was great. It was overcast, it really didn't rain although I wouldn't have needed that but it never really broke 70. It was just perfect. We've had years where it's been really hot and there's a stretch after the hills that Leanne was just talking about During the beginning. There's a long stretch with no shade and if it's hot it really can impact your run. So I was really pleased and Alicia is actually my running coach and she's a big part of this journey for me. Alicia is actually my running coach and I have a big. She's a big part of this journey for me. So I was trying to maybe PR my time on this race, but then, leading into it, we kind of didn't think that was a realistic goal, because I've been just really training for endurance and not for speed for a long time, and so we had a goal that was like 125.

Speaker 7:

I ended up coming in seven minutes ahead of that goal, which was great. It was about 25 minutes, so I have a PR, which is okay because it was still so. It was so quicker, so much quicker than I thought I would run it. And I this was the first time I'd done run, walk, run in this race time. I'd done run, walk, run in this race, um. So I was really pleased that I could get close to a PR and not be spent and pace myself in the beginning and get through the hills. I mean it was, it was about as good as it gets. It was really great.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, I would say 20, 25 seconds short of a PR is pretty good, I'm pretty happy with that. How about you, Ashley? I know you talked about running with your dad. Tell us about that.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, so I'll be a broken record as someone who's run this year after year. This was the best weather we all could have ever dreamed of. I swear the gods come down on Falmouth and make it 85 degrees and sunny every single third Sunday in August, um, so this was amazing for everybody. I did not PR, um. My dad is nursing a calf injury so we took it nice and slow, um, but it was great, great day. This race is um very good on their crowd support and their hoses and their squirt guns and their I mean everything. They come out like crazy and the rain not rain. It was just cloudy and misty, but did not deter them for still coming out and soaking us all the way through. Um, so it was a great race. I mean it's it's a little different. They don't do medals or anything, so you just kind of finish and go home, which which is a little different. But yeah, all in all, it was a great day. I would hope every year could ever be like that. So fingers crossed for next time.

Speaker 6:

Outstanding. I'm looking at the course map so this is a point-to-point race. Yes, so describe the course for us, des. Describe the course. I guess it looks like it goes across the Atlantic, goes, follows the Atlantic Ocean.

Speaker 8:

Yeah. So it leaves Woods Hole, massachusetts, which is right near the Martha's Vineyard Ferry, and then goes and guys coming off at any point if you want. It goes really kind of like not inland but a little bit inland for these, first like one and a half, and then you're really shoreline almost the entire way. You go right down shore road which is just the entire beach. Um, you do cut inland a little bit toward the end, but then you come right back out into the shore and I'm telling you they found all the hills that you could possibly find, including the last. At 6.75 it goes straight uphill where all the cameras are.

Speaker 7:

I feel like that's all the race for photographers. Let's just be on this final hill, it'll be fun. Yeah, everyone starts to walk.

Speaker 6:

Those are the best photos.

Speaker 7:

I did not share those on my social media. By the way, it's a spectacularly beautiful class.

Speaker 1:

I that's.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, I was gonna say it sounds scenic, yeah, I mean, it's just the best of cape cod on the shoreline and the hills are at the beginning, so I guess you're supposed to forget about them when you finally get to the water. But the water marker is at the napsa lighthouse and that's probably the prettiest part, I think, of the whole race. But you stay on the water from that point and then up and around a marina and then so the the. The reason it's a seven mile race, which is really a weird number, is that it goes from one bar to another bar it's literally a perfectly good reason From the Captain's Kid in Woods Hole, which is the starting line, is right outside that front door, and then it runs to basically the Casino Wharf in Medford I'm sorry in Falmouth, in the Heights, and it just happens to be a seven mile distance, but it's not based on a kilometer goal or anything like that.

Speaker 6:

So is there a beer at the end of the race?

Speaker 8:

Well, there's a bar at the end of the race.

Speaker 7:

Well, there's a bar at the end of the race. There's not a green beer at the end of the race and hot dogs and hot dogs. There's always some kind of food and it changes year to year a little bit. Um, I wouldn't say people run this race for the post race refreshments. Um, they're definitely. You know it could be, who knows they could be a little bit better, but it's. It's really about everything that happens right before you get to that field. Um, and there's so many people there's just people spectating, there's people at the finish line and there's, and there's 12,000 runners and it was like 11,400 runners wow that, yeah, it's good, it also attracts attention too.

Speaker 8:

I mean, we had Emma Bates, we had Edna Kiplegott, we had Ben Randall, who just won a medal in the Olympics, we had Carissa Galloway.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, carissa was up there, I saw that yeah.

Speaker 8:

Yeah.

Speaker 7:

So it is a cool race. I think I read there was like 75,000 spectators this year. Wow, yeah, and when you're thinking where, if you look on a map, imagine all of those people plus all the runners trying to leave.

Speaker 6:

One way in, one way out. So was there shuttles to go back and forth?

Speaker 8:

Shuttles to the start line yes, but not at the end.

Speaker 7:

So it's funny. So it's seven miles. So on my training plan for this weekend I had to do 11 miles and I was like, how am I going to do this? The race is seven miles. Well, by the time you walk from your car to the shuttle and then the shuttle to the start, and then, once you finish, it's over 13 miles. On Sunday so, I was like check that box.

Speaker 6:

There you go. It's almost like that training run for Wine and Dine weekend when you got to do like 18 or 19 miles in a day and a half. You walk all that anyway.

Speaker 1:

It's good for you, yeah, yeah. If you're training for Dopey or the marathon during Wine and Dine, yeah, that weekend you've got some extra mileage.

Speaker 6:

I usually blow it off. So let's ask when's the next time you're going to be at Disney or Disneyland?

Speaker 7:

Let's start with Leanne. So right now I am training for my first Dopey in January. So you guys will see me in January and my family. We are big Disney families and we like to do like spur to do like spur the moment random. Let's just get a Disney in a few weeks so we may end up there in the fall.

Speaker 1:

Okay, food and wine's coming up, yep.

Speaker 7:

My favorite.

Speaker 6:

Okay, amy.

Speaker 7:

So I will be at a wine and dine. Hopefully you can all say a prayer to the Disney gods for me because, due to scheduling and family stuff, I was signed up for the challenge. I actually need to be in Boston at 11 am on Saturday, which means that I can only fly down to Florida late that afternoon, which means I will miss the expo entirely. So I'm hoping that I can pick up my bid the morning of the half. So let's all keep our fingers crossed and see how that goes. And, assuming I can get a bib, I will be running that half and then I'll be at Dopey, and then I'll be at Princess and actually today with Club Run Disney. I registered for Springtime Surprise Okay, very good, and Disneyland. But I'm doing Disneyland in January, not Halloween and Ashley.

Speaker 8:

I will be at Wine and Dine. I'm doing the Challenge. I'll be at Marathon Weekend. I'm doing Goofy. I will be at Princess for the half and fingers crossed, I will be in California for the second Halloween, but I heard you in california for the second halloween, but I heard you once upon a marathon with amanda and I'm hoping she's not right and it's not going to get shut down so yeah, and you're right.

Speaker 1:

I don't think she was worried about the race getting shut down, but she was worried it wouldn't run where she wanted it.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, I just want it to be what everyone else has got to do. I I've never been so.

Speaker 1:

All right, Wonderful. Hey. Look forward to seeing the three of you in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, Ashley, Amy, Leanne, thanks for joining us Sounds like you had a great time and thanks for being on the spotlight with us. Thank you.

Speaker 7:

Thanks for having us.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so now I know how to pronounce Falmouth. That's good, let's move on. Thanks ladies for joining us for the race report. I appreciate it, we appreciate it. Lake Nona, florida. The Lake Nona Sprint Triathlon Jared did it. Jared, I guess, might still be recovering. I didn't read anything on this triathlon but congratulations to you for even giving it a shot.

Speaker 1:

The Edmonton Marathon Dan did this one. Looks like this was a catered training run for Dan. A foggy start but no smoke. Apparently you're having trouble with smoke up in Canada. Dan's getting ready for Chicago. Another try the Cal Tri Walnut Creek Triathlon in North Garden, virginia.

Speaker 1:

David had a fantastic race day Swimming, biking, running. The swim was longer than he remembered and his arms felt it the next day. Now I can believe that Bike was through a beautiful countryside and the run was on a kind of a tough trail that was hilly but nicely shaded. Overall, a great day. Much respect, david and Jared. Tries are quite a challenge.

Speaker 1:

In West Virginia we were talking about Spartan races earlier. Stephen did a trifecta and Carter did the kids race. At the West Virginia Spartan race we had. A race was canceled in Roswell, georgia, but we also had one in Rachel Nevada, right outside Area 51, the extraterrestrial full moon midnight race. The marathon starts at midnight, the half marathon at 1230 am. Mary and Brandy ran the half. Karen ran the full. Mary said it was fun. The stars and the moon were super bright, which you can kind of imagine in a desert area like that. You get a beautiful view of the night sky, but the hills were not that pleasant. Brandi again did the half and won her age group. Mary was able to kick it into high gear in the last bit of the run to make sure she wasn't passed at the finish line. Karen finished her race within her personal goal time and only saw one alien Well that's good who apparently was named Bob. Ooh, yeah, I don't yeah.

Speaker 2:

Long distance cousin, I don't know. Okay, all right, hearing all these alien-themed runs, I have all these ideas for races. Now here we go. A new alien run, you theme it off of Independence Day and then, instead of a starting gun, you have Will Smith punch an alien and have Bill Pullman be the race announcer and give that famous Independence Day speech before everybody gets into their planes and goes to blow up the spaceship.

Speaker 6:

And what's Randy Quaid doing? What's that? What's Randy Quaid doing?

Speaker 2:

He just shows up at the end and wins the whole damn thing. But if there are any race directors out there, residuals can be sent to greg at riseandrunpodcastcom.

Speaker 1:

Greg. You are all over it, bro. Thank you Finishing that race real quick. Karen says she's happy she did it, but she's one and done on this one.

Speaker 6:

They must have swarmed up the UFOs, because there was a lot of UFO sightings in California this weekend. Supposedly too. I did not notice.

Speaker 2:

Coincidence.

Speaker 1:

I don't think so, I don't know.

Speaker 6:

You've grown to the Twilight Zone.

Speaker 1:

All right, one more race. On the race report Michelle at the Erie Pennsylvania Mayor's Cup 5K.

Speaker 2:

Did this one have aliens as well?

Speaker 1:

I don't think so. Let's see here. Michelle walked it Still took fourth place in her age group. That's cool, beautiful course along Lake Erie's Millionaire's Row, first time doing this. One Definitely wants to do it again because there weren't any aliens. So she's good to go. All right, my friends. Congratulations to all our runners this week. That concludes the race report for episode 152. All right, my friends, it's that time. Now it's time to say goodbye. No, I'm not. That's enough of that.

Speaker 6:

To all our company.

Speaker 2:

That's the most I've heard singing out of Bob in a really long time.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, since we use it as a threat to get reviews.

Speaker 2:

I think, bob, here we go, another new idea for our Patreons. You sing the whole song and we post it to Patreon.

Speaker 1:

You want to keep our Patreons right? All right. All right, all right, my friends, and if you run, you know you are our friend. We cannot overstate how much we appreciate you, how much we enjoy sharing this fun time with you every week, looking forward to seeing you real soon and, and until then, happy running.
